He has been moved to a female maximum security prison as he is legally female but I highly doubt he has any interaction with the mother baby unit. He identified as two-spirit long before trans so he has been LGBTQ for awhile. He is designated a dangerous offender who has been consistently denied parole and who has been violent throughout his incarceration, including towards guards.

In Canada the designation of dangerous offender is rare and reserved for very highly violent cases. There are currently only 280 DO cases in Canadian prisons and from my experience, they are usually very limited in their freedom of movement and interactions within the prison. He is Indigenous but the DO designation overrides the Gladue principle.

It is a sad case all around. He has intellectual delays (maybe fetal alcohol syndrome), was in and out of foster care, used drugs and alcohol as a young child, was sexually and physically abused, and had severe emotional and behavioural issues. He killed a 3 year old when he was 11 and sexually assaulted the 3 month old when he was 14. Once in prison, he self cannabalized and ate part of his own arm. Given the brain damage he has, they do not believe any treatment can make him safe for release and he has been denied parole consistently for 25 years.

I can not find any credible source supporting any connection to the mother-baby unit.

He is a man.

Yes I understand that he/she would be brutally raped every day if they went to a man’s prison because they now have a ‘vagina’ but it is not fair to the women and children in this prison that this person can commit a crime and then decide to have a sex change and be surrounded by the people they are a threat to.

It is not the first time I have heard of a man having a sex change just before being sentenced.

I believe one was sent to a man’s prison recently.

About 15/20 years ago I signed a petition because a transgender person M-F who lived their life as a female was sent to prison for being gay.
As they were sent to a male prison they were gang raped multiple times a day by the prisoners and guards and had regular hospital trips because of it.

I remember thinking it was horrendous and how they should not be in the male prison but now i disagree and it seems some men are doing it purposely after committing a crime so they can be around vulnerable women and to get an easier prison life.

Yes it's disgusting. The guy is a paedophile and rapist and should not be in a women's prison even if in isolation.
But most trans people aren't rapists or paedophiles. Most trans people (apart from the ones dominating SM) just want to get on with their lives quietly like everyone else.
Like most Tories aren't evil. Most Brexiteers aren't racists. Most people on benefits aren't scroungers.

Not all men, whether or not they want you to call them a woman are rapists, quite true.

However, 100% of rapists are men. Whether or not they are 'trans' has nothing to do with it - they should not be in a woman's prison. Ever.

I get that he needs to do his time but I think he needs to be in a maximum security mental health hospital for life rather than prison.

Prison is meant to rehabilitate you.

He can never be rehabilitated or change if he is wired wrong.

Most people call it a sex change when they’ve had the surgery.

Now it’s more PC to say gender reassignment surgery but that’s long winded for on here when everyone knows what I mean.

Prison onset rapid dysphoria, seems to be a lot more common since males picked up they could get sent to a womens prison if they declared their trans identity….

He mutilated his own penis and partially removed it himself.

He isn't a 'typical' trans offender. He was tortured and severely beaten and sexually abused as a young child. He had gender issues as a child and was teased and bullied at school for them and apparently stopped attending at a very young age. The gender thing was even before he went to prison.

The 3 year old died from drowning in a pond and at the time was believed to be accidental. It wasn't until years later in prison that he told someone that he had pushed the child in.

Foster families couldn't manage him as a child due to his violence. He went back and forth between his violent home and foster homes. He isn't pedophile or a typical sexual offender as his offenses were all about violence - not attraction or arousal to children.

He is an extremely disturbed and damaged and violent individual and has been since he was a young child.

The prison he is in has a mother baby unit. There is no way he is anywhere near that unit. He tried to kill a guard and has been shown to have little to no control over his anger and violent outbursts. He has been deemed a DO as they do not believe he can be rehabilitated in any way.

You are very confident of that. 10 years ago you'd have been equally confident that a man with his history wouldn't be housed in a women's prison yet here we are.

What of the female prison guards in the women's prison? Do they have to guard him? How do you feel about them? Think they are safe?

That man has a terribly sad history and was a ruined child well before he did anything. Terrible. But that isn't the fault of the women in the women's prison and it isn't the fault of the women prison officers in the women's prison. His rights and history does not trump theirs. This is just a couldn't be clearer "fuck off we don't give a fuck about women" to some of the most vulnerable people around - women in prison.

That is where they lock up mentally unstable and violent women - and he is one of them as he is legally a woman. There are other mentally unstable and violent women in maximum security prisons too. In my experience, he likely doesn't interact a whole lot directly with other prisoners - but they still yell and talk to each other from cell to cell.

The DO designation means that his sentence is indefinite. In Canada a life sentence is 25 years and so he likely would have pretty much finished his sentence if not for the DO designation. They do not need to release him due to his DO designation if he poses too much of a risk to the public.

I looked up the configuration for the prison and the minimum and medium security inmates are housed separately from the maximum security inmates. Minimum and medium are where the mother-baby programs run and they are housed in either apartment style or small group style units. The maximum security section is a cell style unit and does not have a mother baby program - and that is where Adam / Tara is housed.
