DS has a photoshoot next week for a huge fashion brand. I won’t be able to take a day off because other colleague is already off.

Huge opportunity for him would hate for him to miss out just because of my rubbish job.

They called me today and I had to confirm It within the hour before it was offered to someone else.

would you ask for the day off and most likely
get rejected. Or “pull a sicky”

Definitely pull a sickie as if you ask and they say no you won't be able to pull a sickie as it will be obvious

TregunaMekoides · 11/08/2023 22:18

Pull a sickie

Pull a sicky

BrawnWild · 11/08/2023 22:18

I'd find someone else to take DS. someone can do that, they cant do your job.

Neverknowinglysensible · 11/08/2023 22:19

Pull a sicky. BUT make absolutely sure that nobody ever, not even your mum or bestest friend, knows that the shoot was the same day as your horrendous migraine.

AutumnIsMyFriend · 11/08/2023 22:19

I presume you signed a contract for work, get paid for work or get sick pay? Totally immoral, not to say you’ll be dumping whoever’s left in it when your company clearly has a policy.

I’d get someone else to take DS, unless you are prepared to out your job at risk.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 11/08/2023 22:20

Can you not get someone else to take him?

Subwaysalad1 · 11/08/2023 22:22

Hubby isn’t his biological dad they put the parents name down on his child’s working license from what’s on the birth certificate.

I vote pull a sicky - as a one off, as it's not an everyday event.

toomuchlaundry · 11/08/2023 22:29

How old is DS?

Jap26 · 11/08/2023 22:34

Can you afford to loose your job? If jot tell the truth, don't pull a sickie you will face disciplinary action if caught.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 11/08/2023 22:36

Sickie.
It's one day, hardly the end of the world.

Wynston · 11/08/2023 22:38

And you think employers really give a shit about their staff ? Their just numbers and they would dump the op in a heartbeat .

painochocolate · 11/08/2023 22:41

Could you hand in your notice?

TeaKitten · 11/08/2023 22:41

Could you hand in your notice?

Why?

painochocolate · 11/08/2023 22:42

TeaKitten · 11/08/2023 22:41

Why?

Then it won't matter if she pulls a sickie

Mummyshark2019 · 11/08/2023 22:44

Pull a sickie

SweetPotatoAndPeanutStew · 11/08/2023 22:45

Given that you couldn't take it as leave because another colleague is off already, I guess that will leave them short if you take a sickie...

coodawoodashooda · 11/08/2023 22:46

It depends on your job. If you work in a giant supermarket then pull a sickie, if you are a surgeon then go to work.

WhateverMate · 11/08/2023 22:47

Why no age?

It might be relevant?

Hmmm, I’d be tempted to pull a sickie. But I’d also be wondering how I’d make it work if he gets it and needs me to accompany him or however it works.

WhateverMate · 11/08/2023 22:50

Ahh ok, why can't he have a chaperone of your choice?

Onelifeonly · 11/08/2023 22:51

So what happens if two members of staff are genuinely sick? Presumably they manage somehow, so why can't you ask for a day off too? If there are going to be other days like this involving your ds, you can't keep being 'sick'. Depends on the job, I guess and how much it means to you.
