DS has a photoshoot next week for a huge fashion brand. I won’t be able to take a day off because other colleague is already off.

Huge opportunity for him would hate for him to miss out just because of my rubbish job.

They called me today and I had to confirm It within the hour before it was offered to someone else.

would you ask for the day off and most likely
get rejected. Or “pull a sicky”

PS I'd tell the truth but my boss is very reasonable.

Gazelda · 11/08/2023 22:53

What would be the impact of you not being at work?

I wouldn't do it personally, but I can see why you're considering it.

ilovesooty · 11/08/2023 22:56

Get someone else to take him.

Subwaysalad1 · 11/08/2023 22:57

There is other people in my team that can do my job, but they are more senior now so they wouldn’t have done in it a while.

Could you hand in your notice?

Mostlyoblivious · 11/08/2023 23:06

Contact the agency and tell them your husband is going to be the guardian that day for the shoot

Could you hand in your notice?

How extreme!!!

DiddyHeck · 11/08/2023 23:12

Would a 6 year old really be 'missing out' having his photo repeatedly taken?

If you can't get someone else to take him (which they should definitely allow), I'd speak to your manager.

Amybelle88 · 11/08/2023 23:14

For my child? Sicky all the way. I'm sure work will be fine the day after - there is a lot of melodrama on here 😂🫣

GrandTheftWalrus · 11/08/2023 23:17

Pull a sicky.

reallypuzzledoverthis · 11/08/2023 23:17

Pull a sickie, take your son and enjoy the day, work will still be there the day after

AuntMarch · 11/08/2023 23:20

I'd say I would pull the sicky, I don't get paid if I'm off unless it's long enough for statutory so I wouldn't feel like guilty on that front. But I also think my boss would do anything she could to let me have the day for something that couldn't be rearranged because she is very family focused herself.

midnightblue12 · 11/08/2023 23:38

So your workplace know that you've already tried to get the day off/know about the photo shoot?
Can you flex your hours?

sunflowerdaisyrose · 11/08/2023 23:42

I'd probably say my child is sick and have to take a dependency day rather than I was sick. But I'd definitely take him!

Greenwitchhorse · 11/08/2023 23:56

Call in sick and don't miss this opportunity.

Some of the people on this thread seriously need to get a life...

The world is not going to end if the OP miss a day at work. Unless she is a top heart surgeon or a head of state her workplace will manage.

Coolblur · 12/08/2023 00:40

What are you going to do the next time he's offered a similar opportunity? As he's only 6 presumably it was your idea to sign him up with the agency, so you really should have a plan for how you'll facilitate his attendance when he's offered 'work'.

Somewhereovertherainbowweighapie · 12/08/2023 00:43

Sicky. If you tell the truth the boss has the power to say no.

BlairWaldorfOG · 12/08/2023 00:44

I'd go with sicky. Good luck to your son.

toomuchlaundry · 12/08/2023 00:48

What’s your sickness policy?

Subwaysalad1 · 12/08/2023 00:48

DS loves his modelling it’s probably the only thing that he really enjoys!!

Sicky it is

Im not sure, I’ve never had a day off though

Cowlover89 · 12/08/2023 00:52

Pull a sicky

sunglassesonthetable · 12/08/2023 01:52

I'd take my son as one off.

But I think you should speak to the agency about other people being able to act as guardian for him in the future just so you don't get into this situation again. It'll give you more leeway to say yes to job offers for him.

NoLikeyNoLightey · 12/08/2023 02:14

This is MN where you can only take a sick day if you've got no heartbeat

MidnightMeltdown · 12/08/2023 02:21

Depends on how flexible your job is. Personally, I'd start early and then do a few hours in the evening so that I could take time out during the day. Or maybe work late the night before to get my work done in advance. I definitely wouldn't lie and then go out somewhere.
