and to be fucking pissed off that taxpayers money will be used to 'compensate' this pond life.

Do not believe for one minute that they are all completely innocent people picked up at random by the security forces.

Feel that it they had even the slightest inclination to repeat 9/11 or 7/7 they deserve a good slapping and more. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you .

Rant over. Am feeling highly irritated today so bring it on!!

suspects??? surely you should be sure before any punishment is given!!!

how ridiculous....and torture??

nancydrewrocks · 07/07/2010 10:43

YABVU

gorionine · 07/07/2010 10:43

You are being extreemly U

A suspect is not necessarely guilty.

Not that it matters really as I am against torture full stop!

NotQuiteCockney · 07/07/2010 10:44

And as long as they're not all completely innocent people, then torturing them is ok?

Lionstar · 07/07/2010 10:44

"Talk about biting the hand that feeds you"

What does this mean???

YABVVU

TrillianAstra · 07/07/2010 10:45

YABU.

The key word here is 'suspects'.

Callisto · 07/07/2010 10:46

So lowering ourselves to the level of 'pondlife' is acceptable in your eyes? We are an allegedly civilised society. Torture is not acceptable within our society. Also these people are suspects, ie they have not been convicted of any wrong doing.

bran · 07/07/2010 10:47

I'm not completely innocent, I have occasionally broken the speed limit and only last month my DD dropped a bit of litter and it blew away before I could pick it up and I didn't bother to chase it. I'm also foreign. You'd better get on with the torture quick because there's no knowing what else I might be capable of.

pagwatch · 07/07/2010 10:47

You are being very stupid actually. But I think you know that and are having a little attention seeking hissy fit.

Go sit on the step and calm down. We can talk again when you have something sensible to say.

GypsyMoth · 07/07/2010 10:48

have you had family/friends directly affected by terrorists?? not that it makes much difference, but may explain your train of thought here a little more.

porcamiseria · 07/07/2010 10:48

yeah waterboard all dodgy muslims I say!!!!

come on bigmomma!!!! have you though this through!!!

though I fully agreee they should be deported the fuck out when guilty. That hook hand fella took the piss big time

MrsGravy · 07/07/2010 10:50

You should care. The government being able to detain and torture suspects is the thin end of the wedge. It undermines the whole concept of justice in our society - innocent until proven guilty. How long before other types of suspects are allowed to be detained for years without being charged or proven to be guilty of anything?

Thistledew · 07/07/2010 10:50

If the security services had enough evidence to be sure of their guilt, they would not have to torture them. If they cannot be that sure, they cannot be sure that the person is not innocent.

How many innocent people could you justify torturing in order to catch the few who are not innocent? Have you any idea what being tortured does to people? It is something that is designed to completely destroy the human spirit, and the effects never ever leave you. You might as well say that anyone suspected of terrorism should just be killed. In some ways it would be more humane.

Callisto · 07/07/2010 10:51

"That hook hand fella"

jeee · 07/07/2010 10:52

It is irrelevant whether they are proven terrorists, or terror suspects. Torture is illegal - and perhaps just as crucially, ineffective. Torture can never be justified.

Callisto · 07/07/2010 10:53

I think the torture is 'justified' on the grounds that the security forces are attempting to stop further terrorist attacks, rather than prove guilt.

loopyloops · 07/07/2010 10:54

YABVVU. In fact, YAB an idiot.

TheMysticMasseuse · 07/07/2010 10:54

Are you for real? Because if you are, YAB so VVVVVVVU it's not even funny. It's actually rather sickening.

Have you ever heard of innocent until proven guilty?

And even if proven guilty....where do you draw the line at a "torturable" offence?

Once you start eroding "some people"'s human rights, you have started eroding your own, as well. Next thing you know you live in a totalitarian, police-run State.

DuelingFanjo · 07/07/2010 10:55

you think it's OK to torture people? - nice.

EricNorthmansmistress · 07/07/2010 10:57

BigMomma, if she's the same BigMomma, posted a racist and Islamophobic thread a while back under a name change - then 'came out' as BigMomma and declared she was not ashamed of her views.

I don't have a spreadsheet - I just tend to take notice of racists. So yes, I think BigMomma is for real.

Thistledew · 07/07/2010 10:58

the reality of torture

LynetteScavo · 07/07/2010 10:59

YAB totally U.

I'm not going to entertain you with an argument, but will just say if you think torture is acceptable, then you are a twat.

TheMysticMasseuse · 07/07/2010 10:59

I suggest you familiarise yourself with what happened in latin America in the 70's and 80's. Argentina and Chile, for example. Educated, civilised societies whcih descended into horror in the space of a few years.

If political reportage is not your thing, you could try reading Louis De bernieres latin american trilogy.

Then please, by all means, come back to talk about torture.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 07/07/2010 10:59

YABU - the security forces broke the rules. Therefore we have to pat compensation. We need to make sure our security forces do not break our rules.
