to think this blogger & netmums user is wrong about MN?

Not sure if any of you have seen this blogpost here?

Commenting on Justine at the cybermummy event and also more generally about how Mumsnet it as a collective. As a young (ish) parent I like the fact MN don't feel the need to have a special section for younger mothers, I don't think there are many parenting dilemmas that are age specific!

OP posts:
star84 · 24/08/2010 11:36

Jesus, so very childish. We're all mothers at the end of the day, does that not count for anything?

Who gives a toss who said what, or what chat site we're on, or who shops where?

Becoming a mum has opened my eyes to some of the bitchiest, high-horsed, smugiest comments I've evenr heard.

I'm off, I won't let the door hit my arse on the way out :)

AbsOfCroissant · 24/08/2010 11:57

I fulfil 2 of the 5 criteria for MNers apparently. I like it because it's funny, I get to argue with people and have hissy fits, all within the safe confines of MN

But, I can see how it can be a bit off-putting for a scared, daunted 16 y/o.

I also tire of all the quiches and a*se licking on here

cornsillky · 24/08/2010 12:04

It's not that schoolgirl poster who turned out to be her own mum is it? Confused

cupcakesandbunting · 24/08/2010 12:09

The arse-licking can get a bit tiresome, Abs. I mean, the posts on here wrt Justine's paronising comments (sorry Justine ;)) are then disclaimered by "but of course you didn't mean it like that, Justine. What the...? I'm very happy that Justine and Carrie have given us MN but I'm not going to agree with everything they say. Surely that would go against the MN ethos?

What is this, Cornsilky? Do tell and link to any related information. Grin

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 24/08/2010 13:37

quiches? Have I missed something?

mumbar · 24/08/2010 13:40

cupcakes you make a very good point. I too look at nm local boards as lots of info about free activities etc.

With regards to Justine - Ive never actually read anything from her (or heard of her Blush)I purely look at threads or ask a question if I need too.

I'd never heard of Boden (still don't actually know wht it is) and too have a George, Cherokee dressed ds Grin

I do like the fairly noncensored threads that appear on mn - altho it can have its downside - and only get involved in things I'm interested in.

I'm lucky that there a quite a few local mners on here.

cupcakesandbunting · 24/08/2010 13:46

I don't know why I read quiches as "cliques"

'Tis a good anagram though! :)

gingercat12 · 24/08/2010 13:47

I have never ever bought / seen any Boden clothes, but otherwise fit the description.

Musmnet is not for the faint-hearted and easily-offended though. Don't know about Netmums at all.

mumbar · 24/08/2010 13:54

the posters are just usually more 'overfriendly'

Ususally 'oh hunni I understand, how awful for you sweetie' type thing.

In all honesty I expect most people have been on both and have stuck to the one with more like minded people - hence the apparent divide.

BibiThree · 24/08/2010 13:55

I'm a working class, 31 year old, married, working mother of three with a degree who is hoping to start a postgrad qualification in the next couple of years. In a lot of ways I fit in with the MN stereotype, but in a lot I don't, our household income doesn't fit, we have no money for an Asda shop let alone a Waitrose one and I have never owned anything from Boden Grin
BUT, MN is a perfect fit for me, I can get honesty (sometimes brutal), advice (sometimes life-saving) and feel like I can post anything on here (give or take a namechange or two).
I bloody love MN.

pagwatch · 24/08/2010 13:55

I am a bit confused thatthe whole thing seems to be about how Justine talked about why MN should be well regarded.

Justine should have stood up and said 'I wouldn't bother. Its shite.. A bunch of foul mouthed haridans' then this whole thing would never have happened.
Bloody Justine

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 24/08/2010 13:57

Are they Waitrose quiches though? Because they do some lovely ones. Although I've never been keen on spinach and ricotta - even Waitrose spinach and ricotta quiche seems a bit watery to me. Quiche needs a good, flavoursome cheese. Imo.

Am low-carbing right now so pastry is out, unfortunately.

cupcakesandbunting · 24/08/2010 14:06

I have a recipe for a pastry-less quiche, if you're interested. Seems as futile as low-alcohol wine, which is like taking a fart to a shit fight, to be perfectly honest.

pagwatch · 24/08/2010 14:14

And carob. What is the point?
If it doesn't look taste or smell like chocolate then it isn't a chocolate alternative. It is just brown stuff in a chocolate shaped bar.
There the comparison ends

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 24/08/2010 14:19

I agree cupcakes. There's one in the Idiot's diet cookbook that uses almonds or something as a base, but that's just daft.

A good tortilla should do the trick.

Indeed, pag. Carob is bollocks. I have allowed myself teeny, tiny squares of very good dark chocolate here and there, as an alternative to sweetening an post-dinner espresso (eaten alongside rather than dipped).

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 24/08/2010 14:22

See what happens when you start being a smartarse?

You know what I was trying to achieve the the *s there, don't you.

cupcakesandbunting · 24/08/2010 14:25

Forgot about carob. It is truly Satan's work.

Same goes for all Quorn (and other brands!) meat substitute product. If you're a veggie, great! Eat your tofu/lentils. Don't eat that dreadful, tasteless food formica.

Manda25 · 24/08/2010 14:27

I was introduced to NM's and discovered MN's a month or so later after reading a thread about it on NM's (I still go on both).

MN'ers are witty, intelligent, articulate, to the point, harsh but give some damn good advice....

NM'ers are flowery, nice, agreeable, kind but rubbish at giving advice.

I like my advice with out the cotton wool. I want to see any problems I have from all different perspectives not have everyone agree with my point of view.

The only thing I would say is that so many posters are very vulnerable / fragile and i think and have seen posters on MN scare these people off ....and these are the very people who need MN over NM any day of the week.

pagwatch · 24/08/2010 14:31

DS1 describes carob as chocolate without the joy.
Grin

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 24/08/2010 14:32

Manda I agree. I've seen a couple of people who really could do with some proper advice as opposed to hugz being scared off.

My fingers feel all yeuch after typing the h word. [shudder]

BonniePrinceBilly · 24/08/2010 14:43

pmsl@ taking a fart to a shit fight! Grin

Cartoose · 24/08/2010 14:45

What cupcakesandbunting said

Cartoose · 24/08/2010 14:46

Um ... her first long post

Anniegetyourgun · 24/08/2010 14:50

Excuse me, but "quiches" is NOT an anagram for "cliques".

sungirltan · 24/08/2010 15:03

can i just draw attention to the fact that you are complaining that she has rejected mn whilst merrily slagging off nm.

i find this quite amusing.
