AIBU to think the Goverment is

Bang out of order to be planning on changing the law on redundancy packages and striking rules, just so they can force through their new cuts.

Labour tried to do it the right way, by getting the Unions to agree, and they didn't. So the Conservaties think Fuck you we will simply do it the underhanded way.

Just like reducing the tax credits to £23k a year despite telling us 40k.

regret my Tory vote now....

Democracy...... What Democracy Mr Cameroon. Goverment loses in court, so you change the law instead.

You Sir quite frankly Stink!

YABU. The government has to protect itself against unions holding the country to ransom to protect their pay rises and perks.

Blackness · 05/07/2010 08:35

Dont disagree with you one bit goodnight, but do it the right way, like every single other person has to...

What is the point of courts if as soon as they rule against the Goverment they simply change the law to circumvent the ruling...

I am sorry but that is jst plain sneaky

FFS - this is just so typical. I hope this government doesn't last

HowAnnoying · 05/07/2010 09:03

I'm no tory, but don't see anything wrong with redundancy rules to be the same for private and public. Why should a civil servant be entitled to better redundancy package than a private sector worker?

mommmmyof2 · 05/07/2010 09:18

I am no Tory, this does not shock me one little bit! and It makes me laugh really when people say they trust politicians, they all lie but what i always think of is who's lies will do the most damage!
After this sham of a vote this year i don't really no why i bothered

I was made redundant in the Private sector, I thought my payout was reasonable (however I did recieve slightly more than the standard as it was based on US redundancy rules as it was a US company). I've read some public sector redundancies have been 6 years pay. That's ridiculous (although this is probably an exception rather than the rule). And some Private companies make redundancies to save themselves from going under, if they had to pay out huge sums they might still go under anyway.
Anyway I didn't vote Tory so aint my fault! They were banging on about the need for cuts straight away before the election, why are people so suprised??

SpringHeeledJack · 05/07/2010 10:22

it's not the cuts per se- it's the unfairness of cutting redundancy payments first; then putting a load of people out of work; then (presumably) continuing to refer to them as "dole scroungers"

Sorry, no-one deserves 6 years pay when made redundant, however long they have worked at the council. A maximum of 6 months or so seems generous to me. 6 months is long enough for most people to get back into work - and there is a lot of extra money and support focussed on help schemes for those who have been out of work for more than 6 months.

If the unions refuse to acknowledge the blatantly obvious, and insist on campaigning against every cut, then they fully deserve to be emasculated.

Riven Here it is in a story by the BBC

pointydog · 05/07/2010 10:35

The basic rules of being a Tory still apply.

  • private sector good, public sector bad
  • power of the individual, no collective responsibility
  • smash those lefty, insidious, devious 'groupings' which are sucking us dry (paranoia, yes)

I admit it is slightly disappointing that Dem Libs are having no impact on the destructive, scare-mongering tories, but there you are.

pointydog · 05/07/2010 10:36

You see? People will now hold up the '6 years' redundancy thing as if it is some sort of Truth and use it to beat everyone down in the Bad Public Sector.

You should direct your anger towards the government who got us into this mess and not the one who is getting us out of it.

As for whether or not the proposals are reasonable, I would need a better understanding of how redundancy pay is calculated now, and what the proposed changes are.

I have seen a few news articles this morning quoting that some civil servants are entitled to six years of salary as a redundancy payment. That is clearly outrageous and should be stopped. But, I assume this is a rare scenario. Anything more than about six months of salary seems excessive to me.

SpringHeeledJack · 05/07/2010 10:38

what pointydog said

...there is a "6 year" bit in there Riven- bu you have to look for it
