to be scared of 2012?

fartblossom · 01/07/2010 22:24

Something big is meant to happen in the year 2012 and I get quite worried about it. Is the world really going to end? Or is it all just a load of tosh just getting us to have faith in God?

When I think about it or read about it I do get really scared. I know that one day the world will end, I also know that one day I will die, but I like to think that both of these will be quite a way off. 2012 is only in 2 years. Is that really how long we all have left?

Please someone tell me thats its not going to happen and tell me why so I can remember this next time I read or hear something about 2012.

Thanks

for goodness sake get a grip

i have lived through about four 'end of the world' predictions and i'm only 40.

you get used to them

funnysinthegarden · 01/07/2010 22:26

The only thing which is going to happen in 2012 AFAIK is the Olympics.

Have you been reading Nostradamus?

gerontius · 01/07/2010 22:26

No, nothing is going to happen in 2012.

fartblossom · 01/07/2010 22:28

Thanks for the slap, I feel better now.

Ive not known of any other 'end of the world' predictions.

The world was going to end in at the end of the millenium. Oddly it didn't. End of the world stuff is a load of old bollocks, touted by bollockmongers.

HumphreyCobbler · 01/07/2010 22:34

The world has been going to end lots and lots of times. You should do some research and find out about all of them, it could really help your anxiety.

I actually thought this was going to be about the Olympics.

MiladyDeScorchio · 01/07/2010 22:34

You weren't around in 2000?

Well maybe not Armageddon but nasty things were supposed to have happened... and then in 2001 and September the 11th. I put my house on the market the day before that and I can tell you that the world came to a standstill for a while.

at bollockmongers.

And film makers.

CheerfulYank · 01/07/2010 22:35

I flipped out about this during my hysteric anxiety stage when I was about 7 months pregnant. I did an embarrassing amount of some research, and from what I can tell absolutely nothing's going to happen. It'll all be just fine.

fartblossom · 01/07/2010 22:38

Thanks.

I didnt realise the world was going to end in 2000. I just thought the computers were all going to crash and no-one would have any money in the bank. Although I never really believed that.

Ive just been reading something about it, but your all probably right I will wake up 1st Jan 2013 with a big smile on my face.

I feel much better now.

MiladyDeScorchio · 01/07/2010 22:42

I will probably be waking up on 1st Jan 2013 with the usual crashing hangover

Glad you feel better

fartblossom · 01/07/2010 22:43

hahaha at MiladyDeScorchio

funnysinthegarden · 01/07/2010 22:43

"probably right" seriously we are definitely right. Nothing is going to happen in 2012. Nothing anyway that anyone can predict

CheerfulYank · 01/07/2010 22:45

I will be sure to wake up with a crashing hangover. On the off off off off off off chance it is the end, I'm certainly not going out sober!

NonnoMum · 01/07/2010 22:45

I spent 1984 being very scared.

But then i grew up.

And now we've got 2012 to look forward to (register your interest for tickets everyone - see you at the Gymnastics!).

fartblossom · 01/07/2010 22:49

Thanks and now Im going to apologise about creating such a stupid thread. Sorry everyone. Have some 's on me

BelleDameSansMerci · 01/07/2010 22:53

There have been loads of "end of the world" predictions. I can remember about four or five. These have been happening for hundreds, probably thousands, of years.

Don't spend the next 18 months worrying! Of course, if you really believe it will end you could spend the next year and a half really, really going for it; live your life to the full and do all the things you've ever wanted to.

MandyMcFly · 01/07/2010 23:25

Oh gosh...I was like this too!
Same as cheerfulyank I was around 7 months pregnant and could not bring myself away from all the theories on the internet. I remember crying on the phone to my mum one night saying how scared I was and that I couldn't cope!
But as the hormones wore off I did more practical research and as far as I can see there is nothing to worry about (and I am the biggest worrier ever - seriously). I was unreasonably freaked out though so I know what you mean, I was practically starting to stock up on canned goods

Housemum · 01/07/2010 23:27

The world won't end in 2012. But just in case it does I have now ordered the new kitchen for this year rather than waiting

LilQueenie · 02/07/2010 21:08

Dont worry. Its based on the fact that the ancient mayan calander ends in 2012 and the only change expected is that we all become more aware spiritually. Its actually supposed to be a good thing.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 02/07/2010 21:43

You're not the only one who has fears like this. I knew someone who was terribly afraid of dying and the world ending and stuff like that.

My view about 2012 (and any and all other Predictions of Doom) is - if it's not true, you will spend half your life worried and not enjoy yourself because you're upset and anxious about things that never end up happening and if it is true, there's nothing at all you can do about it, so why waste the time you do have being anxious about something you cannot prevent instead of enjoying life?

CheerfulYank · 03/07/2010 18:42

Me too, mandy. My dad was trying his best to be patient with me, but inside he was thinking "Oh for the love of God you have got to be kidding me." In retrospect it's ridiculous, but at the time I was terrified.

SwansEatQuince · 03/07/2010 18:45

It is not going to happen but if it did, you would not know.

Tee2072 · 03/07/2010 19:38

2012 will not be the end of the world.

2012 will be, however, the 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking.

Titanic - Built in Belfast
