to be scared of 2012?

Something big is meant to happen in the year 2012 and I get quite worried about it. Is the world really going to end? Or is it all just a load of tosh just getting us to have faith in God?

When I think about it or read about it I do get really scared. I know that one day the world will end, I also know that one day I will die, but I like to think that both of these will be quite a way off. 2012 is only in 2 years. Is that really how long we all have left?

Please someone tell me thats its not going to happen and tell me why so I can remember this next time I read or hear something about 2012.

Thanks

oh tuff up, op. Of course the world will not end in 2012

tutusare4 · 03/07/2010 21:02

I also did an embarrasing amount of research on this, and have found that the people who genuinely believe that this will happen, also believe that:

The Queen is a shape-shifting lizard

Paul McCartney is dead

The Rolling Stones are the Mafia

The USA government are trying to sterilise huge areas of the worlds population by spraying them with chemicals from the arse-end of an aeroplane

The world is going to end in 1984 (God Bless you Mother Shipton, you were wrong)

The world is going to end in 2000 - that didn't happen, soooo....

...The world is going to end in 2003 - that didn't happen either, sooo.....

....The world is going to end in 2008 - nope, wrong again.....

2012? - grasping at straws anyone? See a pattern emerging?

And even if it is the end of the world, we'll all be dead, so we won't care

Yes, what LilQueenie said - we are all slowly becoming more spiritually aware. Or some such. What I have heard about it from the spiritual/holistic health kind of area (my mum is into reiki, dowsing, etc) it's a good thing and nothing to be frightened of. It's not that the world is ending or some kind of apocalypse is happening, it just represents a general shift in the way of thinking for a lot of people.

Something like that anyway. I don't profess to be any kind of expert.

Just throwing in my tuppence Myans
I don't belive it either but did you know they played a football type game with a human head!

elvislives · 03/07/2010 21:37

As a teen I decided not to have children, because the world was going to end in [select date]. Actually 1997 rings a bell. Or was it 1992?

Obviously it didn't and by then I'd had 4.

BessieBoots · 03/07/2010 21:41

I am only 27 and I've lived through a shocking amount of these predictions. Don't worry!

DastardlyandSmugly · 03/07/2010 21:51

2012 will see the launch of the new European regulatory regime for insurance companies. It's called Solvency II and will completely change the way insurance companies operate.

It's huge but also unbelieveably boring...

Lifegoeson · 04/07/2010 02:01

FB - Thank god I'm not the only hysterical one! I have read about this too, and they made a LOT of points about what had happened so far... Freaky...

But hey, what can we do?! - Nowt! Live, love and attempt to dry the world of wine in our woe as we go! - I really would hate any to go to waste!

gobsmackedetal · 04/07/2010 05:38

2012 might be the end of the efw good things left in britain. We;ll be in so much debt after this that I don't want to think about it. But no, no world ending, I don't think

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/07/2010 06:36

2012? My DD will turn 11, end of the world? Unlikely. I remember living in Bangkok at the height of the bird flu scare. We had a bird flu cupboard full of totally impractical foodstuff like olives and tuna. We hadn't even considered water.

Butterpie · 04/07/2010 06:41

Didn't the Mormons or somebody think it was 1992?

coolma · 04/07/2010 07:25

The only thing I'm scared of in 2012 is that there is more sodding football. The european something or other. I coldn't believe they were advertisig it on tv the other day. I will probably spend the year in a non eurpean country - necker is tempting

claig · 04/07/2010 07:28

Didn't Gordon Brown say that "we only have 50 days left to save the planet"?

2012 is a significant date in the Mayan calendar but has been misinterpreted by doomsayers who want to frighten people that the end of the world is nigh.

Bird flu scares, swine flu scares and global warming scares are similar phenomena.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 04/07/2010 07:28

Don't worry, John Cusack will save us all in a massive Russian plane.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/07/2010 08:26

What a lovely idea, me, John Cusack and olives. Throw Adrian Chiles in and it would be perfect.

Dlamis · 04/07/2010 08:28

It may end, it may not, who knows, there's nothing you can do about it anyway so no point in worrying about it. Just get on and enjoy life.

peppapighastakenovermylife · 04/07/2010 09:19

I turn 30 in 2012 - now that is scary

PfftTheMagicDragon · 04/07/2010 09:45

I don't think Adrian Chiles was in the film. If he was he probably died 3 minutes in. I imagine he would be eaten by a genetically engineered meerkat or something equally manly.

Look, I have reserved the seat next to Mr Cusack on the mahoosive plane, OK?

TheBossofMe · 04/07/2010 09:50

My 40th

And the Olympics.

AFAIK, those are the two biggest things going on it 2012
