To think Glasto and other festivals like it are for kids?

and to find late 30-somethings and 40-somethings who go to them (and are not press) a bit sad?

I get to play at a lot of festivals all over Europe. I'm not a great fan of them. There are some real gems which are ideal for families.

I've played at Glastonbury a few times, and I can't say I enjoyed the colossal[ness] of it all, along with the sheers herds of smelly people [sheeple] leaving their filth and rubbish all over the place.

There are plenty of smaller festivals (some of them quite secret and tucked away) such as Firegathering, Glyndebourne Festival etc. going on which are just great for the little ones, and of course if the weather is being kind.

I think some of the older performers are there trying to kid themselves about how youthful they are. To me they are just embarrassing.

Perhaps it's because I went camping when I was at school that I never felt the desire to go to any festivals, and perhaps because I'm not a smoker, nor drug user, nor heavy drinker, and the whole 'muddy field' etc holds zero interest.

I suppose if I was staying in a B+B nearby, I might just consider one, but even 30 years ago I didn't have any inclination, and neither did work colleagues or before that, those I studied with.

It gets so much hype from the media because for them it is probably relatively cheap entertainment to fill hours of output without having to do much more than arrange a few presenters don't get legless before they are on radio/TV (and there may be a few who are suffering the effects that manage to wing it, even getting to do the same thing the following year).

As for the possibility of being jealous, no, I can think of dozens of better ways to use the money it would cost to go to Glastonbury and would really need to be paid to attend as I'd consider it a bit of a chore.

Chip, our family live on the cliffs above Ballineska beach (the one where they filmed Saving Private Ryan) so that's where we go. Spent all my childhood summer holidays there - had lovely long, hot, hippy summer holidays being a free range child there.

We now spend most of our holidays at White Gap and Raven Point (much better for dog walking than Ballinesker and Curracloe).

The beaches are beautiful and used to be a well kept secret until a few years ago - now they are heaving in the tourist season though.

should've read Ballinesker.
