and to find late 30-somethings and 40-somethings who go to them (and are not press) a bit sad?

Never mind too old to attend, at 39 I'm too old to cope with watching it on the telly.

Got so angry with that self indulgent tosser Damon Albarn inflicting his tedious experimental 'music' on people who had hoped to be singing in unison along to U2 that I worked myself up into a tizz and couldn't fall asleep.

He'll get what's coming to him.

Damon Albarn is such a bore isn't he? Humourless really hard-to-like bloke.

I don't thing age is a reason to avoid Glastonbury. It's the whole corporateness of it that I'd find really off-putting. And it's too big. And I suspect there's a high proportion of people who go because it's something you do but aren't really bothered about the music.

BoneyBackJefferson · 26/06/2010 17:58

I'd travelled the world before I was 25, it's sad that according to some on here I shouldn't be allowed in to a music festival because I didn't do go to them before that age.

funnysinthegarden · 26/06/2010 18:07

Expat you are right. Still going to a festival this year, just coming home at the end of the noches.

LadyBiscuit · 26/06/2010 18:10

Diss Damon at your peril He's a bloody genius

southeastastra · 26/06/2010 18:13

daily mail said glastonbury was the middle class festival seems true and why were people wearing their designer welly boots. it's boiling hot

ivykaty44 · 26/06/2010 18:18

I was invited to go when I was 32 and I jumped at the chance - though this included bbc loos and a back stage pass

i was there from 3pm on the Saturday until around 9am the Sunday mornign.

i really enjoyed myself and certianly didn't feel old - lots of people there in there 30 & 40's

I did think it was odd to take childrenm - each to their own but they would have curtailed my freedom!

bintofbohemia · 26/06/2010 18:26

YABU - Glasto isn't what it was but it's still great. Not been for years though due to not being minted/having superfast broadband to buy tickets. Big Chill is also fabulous and totally not just for kids.

BertieBotts · 26/06/2010 18:34

I'm 22 and have never been to a festival (various reasons... money and then in a crap controlling relationship from 18, and then babies...) I would love to go to one. If I'm too old I don't really give a fig TBH! I WILL be going to a festival one day...

PfftTheMagicDragon · 26/06/2010 18:54

well Morris, if you will sing along to U2 then you deserve a lot worse than old Damon. Mr Albarn is far more talented and far less annoying that that twatwaffle Bono.

bibbitybobbityhat · 26/06/2010 19:10

Have to agree that Damon is pointlessly grumpy. Silly sod. Love his music though.

bintofbohemia · 26/06/2010 19:29

twatwaffle

LilQueenie · 26/06/2010 20:33

YABU there are plenty bands that are way older than most of us here playing live so I dont see why it is for just kids. Never has been never will be.

lisianthus · 26/06/2010 20:41

YABU, particularly as you get all sorts of music there, including "oldies but goodies" such as Suzanne Vega and Joan Baez.

But YANBU for saying so, and please keep on saying so and convince as many people as you can of this as it will make it a bit easier for me to get tickets next year. [missed out on tickets and cheesed off emoticon]

Snobear4000 · 26/06/2010 20:49

Music festivals are for people who like to see music, regardless of sex, race, religion and yes, age. I frequent many festivals and must say that the hard rock and heavy metal ones have a very wide age range represented.

What sort of lifeless stiff would honestly suggest that after age thirty a person should stop going to concerts? What a narrow mind, and a sad outlook.

Stay at home listening to Radio 4 and making scones or whatever it is you do, that's fine. But don't disparage others who like to go out and have a bit of fun during the summer.

Limara · 26/06/2010 20:55

I'm 42 and really up for Glastonbury AND Download! I've been to Phoenix Festival, Reading and Virgin so far but I can't really remember it properly

At my age, I like my home comforts and I'd like to go in to the Festival and retreat to a hotel room but that's is too expensive.

I don't care what people think of me anymore. If people want to go to a festival and experience it, then they should at any age-who bloody said it's for the young un's?

lefroglet · 26/06/2010 21:01

I can hear the festival going on now as I live really close. I could hear the gorillaz whilst I was sitting in bed last night and it sounded terrible IMO - lots of repetitive talking and beats that just thumped away. But then I don't like Gorillaz, and REALLY don't like Muse so this evening is going to be a bit rubbish. That is the nature of music though - if everyone liked the same thing it would get a bit boring.

OrmRenewed · 27/06/2010 07:17

Bugger me! You can't compare U2 and Gorillaz. The sainted Bono cancelling because of a damaged tootsie and the wonderful Gorillaz stepping in was the one thing that made me wish I had a ticket!

curryfreak · 27/06/2010 08:59

God,- i wish i was there last night, manky toilets and all. Pet Shop boy blew me away...

curryfreak · 27/06/2010 08:59

Oh. and i and dh are 40somethings, so no yabu!

brimfull · 27/06/2010 09:16

yanbu

the very fact that people harp on about how they're still doing festivals at their age ...
..there's life in the old dog
..music isn't just for the young

parp!!

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 27/06/2010 09:30

I have no intention of only ever behaving appropriatly for my age, whatever age I am.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 27/06/2010 09:31

Beats are MEANT to thump away.

mummylin2495 · 27/06/2010 09:50

If people of any age want to go to a festival why shouldnt they ? I would only go if i could take my bed but i dont think others who are older are sad,i say good for them.

lefroglet · 27/06/2010 11:14

I know they are meant to thump away TheCoalitionNeedsYou but the Gorillaz have been the most bassy (is that a word? maybe not) it just sounded so boring, whereas Muse didn't. It is a dfferent style of music, so that was probably it. Muse must have really got the crowd going as I didn't hear them cheering Friday night, but could last night. I am annoyed at everything though, so hot and tired. If I was at the festival it would be a different matter and I'm sure I would be tapping along to the beat!
