To think Glasto and other festivals like it are for kids?

and to find late 30-somethings and 40-somethings who go to them (and are not press) a bit sad?

OP posts:
LostArtofKeepingASecret · 25/06/2010 23:32

I'm loving glasto. When did I start liking gorillaz?
I wish I was there. And 20 years younger

I'm trying to imagine what its like back stage with Mark E Smith, Lou Reed and Shawn Ryder!

ninah · 25/06/2010 23:35

I dunno, I think the potential for enjoying festivals actually increases as you get older
you can hold your drink, wear comfy shoes, take all the home comforts, not care about your image and STILL get the music, the people, the sense of occasion
Glasto over Glyndebourne every time

janeite · 25/06/2010 23:35

Not tragic - it's sounding even more boring now though. Bunch of old blokes being self-indulgent - yawn.

ThatVikRinA22 · 25/06/2010 23:36

DH just said the day you dont give a shit about how old you are is the day you should be there. i agree!

Poshwellies · 25/06/2010 23:41

Ninah, festivals are all about being filthy (mud ahem) ,the music and booze and/or drugs.

Or am I wrong?

ThatVikRinA22 · 25/06/2010 23:49

i take my hat off to damon albarn. Dennis hopper. lou reed. snoop dog. bobby womack. mark e smith. shaun ryder. plus the members of the clash, the verve and Jamie Hewlett. creative little bod isnt he.

posh - you can keep the drugs. id just go for the music! dont like mud or drugs much!

im gonna go. one year in the not too distant future and all those who think its for kids can go boil ya heads! ill have a good time and thats all that matters!

cornsilk5793 · 25/06/2010 23:50

I just wish that H from Steps had been invited

Poshwellies · 26/06/2010 00:01

vicar

I'm too old for drugs (been there etc), I'm very jealous of the gorillaz set,it was ace!

Anyway enjoy Glasto folks....enjoy the M5/A303 on the way home

ninah · 26/06/2010 00:08

posh you are not wrong
at my age I will settle for a very content dirty lol

LostArtofKeepingASecret · 26/06/2010 00:11

cornsilk - now that would have made it a night to remember

Poshwellies · 26/06/2010 00:16

*high fives ninah ...in a 34 yr old stylee

Comfy shoes? gah!

SolidGoldBrass · 26/06/2010 00:24

oh FFS how depressing - the idea that once you pass your 25th birthday all that's left for you is a life of sitting watching television when you're not knocking yourself out with the excitement of a trip to IKEA. With your monogamous partner. Wearing matching jumpers.

I would rather fucking die.

GloriaSmut · 26/06/2010 00:51

Christonabike! I'm performing at a festival this summer! Having read the OP's dictat I now realise I should have died at least 20 years ago or at least have the decency to stay home with only an incontinence pad and a nice warm cardigan to keep me company.

cornsilk5793 · 26/06/2010 00:55

Ikea? That is a young person's store.Us oldies know better.

PortiaNovmerriment · 26/06/2010 01:00

I like going to festivals, but only as VIP/guest of the band. Much cleaner portaloos and no queues for the bar

Poshwellies · 26/06/2010 01:01

I'm not past it..just can't be arsed with the Radio One sleekness of glasto.

and that fucking twat ,jo whiley.

lowenergylightbulb · 26/06/2010 08:13

I'd love to go. Every year we watch it and vow to go next year!! My kids are teens now and would bloody love it - but not as much as me and my OH would!!

SixtyFootDoll · 26/06/2010 08:17

at SGB, agree totally.

LadyBiscuit · 26/06/2010 09:17

It's hardly sleek. It may appear that way on telly and there are an awful lot of M&S coolbags around but at least boys who weren't educated at Westminster aren't pretending to be working class (members of the Clash I'm looking at you) any more like they were when I was in my 20s

NomDePlume · 26/06/2010 09:26

not with tickets at over £200 a pop it's not! that's a shitload of dinner money.

PuppyMonkey · 26/06/2010 09:41

Have been to Glastonbury in my 20s, 30s and 40s and enjoyed it (in different ways) each time so yabu. Loads more to the place than just the bands you see on the telly.

But then, I see from your OP that I'm allowed to enjoy it as I am "press" too.

Not that I ever covered it as part of my job, I just went in my free time. Ho hum.

FolornHope · 26/06/2010 14:25

good articel in TImes about festivals by sathnam sanghera.
says their lack of "brown" makes cheltenham feel like the bronx

snort here

PfftTheMagicDragon · 26/06/2010 14:32

You want All Tomorrow's Parties - cool bands, sleep in a bed, eat properly.

EmmaBemma · 26/06/2010 14:36

"oh FFS how depressing - the idea that once you pass your 25th birthday all that's left for you is a life of sitting watching television when you're not knocking yourself out with the excitement of a trip to IKEA. With your monogamous partner. Wearing matching jumpers."

Yeah. Because that's the only other option if you don't want to go to a music festival past 25.

I don't agree with the OP but you sound more ludicrous than she does!

lemonysweet · 26/06/2010 17:00

SGB, dont forget only listening to 'classics' on the radio and getting up at 6am on days where you have nothing to do...

or is that just my idea of old?
