To be annoyed at everyone buggering off early to watch the football

AIBU to be annoyed that because (a) I'm not English and (b) couldn't give a monkeys about a bunch of overpaid prima-donnas kicking a ball about a pitch that I should be made to do over 2 extra hours of work whilst everyone else buggers off to the pub to watch the game?

Apparently they will be "making the time up later" but I have a feeling that there's more chance of me becoming a supermodel than that happening.

Should I just pretend I'm going to watch it anyway even though I've been quite vocal about point (b) above?!

can you be supporting a team playing tomorrow?

islandofsodor · 23/06/2010 14:05

YABU - I'm stuck at work on my own becasue of picking the children up from school. If you want the time off go and watch the match in the pub with the rest of them. Thats what I'd be doing if it wasn't for the kids.

Mingg · 23/06/2010 14:06

YANBU

bran · 23/06/2010 14:07

Well, there's nobody around to know whether you're working or not. [evil grin] Come and chat on here, have a good rootle through the stationery cupboard, booby-trap everybody's chairs or whatever it is that you've had a supressed impulse to do before.

porcamiseria · 23/06/2010 14:10

yabu and a killjoy

its one day!

PickleSarnie · 23/06/2010 14:14

If it wasn't for those unbearable vuvuzelas I'd pretend I was interested and go and watch it. Guess I'm neurotic as well as unreasonable?!

Well I wouldn't go to Spain and moan that the Spanish people were supporting their team, so I think YABU. Just take the same time off yourself.

YABU to be pissed off at other people doing something they enjoy and who aren't doing any harm.

You've chosen not to get into the spirit of it, why not just go along for the crack?

Or would that not give you a warm martyred feeling?

mistletoekisses · 23/06/2010 14:32

YABU.

stop being a killjoy. good on your employers for giving their employees some flexibility on this.

dmo · 23/06/2010 14:32

well i'm a childminder and most parents finish at 2pm today and told me so. but asked (no make that told) me that they will pick child up after the match

PickleSarnie · 23/06/2010 14:36

AgentZigzag, nope, I'm going to sit here grumbling like Victor Meldrew whilst biting off my own nose to spite my face.

Well at least you admit it.

Mind you make the most of reveling in your smugness at their hangovers tomorrow

JacobBlacksBitch · 23/06/2010 14:44

YABU - stop moaning & get on with doing something fun/interesting to you/constructive.

AgentZigzag · 23/06/2010 14:48

No, scrub what I just said and get yourself down the fucking pub!

Go on...NOW

mangoandlime · 23/06/2010 15:01

Harvey Nick's sale.

Eh?!

Memories are made of this, lighten up!

lorelilee · 23/06/2010 15:36

DMO - presumably you will be getting paid the usual rate?

SpiderObsession · 23/06/2010 17:12

Oh sorry, missed the thread. I'd buggered off to watch the England match.

SarfEasticated · 23/06/2010 17:22

I went to the pub too! Life's too short for feeling hard-done-by. I just went for the craic, know nothing of football but like the atmosphere (and the beer!).
