I just can't. Challenging the kids on the Wii on Boxing Day is one thing, but spending a significant amount of time immersing oneself in an imaginary world, and not even in a constructive way as reading a book is [says she, covering arse]. It's so immature. World of Warcraft, ProEvo, all tedious and unattractive time-sucks imo. If DP spent hours doing it, as some men seem to, it would be a dealbreaker (he doesn't play them at all)

Emptyshell have you seen the trailer for Portal 2? Looks fantastic! Gonna be a long agonising wait for it though!

Have to settle for grouping with DP in AoC, and beating him in Blur. Oh and attacking thing in Bayonetta!

emptyshell · 21/06/2010 11:31

Kaloki yeah - there was a load of stuff from E3 on it the other week as well, which led to a good couple of days of my dear husband doing turret impressions. He's managed to pull off naming one of the pieces of software they use at his work Glados - out of all the managers, about three of them got the joke.

mayorquimby · 21/06/2010 11:32

there's a certain irony of this being posted on an internet forum.
hardly the most productive of past-times.

Kaloki · 21/06/2010 11:36

mayorquimby It's quite amusing isn't it? It wasn't that long ago that forums were the preserve of geeks. In fact there are still plenty of people out there who still think forum users are sad and geeky. Shouldn't you all be out there talking to people in real life, and doing something constructive?

YANBU
Computer games are for children, along with reading Harry Potter or watching Dr Who. Reading a HP book to a child, watching Dr Who with them, or playing a computer game with them is fun. Doing any of these things on your own occasionally is a guilty pleasure and fine. Having HP as your favourite novels, or an obsession with Dr Who memorabilia, or playing computer games every night for hours at a time are all just childish.

Thankfully, DH does too much with computers in work time to be bothered by them at home.

fifa, red dead redemption, GTA and pro evo.
brilliant time wasters.
but your free to judge others based on it, I do similar with SATC, Lost, 24, BB, BGT, people who like James Corden, people who like Oprah, people who don't like the Sopranos, people who don't like the wire/30 rock/the office/dexter.
all will be the first agaionst the wall come the revolution.

mayorquimby · 21/06/2010 11:47

oh and I don't trust men who don't like football or play at least one sport.

Rockbird · 21/06/2010 11:51

Greeny, can I quote you any time someone says something miserable? I think what you said just cuts to the chase!

paisleyleaf · 21/06/2010 12:03

yanbu. I find it unattractive too.
But I guess it could be a generational thing.
My brother's place is often much like his teenage bedroom was even though he has a family now.

catinboots · 21/06/2010 12:04

I have no problem with computer games in moderation.

But I do tell DS if he spends too much time on his X-Box he will end up with big thumbs and a small penis.

Morloth · 21/06/2010 12:11

I don't like men who cry a lot. Big event like births/deaths, OK - no problem, other than those I find a man crying deeply unattractive.

So everyone else should feel the same way.

paisleyleaf · 21/06/2010 12:13

....and especially if he's crying because his joystick's broken

When I was very pregnant and had a lot of time to kill DH and I would play Resident Evil 5 (cos its a two player) and it was great fun--wasting time together when I was a whale, it was hot and didnt feel up to much.
Plus we got to kill zombies which was very therapeutic given that I was a whale and hot and therefore pretty prone to random outbursts of fed-up hormones!

mrspir8 · 21/06/2010 12:59

In the days before DD was born my husband and I both played WoW. It took up 2 and half years of our lives.

We did enjoy it very much but it is also invasive and addictive.

I cant speak for any other games but the only way I can describe WoW to anyone who has never played is that it's akin to being in a historical reenactment troupe in real life who would be expecting you to play out your role every weekend and practice for it every evening, make all your own props and provide services for others-there is emmense pressure if you are a main player to help out your fellows and play your part in the battles. The skill set of your character is required to make the whole thing work together. In that sense it is an amazing team work experience with genuine highs and lows, dissapointment and heroics, there are genuine albeit virtual opportunities to help others, compete with others, build a team, experience success and loss ETC. Strangely enough that side of it helped me gain confidence in real life-I used to think if I can be like that in game then I can be like it in real life.

It was an amazing experience and I made some genuine frinds who have come out of fantasy land and become real ones.

However, hubby and gave up when we realised we were sitting side by side, not saying a word but messaging each other in the game. We hardly ever had sex and we never did anything social with people. It almost killed our marriage. I am very glad that we dont play anymore, but I do have incredibly fond memories of those times as well. The hours we put in were enough to do another full time job on top of those we had.
Would I do it again? No
Do I regret it? No

Morloth · 21/06/2010 13:03

LOL we used to shag during instance toilet breaks.

Also played strip WoW once, that was fun.

starshaker · 21/06/2010 13:05

The only reason it would upset me is if i didnt get to WoW lol. I think 2 addicts would be too much for 1 house lol

weetabixwhiner · 21/06/2010 14:32

Haven't got time to sit on a computer all day!

Sex far more fun healthy and productive than computer games!

Lymond · 21/06/2010 16:54

Greensleeves You're probably right (that I'm a "right joyless bugger") but only today, because I'm knackered because I stayed up til 1am reading a very exciting sci-fi novel; so I'm also a right hypocrite.

But even on my best days, I wouldn't find a man sexy if he had a hobby of playing computer games.
