Then I would have a big sign made up that said, 'Oh fucking grow up' in sight of all the customers as they leave and of the shop owner while they go about their day.

AIBU?

YABU

I don't see why grown, normally rational women get their knickers in a twist at the thought of mere baked goods.

It's a yummy cake, get over it.

5Foot5 · 06/06/2010 16:33

Erm! There is such a shop in our town and plenty of empty premises in the same street you could let.

But I don't think I understand your objection. Surely a bot more cake in the world is a good thing?

I think maybe YABU. Please elaborate.

unltd · 06/06/2010 16:33

YABU

and weird

5Foot5 · 06/06/2010 16:34

Oh that should be "a bit more cake" obviously. Though I have probably got more bot as a result of cake.

Elgoogreven · 06/06/2010 16:37

Cake is fine although am a believer that you can't beat a good scone.
but what's with all the pink and frilly stuff?

OP posts:
Lauriefairycake · 06/06/2010 16:41

More cake is only to be lauded.

Frankly I love all the bunting-cupcakeness of the world.

And wish there was more of it.

Elgoogreven · 06/06/2010 16:44

nobody agrees!?

will keep my mutterings under my breath in that case.

OP posts:
Elgoogreven · 06/06/2010 16:46

maybe it's an aversion to pastel colours.

OP posts:
EveWasFramed10 · 06/06/2010 16:47

They don't have to be pastel...and even if they are...they are STILL yummy. Why is everyone so against more versions of cake?

5Foot5 · 06/06/2010 16:47

Hm! So is it the icing you object to rather than the cake? I myself find a little icing goes a long way but I have no objection to some decoration ans prettiness in cakes.

I don't care all that much for those big buns with lots of gaudy icing slathered over them. I think they would make me a bit nauseous.

AvadaKedavra · 06/06/2010 16:48

Oh no elgooreven, there are plenty on MN who agree with you - they just aren't here yet! Cupcake war #7 will soon start, don't you worry

secunda · 06/06/2010 16:49

What's wrong with cupcakes

Far too much effort and waste of time to make, but happy to scoff the efforts of others!

Elgoogreven · 06/06/2010 16:52

oh really, are cupcakes like p&t parking round here. I'm not around quite so much these days and have missed that one. (nevergoogledragonbutter here)

it's the icing (must be as i don't get annoyed by muffins), it's the cake stands, doilies, glitter on cakes, pastels. i can only assume there is bunting involved.

ime, the uglier the scone, the better it tastes.

KurriKurri · 06/06/2010 16:54

I'll wade in and support you ER, cup cakes are such a fashion thing, they are hugely overpriced buns. You can make them yourself for pennies, and leave of the mounds of disgusting goo on the top. I'm all for cake and baked goods, but a whole shop for buns? - its madness, MAAAAAAdness I tell you.

4andnotout · 06/06/2010 16:54

Cakes with loads of icing what's there to get your knickers in a twist about?

Elgoogreven · 06/06/2010 16:57

thanks kurri. feeling lonely here with my knickers all in a twist.

OP posts:
chaostrulyreigns · 06/06/2010 16:59

Please stop being backwardsy and reversey.

It's making all your assertations seem back to front.

I think you lurve cupcakes.

KurriKurri · 06/06/2010 17:04

Its not progress Chaos its a return to nineteenfiftiesness, next we'll all be in dirndl skirts.

5Foot5 · 06/06/2010 17:07

But I like cake stands! I really want one of those three tier ones with a handle up the middle.

deaddei · 06/06/2010 17:16

The icing makes my teeth ache.
But I'm up for a cream slice and a bit of Battenberg.

EveWasFramed10 · 06/06/2010 17:24

I made cupcakes for DS birthday on Fri. Easy to make, minimal decoration, and loved by everyone. What's not to like???

I have sent 'proper' cupcakes to friends for birthdays, and they have been a favourite gift. Yes, they are sweet, but because each one is smallish, the sweet is only brief.

I actually cannot believe I am debating this, ffs...cupcakes...haven't I better things to do???

hmmSleep · 06/06/2010 17:27

nevergoogledragonbutter! That was one of the first threads I ever read on Mumsnet, (and I'm still here .

MrsC2010 · 06/06/2010 17:27

I make our own, although they really aren't that pretty!! (They sure do taste good though.) But I love anything cake, so will certainly not be objecting to anyone filling the worl with more of it!

EvilTwins · 06/06/2010 17:28

Where I live, a BIG empty unit has just had signs put up in the windows advertising that it is soon to become a bakery and general purveyor of cupcakes galore. I am sooooo excited that I check its progress every time I go into town, and am constantly annoyed that its' NOT OPEN YET. More cake, I say. Bring them on. The sweeter and glitterier the better.

SPBHatesFootball · 06/06/2010 17:33

YABVU!!!

Can i assume that if cupcake shops are opening, that the recession is over?
