AIBU in thinking it's political and everyone is snubbing us again. Just turned over to see that UK is lagging 'again' in second last position - was the song really that bad?

ha, ha, change that - we actually are last now!!

To be fair the backing singers were flat, I had them about third from bottom.

MumInBeds · 29/05/2010 23:11

To be fair our song was rather weak and he missed quite a few of the notes.

funnysinthegarden · 29/05/2010 23:13

see my previous thread, tis an eastern block conspiracy I tell thee. Why oh why do we bother?

Buddleja · 29/05/2010 23:13

Certainly wasn't the worse of them!

scanty · 29/05/2010 23:15

oh well, never heard the song - glad to hear it's not necessarily a grudge thing. Oh the shame - what happened to our glory days of Bucks Fizz and all that? Actually saw BF on This Morning the other day and they actually sand 'Making your Mind Up' and ripped their skirts off - chocked on my eclair!!

the pretty young German winner has hairy pits - what's the bet that's the leading story on the DM tomorrow!! Nice to see she's carrying on the tradition of the lovely Nena! And her name's Lena as well.

It was a crap song, and a very mediocre performance. I think the top 10 was quite varied, and that the voting wasn't as obvious as it has been in previous years. I'm not sure we deserved last place, as some of the others were rubbish too, but I wasn't surprised.

GeraldineAubergine · 29/05/2010 23:22

Russia were ace, reminded me of mulligan and o'hare.

DuelingFanjo · 29/05/2010 23:25

The UK song was shit though.

HeadFairy · 29/05/2010 23:27

Isn't it ironic that a country like Britain with such a rich pop music culture can't win a silly song contest. Perhaps we should bring out the big guns and play chicken with those tactical voters... who would your fantasy song writing/performing team be?

Paul McCartney/Shirley Bassey
Damon Albarn/Lily Allen
Paul Weller/Alexandra Burke???????

2shoes · 29/05/2010 23:28

yanbu
it used to be fun but even if we had the greatest song in the world, sung by god we would not win

itsybitsy08 · 29/05/2010 23:28

Even if we had take that representing the uk we would still come last because it is so political.
Time for the uk to pull out.

HeadFairy · 29/05/2010 23:32

Did you know we get automatic entry to Eurovision as we're such big financial contributers to the EBU (as are Germany, France and Spain)? Surely we have some clout to introduce a better way of voting? Mind you, our song was shite.

chipmonkey · 29/05/2010 23:32

The trouble is, and this goes for Ireland too, is that anyone cool enough to win, wouldn't be caught dead entering.

BrigitBigKnickers · 29/05/2010 23:35

We deserved to come last- a truly awful song and cringingly performed.

HeadFairy · 29/05/2010 23:37

But chipmonkey, didn't Morrissey want to do the Eurovision entry a couple of years ago? Surely you can't get cooler than Morrissey?

AsiaMajor · 29/05/2010 23:39

@ HeadFairy

they did bring out the big guns to get a good result, it was a Stock & Waterman effort. They sold about a trillion records in the 80's all over the world... but I guess it's no the 80's anymore. Still it did not deserve to come last, some of the other songs were much worse, IMO.

HeadFairy · 29/05/2010 23:41

Really? Stock and Waterman wrote that? Blimey... they haven't improved then have they?

Robbie Williams? He could do with a hit!

KillerCleavage · 29/05/2010 23:42

It was that bad and it was a very poor Stock/Waterman effort. They wouldn't have given that song to Kylie!

ilovesprouts · 29/05/2010 23:43

did not watch it bag o rubbish !! its all political anyhow

hmc · 29/05/2010 23:45

It was a rubbish song - but it's because our decent musicians wouldn't risk tarnishing their reputation by entering Eurovision; it would be the death knell to any self respecting British band / singer to be associated with such cheesy euro-pop. I would rather we didn't enter - and that isn't sour grapes because we didn't win, it's more a realistic acknowledgement that it is not for us.

Lets face it - we endorse being 'European' but we are european in name only - we don't understand them and they don't get us (and I am not being 'Daily Mail' here, I am talking about our distinct cultural heritage and am speaking as a historian)

chipmonkey · 29/05/2010 23:48

No Headfairy, nobody was cooler than Morrissey. But then I am 41.
I suspect it would be a case of getting down wit da kids who probably haven't a clue who Morrissey is.

hmc · 29/05/2010 23:50

Are you sure Morrissey wasn't being heavily ironic? ...either that or he is suffering from pre-senile dementia?

Yes he was very cool - so please assure me he wasn't serious!

KillerCleavage · 30/05/2010 00:04

Talking of Morrissey, I discovered this week that I saw The Smiths in 1983 at a festival but I have no memory of them whatsoever

I'm sure they were awesome though.
