to send DH off to Tesco with 3 under 7's in tow?

DH has slept all afternoon on the settee. I have made clay models with our 3 dc's, then sorted out the jigsaw/game cupboard with them (half the puzzles have bits missing so we did all of them and chucked any with bits missing), then made a chilli for tea.

He woke up, said how noisy the dc's are, asked what was for tea and had I made any pudding? My answer? Yes they are, chilli and no. So he said he would go to Tesco and get something (in other words disappear for an hour and come back with cake!) At which point I thought sod this, and asked the kids if they wanted to go with him. Oh the look on his face, I wish I had a camera!

He's not a bad bloke, he's just got right on my nerves this afternoon and it turns out sometimes revenge doesn't have to be served all that cold! Can't wait for him to get back.

Will he be bringing the family sized Humble Pie (and custard) back?

pantaloons · 29/05/2010 16:13

Pikelit- Quite possibly! What really made his day was when I said he would have to get me some Tampax as well! Men.

LOl, YANBU. Serves him right.

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 29/05/2010 16:14

wonder if he will remember to buy cake or if he will come back in a daze clutching a box of straws, a colander and 3 boxes of eggs

SwansEatQuince · 29/05/2010 16:14

YANBU

mrspir8 · 29/05/2010 16:14

Love it!

pantaloons · 29/05/2010 16:14

He has taken a list, just hope he brings the right 3 kids back!

Plumm · 29/05/2010 16:15

You'll be lucky if he gets home with all three children!

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 29/05/2010 16:16

YANBU at all.

You have to tell us what he comes back with and how long he is. What's the betting the kids have nagged him into buying toys/ice cream/etc etc .

Not at all. I do it myself. If they think they can just keep bogging off they can think again!

foureleven · 29/05/2010 16:19

Yes YABU.... Tell him he can stay in with the kids. You go to Tesco and get puddling.. then stop off at a friends house, Have a glass of wine cup of tea, eat the cake and return in a 2 or more hours time.

PrettyCandles · 29/05/2010 16:19

On reading the thread title I instintively thought YABU that constitutes inhumane treatment. On reading the OP, however, YANBU oh so definitely YANBU!

pantaloons · 29/05/2010 16:20

foureleven- sounds like a plan for next time. I really musrt get my brain in gear!

YANBU

Last time I did this to DH he came home £70 poorer but with only one item that was on the list I had given him!

RnB · 29/05/2010 16:24

YANBU - and while he's gone pop to the local wine bar for several cocktails, making sure you take PLENTY of time

pantaloons · 29/05/2010 16:26

Bloody hell, I get 20 minutes peace and the phone has rung 3 times already. I keep thinking it's him, but not so far!

shoneshine · 29/05/2010 16:27

Good for you! It does our other halves good to have an hour or so in our place! Dh does do his best considering Men cant multitask but even he refused to go to the supermarket with our 5 year old,3 year old AND the 1 year old in buggy 'I wnt be able to manage a buggy and a basket' How do you think I manage when I go?! I am trying not to be sexist but Men do get off it so much easier dont they. Unless of course you are lucky enough to have a 'new man' who is v hands on! Xx

foureleven · 29/05/2010 16:40

Oh shoneshine dont say they cant multitask.. it makes it sound like its ok for them to be shit! They CAN multitask, its just some are happy to go along with the stereotype for obvious reasons!

MrsTicklemouse · 29/05/2010 16:41

hmmm what could I send DH out for???

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 29/05/2010 17:06

You are talking nonsense shoneshine and are a bit patronising.

foureleven · 29/05/2010 17:58

Oh just noticed 'if youre lucky enough to have anew man' Its not luck, its refusing to put up with anything but!!

pantaloons · 29/05/2010 18:06

Well, he came back at 4.55 with cheesecake and Elmlea. Elmlea? WTF? Oh well, at least it was pudding. He also had a pick and mix box of Nestle cereal which the kids picked. I have told him 40000 times I don't buy Nestle, but "the kids wanted them".

I said I was expecting some flowers as normally when he is an arse he comes back bearing chrissys. He said "bloody hell, looks like I better move to Holland!"

He did say he doesn't know how I manage and I pointed out it's always a good thing to put a toddler in a trolley! Maybe it was lesson learnt, but he has the memory of a goldfish, so I doubt it!

OP posts:
foureleven · 29/05/2010 19:28

Boak at Elmlea!

peppapighastakenovermylife · 29/05/2010 19:36

Does anyone ever actually buy elmlea on purpose or are they only still trading because people pick it up accidentally?
