putting her cigarette out (really grinding it) on the trunk of a tree in the town centre.

I wanted to say something but am not really the confrontational type. Now I wish I had

Where else could she have put it out though? Was she near a bin with an ash tray thingy?

Better than chucking it on floor. Am a little

CrankyTwanky · 20/05/2010 13:35

lol!
um, are you concerned that the tree was hurt?

Now, i'm a bit woo, but really?

whats so bad about that. do we think trees feel pain

Fibilou · 20/05/2010 13:35

She proceeded to chuck the butt on the floor so why not just drop it and tread on it rather than damaging a tree ?

What a horrible thing to do.

I saw a bloke the other week stub his cig out on a bin with a cig stubber on, then drop it into the cig box on the bin. I stopped him and thanked him for being considerate. Poor bloke thought I was going to lay into him for something . But, he went away with a smile.

pud1 · 20/05/2010 13:37

were do you live..... i want to move there if this is the worst thing you see in your town centre

mumofthreesweeties · 20/05/2010 13:37

How big was the tree? I see your point, but I'm not sure it would be 'damaged' by a cigarette butt unless it was a very small tree.

I'd call the police

Fibilou · 20/05/2010 13:39

Certainly not the worst thing i've seen -but totally unnecessary surely ?
Is total disrespect for every public amenity quite acceptable ? I just don't understand why you would do something like that. The tree was quite young and might have been damaged by it - and it certainly would be if everyone went round grinding their fags out on it.

PMSL

BalloonSlayer · 20/05/2010 13:41

Hopefully if she tries it in the autumn the tree will drop a conker on her head. Trees are not stupid, you know. Mark my words: it will be biding its time.

Fibilou · 20/05/2010 13:41

To be honest I think all your attitudes (apart from organiccarrots) are quite extraordinary.

TheCrackFox · 20/05/2010 13:41

You must live in a very posh part of town to get so het up about this.

pedrothellama · 20/05/2010 13:41

High Five to you Shineon

Pancakeflipper · 20/05/2010 13:42

Poor tree - did you take it to see the tree surgeon?

Out of interest, what were you going to say to her??
'Leave that poor tree alone!'

pud1 · 20/05/2010 13:45

trying to think of a joke regarding the tree being an ash but mind gone blank

Bramshott · 20/05/2010 13:46

Sorry OP - I don't think anyone is disagreeing that it was not an ideal thing to do. But "aghast" is quite a strong phrase. I would have been irritated if I'd seen that, I'm sure - it's antisocial, but surely so is dropping litter in the street or spitting out your chewing gum?
