popped into local "convenience" store earlier today.

Long queue as always, which is directed along the aisle that is packed with crisps, chocolate & sweets.

More sweets & chocolates at till points.

DS (2.5 yrs) fed up of continuously being told "NO" he couldnt have any sweets/chocolate/crisps then proceeded to chuck about 10 Mars Bars on the floor whilst I packed & paid for my shopping at the till.

In protest at having to queue in the said aisle I left them all on the floor & walked out the store.

so AIBU

I understand your frustration, but you were a bit rude. Have you tried something more constructive like a letter to management/head office?

RedRedWine1980 · 19/05/2010 17:19

YABU- why should the shopkeepers clean up after your naughty child?

claricestar · 19/05/2010 17:20

although I understand your frustrations...YABU!

jamaisjedors · 19/05/2010 17:20

YABU

cyb · 19/05/2010 17:20

YABU shopping means a queue

speak to the manager if you want to protest

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/05/2010 17:20

YABU. You should have cleaned up after him. Why should some poor knackered till assistant clean up after your mess? Ignorant behaviour.

mangoandlime · 19/05/2010 17:20

YABU.

It's not the fault of the staff, I expect they will have thought you rude to have not at least said sorry.

Actually they will not have made the connection with your unhappiness at the location of the sweets and the way you just left them there, they will just think you have no manners.

jamaisjedors · 19/05/2010 17:20

This to me is like being frustrated that there are no bins on the underground (or metro anyway) and throwing your rubbish on the floor in protest.

claricestar · 19/05/2010 17:20

although I understand your frustration YABU

Doodleydoo · 19/05/2010 17:21

I am with you - naughty 7 year old yes, naughty 2.5 yr old - although actually I probably would have picked them up but would have like to walk a way!

2shoes · 19/05/2010 17:22

yabu
and childish

ShatnersBassoon · 19/05/2010 17:22

YABU. You should have made your child pick them up.

Doodleydoo · 19/05/2010 17:22

away that was meant to be! I have moments of wanting to rebel but think I just can't do it. Sob!

Meglet · 19/05/2010 17:23

yabu.

Hardly sets a good example does it.

Mind you, I pick up food off the floor if I have taken my toddlers to a restaurant.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 19/05/2010 17:23

I am shocked you'd even ask the question!

Who do you think you are, really? That was so disrespectful and down right shitty parenting!

AhLaVache · 19/05/2010 17:23

Of course yabu.

Who should pick them up?

I'm not much of a judgey judger but I'd have had you down as a right lazy minger.

YunoYurbubson · 19/05/2010 17:24

Obviously YABU.

Sassybeast · 19/05/2010 17:24

YABU. What lovely manners you are teaching your child

cupcakesandbunting · 19/05/2010 17:26

YABU for two reasons;

  1. Is queuing a bit tedious? Bit of a waste of time? Shop online or get a personal shopper to do it for you. It's what most princesses with better things to do would do.

  2. Some poor, underpaid shop-worker has had to pick up mess created by your child. Unfair.

I expect the staff pontificated on what a precious madame you were and they'd be right.

MrsRhettButler · 19/05/2010 17:27

of course yabu and rude too!

so now your child thinks that if he is told 'no' then he can have a tantrum and then doesn't even clean up after himself! i would have stood there and made my dd pick them all up.

so its ok for your child to make a mess because you told him no?

YoMoJo · 19/05/2010 17:27

OK I get it - I was BU

I and a number of others that I know have spoken to the manager but we were all told that we had to write to HO.

Yes do feel bad that a shop assistant had to clean up after my DS. I have been there myself in a previous lifetime.

as for DS he is an Indigo child. Only joking he was a bloody pain today & has hardly moved of the naughty spot all afternoon!

Just one of those days!

yabu

AhLaVache · 19/05/2010 17:28

...and to make some kind of statement about the items where you have to cue is rubbish, your kid was bored and fed up and would have chucked whatever was there on the floor. Not like he thought "damn you mars bars, taunting me with your shiny packaging..." is it?

Millenium · 19/05/2010 17:28

Your child should be kept under control - quite simple really and if you don't like what is clearly regularly queueing in this shop then shop elsewhere.

Downdog · 19/05/2010 17:29

YANBU - though you are being a little childish (nothing wrong with that on occasion).

I'm with you on this one - the supermarkets put the chocolate etc there relying on pester power to get you to buy for the kiddies they know full well will be nagging you.

Part of that equation (for me anyway) is the supermarket taking responsibility when the child they are targeting acts like children do and throws them around.

If it was in a corner store where they have stuff at kids level, but aren't directly targeting kids but simply using every single space available to them, then I think it would be unreasonable.
