To think my friend shouldn't be discussing this yet with her 12 year old dd (bit intimate0

She's been discussing puberty etc.. with her dd who's starting to change slowly. That's a good thing as I believe you need to be open and able to talk about this sort of thing.

But she's also said she'll show her how to shave her lady bits when she needs to. I know my friend is obsessed with this for herself but surely her dd should choose? Not that I want to know but I just feel it's going a bit too far. Or am I being stuffy, is this the norm? I only have dss but have lots of girls in my family and have never heard of this?

Btw friend isn't a mumsnetter so won't see this. Although tbh, if it came up I'd say it to her face that I think she should let her decide.

"Upset later in life"?

What, from looking like a woman? Sake!

There's a deal of difference between shaving the pits (armpits do smell of sweat very much more readily if they contain thickets of hair) and this bizarre and very recent obsession with shaving your front bottom so you look like a pre-pubescent child.

A 12 year old should be growing up into puberty naturally but with the confidence to ask her mother about hair removal if she thinks it is a problem.

I had this conversation with DD when she was 11 because she had often watched me shave and one day asked why. However, I was careful to make it clear that it would be her decision in due course. I'm sure the subject will have come up with her friends regardless of anything I might say.

the truth is about shaving your pubes is that NOBODY ELSE SEES THEM UNTIL YOU LOSE YOUR VIRGINITY.

how can it be due to ridicule making you want to do it? How can it be peer pressure?

I shaved mine off as soon as they turned up. I was more comfortable that way.

In all honesty, my first lover was NOT any factor in my pube removal, I honestly expected him to be damn grateful.
