... that the tories / lib-dems only care about themselves and have a 'as long as I'm alright jack' attitude,..

yet. all the people complaining about it are the ones who are worried THEIR benefits will be cut (and two that I know shouldn't be on benefits in hte first place as they are both on JSA and patently not looking for work )

But, these self same people don't give a jack about the people paying more tax to keep them in benefits.

Double standards, IMHO.

And, yes, I'm prepared to be crucified.

Gibbon I'm not making the rules but it's fraud if it's not declared isn't it ?

ABatInBunkFive · 13/05/2010 13:48

You';d be laughed out the job centre...

Can just imagine it now. 'My dad has offered to take us to his caravan?'

''

'Someone on the net told me i need to declare it, so you can ajust my benefit accordingly'

''

'Fuck off on holiday and stop rubbing it in you wido'

HAHAHA!

Gibbon · 13/05/2010 13:49

I am in a fortunate position to be able to be a SAHM and that DH that earns enough for us to be comfortable but having lived many years ago in a very different position I feel blessed. Have some compassion. You might find yourself in a similar position one day.

Fraud? Going to Bognor for a few days? Hardly working two jobs cash in hand is it.

Can you hear how hysterical you sound?

ABatInBunkFive · 13/05/2010 13:52

Gibbon - Same here but seemingly that makes me a benefit cheat myself.

Gibbon · 13/05/2010 13:53

FFS would you really begrudge someone going away wih their family for a short break once a year? A treat from their father?

Gibbon I think I just said that we were in exactly that position.

And Kerry Katona's mum was successfully prosecuted for not declaring money given to her whilst claiming benefits, so be careful those being topped up from other sources because there will be plenty of jealous people who'll shop you in a heart beat if you've had a holiday this year and they are never likely to have one.

Gibbon · 13/05/2010 14:00

I'm sure Kerry's mum was given far more than a few days by the sea and a tumble dryer.

I can see the headline now.

Tumble Drying Benefit Cheat Hung Out To Dry.

ABatInBunkFive · 13/05/2010 14:03

Yes for not declaring money. Nothing was said about the house she was bought though.

mamatomany · 13/05/2010 14:05

A so a little bit of fraud is ok just not a lot of fraud ?

Look I couldn't care less what people do to get through sticky periods but to use "my dad made us look affluent" whilst the state fed us as a justification is a bit daft because it's not playing fair and it's not something available to every single mum or couple that find themselves in the shit.

ABatInBunkFive · 13/05/2010 14:06

But being give a gift isn't fraud FFS!

ABatInBunkFive · 13/05/2010 14:10

Charities offer some people on benefits holidays, do those who take them up have their benefits slashed for the privilidge? Do they have to tell the jobcentre about it at all? no.

So what is the difference?

Do you have to declare whenever someone else buys you a coffee? where is the line drawn?

Oh yes that's right money above a certian amount gifted has to be declared, every fart proffered in your direction? no.

Now have a but remember to declare if if you are on benefits.

mamatomany · 13/05/2010 14:12

When you fill out JSA/income support claim forms there is a section that asks if you receive any payments in cash or in kind for example bills paid for you, it's there for all to see.

ABatInBunkFive · 13/05/2010 14:14

regular bill paid for you. and again we've been over the cash thing.

Gibbon · 13/05/2010 14:17

Yes how dare people let their parents treat them now and then. They have their 3 year old childs 'income' what more do they want?

posieparker · 13/05/2010 14:21

I relish the idea that 'those that can, do and those that can't get adequate support'....

mamatomany · 13/05/2010 14:21

Nope it doesn't say regular bills, it says bills therefore my understanding and as was spelt out loud and clear to DH was any penny you get given is to be declared, including in kind and we'll let you know how much is to be deducted.
You'd be an idiot to do so, but DO NOT make out it's right/ok but it obviously isn't fair on other people who do not have another source of top ups.

sunshinenanny · 13/05/2010 14:22

Glad you're such an expert mamatomany, you can get a job with the new government leading a witch hunt against anyone on benefits who dares to accept a present from a kindly family member. What an unpleasant know it all you sound. Yes there are benefit cheats but the majority of people in this unfortunate position are honest. My dear cousin has saved the state a fortune caring, First for her diabled mother and now for her father who has dementia. The thanks for this is that she lives in poverty and her own health has suffered. How terrible that her aunts and cousins can sometimes give her a little treat to make life more bearable. Most of the unemployed are desperate to find work. It's not an easy option.

ABatInBunkFive · 13/05/2010 14:24

You are talking rubbish, but whatever you carry on.

I'm going to get my friend to pop into the jobcentre to declare it the next time i buy her lunch, should be a laugh.

itsybitsy08 · 13/05/2010 14:28

mamatomany - its regular bills paid for you, interest on cash over £6000 (for ctc only counts if the interest is over £300)
childs income - again its only if it adds up to over £6000 (would be a very lucky child who had over 6 grand in savings!)
of course you can go on holiday if some one paid for you.
father could buy you a house and it would not make any difference to how much benefits you get (obv apart from housing)
no one is commiting fraud if they accept gifts and i am that you seem to be so badly mis-informed.
maybe the person at the job center who gave you and your dp this impression should be on the other side of the desk...

ABatInBunkFive · 13/05/2010 14:29

yay for another speaking sense.

Gibbon · 13/05/2010 14:34

maybe the person at the job center who gave you and your dp this impression should be on the other side of the desk...

Gibbon · 13/05/2010 14:36

Don't forget to give her the receipt bat
