... that the tories / lib-dems only care about themselves and have a 'as long as I'm alright jack' attitude,..

yet. all the people complaining about it are the ones who are worried THEIR benefits will be cut (and two that I know shouldn't be on benefits in hte first place as they are both on JSA and patently not looking for work )

But, these self same people don't give a jack about the people paying more tax to keep them in benefits.

Double standards, IMHO.

And, yes, I'm prepared to be crucified.

Oh, and in case anyone was feeling sorry for me, I have black BMW X5 with darkened windows and a private plate.

I am universally hated

god i know cupcakes - those on benefits should go round in sack cloths and only be allowed out within certian hours.

cupcakesandbunting · 12/05/2010 15:56

Oh do fuck off, ABIBF. That's not what I'm saying and you know it.

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/05/2010 16:00

Harimo do you sell cocaine?

Harimo · 12/05/2010 16:00

I am unemployed. I do not claim benefits because I look after my two small children.

THe two people I'm thinking about also do not work. One has a DH who does work, but for a family firm, so can easily 'doctor' the income and the other one has a DP but doesn't mention him to the Jobcentre.

Not really sure how much detail I have to go into before you realise that this is happening. That this is, actually, a massive problem with welfare as it stands today.

Bogus claims are not, IMHO, a minority. I KNOW of Irish people that have come to England PURELY to give birth because it's free.

OP posts:
GetOrfMoiLand · 12/05/2010 16:01

Is that what you call freebirthing?

Harimo · 12/05/2010 16:01

I do not sell drugs.

But, I would be a magnet for them if I did.

I Know people who pissed about on the dole for years, they weren't well off but neither were they really job seekers.

However for every one person who does this there are several others who really need the benefits and who are struggling.

lorelilee · 12/05/2010 16:03

It makes me laugh the way that people think that they are ENTITLED to 'luxuries' even although they are not working (and fit enough to do so, but choose not). Bottom line, if you are unemployed for no reason but laziness, you should get the very minimum required to put a roof over your head and eat 3 square meals a day - if you want more than that, get off your lazy arse and work for it!

Mouseface · 12/05/2010 16:06

Harimo - re the green eyed comment, maybe you should have said you're posh totty

Tis clealry me who is all green eyed!

No offense intended.

cupcakesandbunting · 12/05/2010 16:07

Thankyou Lorilee. I would LOVE to be able to afford some lovely Waitrose products but tough shit. Budget don't allow it and there's two of us working. I certainly wouldn't be living an aspirational lifestyle on benefits. My sister got made redundant from her well-paid job and claimed JSA for eighteen months. She had to stop shopping at Waitrose and dining out at expensive restaurants because her income got cut significantly. That's how it works; lower income = you revise your lifestyle habits.

DuelingFanjo · 12/05/2010 16:53

I can totally understand why it would be difficult for a Tory to understand the concept of people caring about what happens to people other than themselves though.

Harimo · 12/05/2010 16:58

Why???????? I'm a tory, and happy to say so. DOesn't mean I don't care about those in need.

Just a bit fed up with those who don't really NEED it (but feel entitled) and claim anyway.

I still stand by that there are more people claiming that don't really need to than people who are desperate to avoid paying more tax.

Yet it's the dodgers who are so ruddy vocal about tax issues...

Empty vessels make most noise, yes?????

I agree with what lorelilee and cupcakesandbunting have said regarding benefit claiments.
I have been a single mum in the past, and as I only have 1 child, the amount of money I recieved when I was out of work, was enough to put a roof over our heads and bare minimum essentials, but nothing left over for treats and non-essentials (I had to drink lambrini!!!). And that is how it should be IMHO!
With every child you have, your money go's up by roughly £55pw, it does not cost this much to feed and clothe a child every week!
That is what annoys me about the benefits system, there is girls I went to school with, who have never worked, one in particular gave birth a month past her 16th birthday (we are now 28) and is on to baby no.6! Her dc's all have different dads, and she is rolling in it! She go's out clubbing every weekend, her dc's all have the latest nike trainers, she has a 42in LCD TV, and she smokes about 40 a day, all paid for by us hard working tax payers!!!
I would welcolme any move to clamp down on this scum of society, I have nothing against genuine claiments, as I have been one myself in the past, it's the serial breeders I would like to see getting their handouts cut.

StephysFamous · 12/05/2010 17:04

Had also heard people say things along those lines Harimo, but they tend to be people who don't have a clue what is currently going on and are only picking up on the end of what other people have been saying.
This morning had the "Aye, but that's what my mum said."

I do know people who are genuinly (sp?) conserned about benefits being cut, people who get around £60 a week on JSA and are looking for work but what can you do if there's no work going? A few of my friends are doing voluntary work just now so it's something extra to put on their CV's when they are applying for jobs, do they get rewarded for this? No, they get told off in a manner you would tell off a child as they may not be available for interviews as they are working in a charity shop for example, could maybe see the point if they were actually recieving any calls.

ABatInBunkFive · 12/05/2010 17:06

'Yet it's the dodgers who are so ruddy vocal about tax issues...'

Ah so this is a piss take thread...

How can anyone tell if people on JSA are doing all they can to find employment, or are simply choosing not to work?
How can anyone tell if they are unemployed through laziness?

Your post implies you believe JSA is not the very minimum. How much would you like to see people on JSA living on, if you can decipher which ones are lazy and not looking?

juneybean · 12/05/2010 17:33

LOL I saw a prize comment on facebook last night "how am i ment 2 hav a wknd out now" ....aww my hearts breaking for her.

sparklefrog How can anyone tell if people on JSA are doing all they can to find employment, or are simply choosing not to work? hmm
How can anyone tell if they are unemployed through laziness?

It is quite easy to tell. When they are offered jobs they have random excuses and barriers to put in the way of actually going for it, i see it A LOT in my line of work.

i.e.

Me - I have an interview for you at X

  • I cant get there

Me - I'll pay for your transport.

  • The bus times are wrong, Id have to wait around for half an hour.

Me - I'll give you a lift

  • But I don't have a suit

Me - here is £20, Primark's down the road.

  • But Im rubbish at choosing clothes without my sister and she's at work...

And so it goes on....

Exactly my point sparklefrog.

Litchick · 12/05/2010 17:42

LOL.
You reminded me of the scene in Trainspotting where Spud is forced to go for an interview but has to make sure he doesn't get the job.

foureleven · 12/05/2010 17:46

Haha havent seen that film in FOREVER, yes exactly like spud!

cupcakesandbunting · 12/05/2010 17:47

I get CTC and we earn 42K between us. I'll be sad to see the CTC go as it does help out but at the same time I KNOW that there are families much more needing of the £38 p/m than us so I will not complain about it.

TotalChaos · 12/05/2010 17:49

yabu. I say this sort of stuff and the only benefit we get is CTC, which like cupcakes I am fine with being cut.
