to feel frustrated when people moan about unemployment

People moan about unemployment in this country and then go out and buy French apples, Italian cheese, Californian wine etc etc, and use companies who have call centres in Poland or India. Maybe if people supported their country, people would have jobs.

No, homemade. I did use imported sugar though

ChallengingCitrusHalibut · 08/05/2010 20:24

I scour supermarkets for British fruit and veg but it isn't there most of the time. Annoying when you know there are local producers. Also if I want Parmesan it is Italian, no choice about that!

As for call centres, most banks and utility companies have places abroad now so hard to avoid.

3cats3dogs · 08/05/2010 20:24

YABU.
I can think of loads to say, but can't be arsed
Have another

JaneS · 08/05/2010 20:30

Yeah, damn those unemployed people buying the cheapest stuff on offer, how dare they?

GypsyMoth · 08/05/2010 20:39

juneybean · 08/05/2010 20:41

www.britishcheese.com/parmesan

Apparently so LOL

itsybitsy08 · 08/05/2010 20:44

Yabu for so many reasons i havent got the time to list them! Not everything in life is so black and white........

GypsyMoth · 08/05/2010 20:44

yes,but have you tasted british wine.....if its similiar quality to that rubbish then no bloody way!!

sethstarkaddersmum · 08/05/2010 20:45

The English apples are rubbish at the moment - it's either antipodean apples or no apples.
British wine is only sometimes ok and then rather expensive.
It's the foreign beans that get to me, in the middle of the bean season.

expatinscotland · 08/05/2010 20:46

I don't moan about unemployment.

Can I have my fucking cheese back?

JackBauer · 08/05/2010 20:46

hahahahaha.

You have waaaaaay too little going on in your life for this to piss you off.

LynetteScavo · 08/05/2010 20:49

I don't moan about unemployment, so can I finish the glass of Californian wine I'm drinking? I'll sit here and imagine all the Americans I'm supporting.

One world, and all that.

scurryfunge · 08/05/2010 20:50

How do you know that the people who moan about unemployment are the same people who buy imports?

ShadeofViolet · 08/05/2010 20:50

Well I dont like wine or apples, so does that mean I am allowed to moan about unemployment?

expatinscotland · 08/05/2010 20:52

Cheese? Do you like cheese?

Call centres abroad? I hope you ring off and then ring up the, erm, call centre to take your business elsewhere.

LynetteScavo · 08/05/2010 21:01

I don't intentionally use companies with call centres in India. Sometimes it's unavoidable.

ShadeofViolet · 08/05/2010 21:01

I like Cheddar

larks35 · 08/05/2010 21:04

apples, wine and cheese and call centres

apples - I get them from the garden, out of season I get them from the green grocer.
Wine - I like a full-bodied red and have never tasted a British full-bodied red (usually from Chile).
Cheese - cheddar(local), cheddar(from up north), stilton(local) and goats(from wales) and yes parmesan(from Italy).

I'm not thinking that these choices are gonna make a difference to employment in our country.

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 08/05/2010 21:20

Please, please, don't deport me, I am only a humble cheese

wannaBe · 08/05/2010 21:35

I actively seek to avoid companies that have call centres abroad. Obviously it's not always possible though. But it's not because of unemployment - it's because it is endlessly frustrating to have to speak to someone abroad where they often are working only to a script, do not speak very good english, the line is usually crap and they are degraded by their employers who insist they ditch their own names in favour of convincing-sounding english ones. I'm afraid that if you ring me with a broad indian/south african/pakistani/ and tell me that your name is "Richard Jones" I'm afraid I shall remain unconvinced and might even decide to take my business elsewhere. .

On the point of call centres I certainly don't blame the unemployed for using companies that have foreign call centres because often there is no choice. I do blame the employers though for making hundreds of thousands of staff redundant every year so they can move their call centres abroad in order that they can pay their staff a pittence and get away with it.

I am partial to a bit of cheddar though and I don't drink wine.

What about all the Poles, Indians, French, Americans and Italians you would be putting out of work?
