to feel frustrated when people moan about unemployment

People moan about unemployment in this country and then go out and buy French apples, Italian cheese, Californian wine etc etc, and use companies who have call centres in Poland or India. Maybe if people supported their country, people would have jobs.

JackBauer I hope you never have unemployment in your family, because when you do, it doesn t seem like there's waaaaaay too little going on in your life.

I have had experience of unemployment in my family, but I wouldn't blame it on French apples.
Even foreign food still needs people in this country to deal with it. Importers and warehouses employ british people by bringing in foreign food and packaging it/preparing it ready to be trasnported and sold. So there is a teeny flaw in your argument.

2Shoes, yes, I think buying British WOULD actually help your dh get a job in the building trade, as it would boost employment in this country which in turn would boost wealth and so give a much needed kickstart to the housing market.
VoulezVous,Just as many people would be employed in the warehouse and distribution industry if people bought British. The only difference would be they would be handling and transporting British made rather than foreign products.
I m sure lots of British manufacturers and farmers and their families would be really grateful for more support.

I try to buy goods that are as local as possible. Some lovely things are made in the uk but the catch is that you have to be able to afford them.
