To think that Gordon Brown is a fucking megalomaniac who should be removed from No10 for his and our safety?

The man must be on the edge: "OK, you've voted against me/my party in your thousands, but guess what? I don't care and will cling on to my bit of power for dear life because I am Gordon and I must be right."

I've never been so annoyed by politics in my life.

I know it might come to nothing anyway, but the bloody cheek of it all!

Edam here The Times says it much more eloquently that I ever could! Feel free to post some links re how fab Gordon Brown is.

edam · 08/05/2010 23:29

Think we must have cross posted, Kafka. I don't think Gordon's great, I just think the people attacking him for doing exactly what he should do and hanging on until we find a new PM are a bit thick.

Kafka9 · 08/05/2010 23:35

Ok

  1. Agree constitutionally it is right and in best interest of country he should remain as PM. If a coalition is agreed etc that is time to leave
  2. My objectiion is his attempts to hang on to power from his severly weakened position. See Times article linked above, they put it much better that I ever could. I have in my time voted Labour, and Conservative I am not a tory die hard. My concern at the moment is that quickly we achieve a workable and strongish govt for a few months or longer. I am all for consensus politics. I don't think GB has been helpful in this regard, I think his posturing on the evening of polling day and the following day have been meddlesome and designed to for want of a better phrase at this late hour create trouble.

I am off to sleep now

edam · 08/05/2010 23:45

You forgot no. 3: The Times is owned by one Rupert Murdoch and backed Cameron for PM. Hence it is hardly going to run any articles praising Gordon for holding the fort. They are sore because they've been caught backing the wrong horse.

One of the best things about this election has been the British people proving Murdoch, his minions and offspring don't actually run the country. Not all of the time, anyway. No doubt it'll be business as usual once Clegg's decided to play at being Dave's fag.

Rosieeo · 08/05/2010 23:53

nighbynight Yes, I know. That's why I said it made me laugh.

'And repeal all this sodding repressive legislation - Labour is supposed to be a progressive party in favour of civil liberties, not attacking them.'

For once I agree with you politically, edam. We seem to have swung away from the notion of the state being the servant to the citizen towards it being the custodian of the citizen. That's quite, quite wrong.

Unless or until you've done anything wrong there should be a presumption of innocence. So no more databases of families or volunteers.

ANd if you want to smoke in your own sodding car, good luck to you.

OP - YABU, remarkably naiive, and blindingly ignorant of parlimentary and constitutional process despite the patient explanations of many posters.

edam · 09/05/2010 15:44

Amen to that, Abr1de. I see it locally as well - as a school governor, when dealing with County, they adopt a really bossy manner (and follow it through in their actions). Parents have to fall into line with County edicts. Children being left without school places - all our fault apparently. How dare people choose where they would like their child to go to school?!

zebedeethezebra · 09/05/2010 16:29

Totally agree with OP - he should resign immediately.

abr1de · 09/05/2010 16:57

Yes--we have this too in our village primary! Personally I think one or two people in Local Education Authorities could be on The List because They never would be missed, and heads and governors could get on with stuff.

And don't get me started on OFSTED, which now seems to be more about finding non-existent health and safety issues in schools than anything else. We have an old, pretty, Victorian schoolhouse, which is apparently a huge threat to children and staff. They're on The List too.

PosyPetrovaPauline · 09/05/2010 20:46

well he'll be off tomorrow and then you can all start scapegoat-ing Milliband

Alouiseg · 09/05/2010 20:55

David Milliband is odds on to be the next Labour leader according to Ladbrokes.

edam · 09/05/2010 22:19

abr1de, in the interests of full transparency, should point out the County Council bossing everyone around is Tory. And has been since the year dot. Mind you, the Lib Dem district council isn't noticeably any better.

edam · 09/05/2010 22:21

(p.s. Not surprised by what you say about Ofsted. We have 1950s glass curtain walling which is failing but apparently County have no money to sort it out - so health & safety not that important then. Ofsted'll probably slam us for it while County tell us 'tough'. Our capital budget certainly isn't big enough to replace it and never will be.)

abr1de · 10/05/2010 08:11

Yes, so is ours Tory, edam, I'm afraid to say.

We have a very, very similar situation to your walling issue! So similar I am rubbing my eyes. It is going to cost thousands to sort out a problem that doesn't exist.

I think OFSTED must have been on a dangerous wall training session. Why don't they concentrate on teaching?

edam · 10/05/2010 23:11

We are due an Ofsted any day now and apparently it has all changed since last time they were in (when we got outstanding so everyone's very edgy). Rumours are flying about them marking down one school because the woman in the office offered them a cup of coffee without checking their ID - even though someone else HAD greeted them and woman in office knew that they were who they said they were.

abr1de · 11/05/2010 08:33

I wouldn't be at all surprised, edam: I have heard similar things round here. They've obviously been on some training course. And you've got a lot to live up to with outstanding. I hope it goes well for you.

Apparently our wall is 'dangerous' because it is 'low' and a child could be abducted. Really? In broad daylight with a member of staff always present in the tiny playground? In a small, relatively crime-free village, where everyone knows everyone and where nobody has ever been abducted? We now have to put up very expensive iron railings, to keep the children away from the 'dangers'.

OFSTED should be abolished.

edam · 11/05/2010 23:02

yeah, because obviously caging children is The Right Thing To Do. I suspect Ofsted may be run by the Childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

WombFrootShoot · 11/05/2010 23:08

ABOLISH OFSTED has got to be the funniest thing I have ever read on MN (and I'm including the penguin/bobble plate/linky-no-linky threads)

edam · 11/05/2010 23:11

Maybe we could start an MN campaign?

abr1de · 12/05/2010 09:59

YES.

Replace/modify it with a more limited body that doesn't go around looking at light fittings (seriously, we've had this) and who gets a cup of coffee in reception.

edam · 12/05/2010 20:00

Our very own rainbow alliance!

Well, red and blue anyway. Kind of purple, really.
