Animal Sex

Brett Mills of the University of East Anglia has stated that filming animals at "intimate moments", without consent is an invasion of privacy.

AIBU to suggest that this university is publicly funded; and as a consequence Mr Mills ought to be doing something more useful with his time, and our money ?

I thought this thread was going to be about something very differant........

anywho, yes, he's mad... animals don't give a monkeys who'd watching, anyone that's had a cat or dog in heat can verify that statement!

RustyBear · 02/05/2010 16:12

Did he suggest how consent should be obtained?

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 02/05/2010 16:12

I clicked on this by accident, I was so relieved when I actually read your post as I was really, really worried as to what I would find!

It is a complete and utter waste of time and money. YANBU.

beanlet · 02/05/2010 16:18

Agree with you're general sentiment (I'm an academic myself) -- Dr Mills, being in media studies rather than zoology, appears to have strayed into an area he knows bugger-all about. But, again, being in media studies, he won't have been given any kind of grant to do the research, so I wouldn't worry too much about the money.

Karmann · 02/05/2010 16:31

Me too Tulips! And yes RustyBear, since when could any animal sign a consent form?

Fenouille · 02/05/2010 16:33

Well, my cat watches us do it sometimes, so should I be making him sign a consent form? ... Oh, hang on, animals can't read or write*.

YANBU. This professor (?) is being as idiot. When politicians talk about cutting HE funding I always hope this is the kind of thing they're talking about.

*I know there have been at least one ape and a parrot who could read, but I'm generalising here.

BloomingFlowers · 02/05/2010 16:38

I also, have had cats and dogs bonk in front of me (without my implicit permission).

Bloody hell; my Daughter has in the past, been exposed to explicit Guinee Pig Porn whilst they've just got on with it; in full view of my four year old; whilst we innocently visited a "petting" farm. No interference with Guinee Pigs took place. Tis just an unfortunate double-entendre in this instance.

Said child has witnessed Meercats and various other mammals "at It". She regularly watches National Geaographic/David Attenborough and can confidendly tell you how most Animals shag.

I am "apparently" an Animal Sex abuser by Mr Mill's (lecturer at East Anglia's ) account.

This thread cracks me up! pmsl @ obtaining consent and gunea pig porn!!

BritFish · 02/05/2010 16:47

bless, some people really dont get the difference between PEOPLE and PETS.
yeah we're all animals, but we are animals who've built cities and civilisations and technology.
and if we want to watch porn we'll bloody well do it!

BloomingFlowers · 02/05/2010 16:50

Fenouille .
I could never let the cat "watch me at it".

Mine however is Ninga Cat.
I still haven't worked out how she got two rooks/crows in my sitting room simultaneously.

My cat would post on You Tube the cat equivalent of Simon's Cat; but Human's having sex. Can't be risked.

My advise is... never have sex in front of a cat.
Trust me. I speak from experience.

Monkeys

Fenouille · 02/05/2010 17:16

Ha ha at Blooming's ninja cat With ours it's not a case of "letting". We just don't normally notice until it's too late (we call him the peeping tom - I'm just glad he doesn't know where our camcorder is).

Our other cat is currently making love to our sheepskin rug. She kneads it and arches her back while purring loudly. I always feel vaguely dirty watching her, although as the rug's in the middle of the lounge it's a little difficult to ignore. Perhaps that's the kind of thing Dr. Mills is talking about?

I am aware our cats are odd.

Fenouille · 02/05/2010 17:22

Erotic Slugs

TulipsInTheSunshine · 02/05/2010 17:31

We used have a cat that humped dp's arm... dp would have lived his life happily without ever experiencing that so maybe Brett Mills has it the wrong way round... maybe animals should be asking our consent before forcing their sexually deviant practices upon us

TulipsInTheSunshine · 02/05/2010 17:35

dear lord... I'm both fascinated and horrified at the slug sex.

and yet we vainly believe extra terrestrials would be similar to humans in some way yet we have things as strange and bizarre as that on our own planet

sorry, tangant

Fenouille · 02/05/2010 17:47

Tulips isn't it interesting? DH once stopped a dinner party cold after declaring that slug sex is erotic just as there was a bit of a lull.

And you've just reminded me that DH's old cat used to suckle a weird nubbin that he has growing out of his armpit.

I do think you might be on to something though - I think it's time to draw up some house rules for our sexually deviant pussies

BloomingFlowers · 02/05/2010 18:10

Slug sex is anialistic.

Slug control is an anhialistic massacre.

I confess that I have watched slugs have sex.

I confess that I have not asked for consent.

Fenoouille. I concur with your husband that slu sex is enterliy wonderful (in principle).

I; as a Parent, have taken some joy , in taking my child to petting zoos, zoos, preferrably with Babboons or Spider Monkeey's and Oranguatans. I'll share this in the next post.

Come on Blooming, don't keep us on tenterhooks...

We also saw somw snail sex in Mauritius once, I even took a photo Do you think our voyeurism may have scarred them?

CaveMum · 02/05/2010 18:59

I'd be in real trouble then as my old job was in a racehorse breeding stud and I must have seen hundreds of horses have sex over the years!

Vallhala · 02/05/2010 19:00

Well I'm buggered if I know how they'd sign a consent form!

Brett Mills needs to consider a career change. What a twat!

mayorquimby · 02/05/2010 19:21

But the animals lack the mens rea for any sort of consent based act. As such the question of consent with an animal is moot. They can't consent or not consent it's a human concept.

BloomingFlowers · 02/05/2010 19:22

Slug sex is wonderful. It takes hours. It's tremenous "gay " abandon.

I wish it for myself.

As an organic Gardener; I just let them ""hey ho in my garden. But the reality is...

The male slug lays a pheremone trail; that stops juvenile slugs inhabiting the same terrain,

That's all well and good.

I need a humping; it's been months,

I'll invite a whole party of meerkats to view Human porn on a reciprcol basis.

OP posts:
Tidey · 02/05/2010 19:24

I don't think I've ever seen an animal having sex, but if I ever do, I will be sure to get them to sign a release form.

I saw three male ducks chasing a female the other day, she wasn't best pleased and kept quacking what I can only assume was the mallard equivalent of 'feck off' at them.

BloomingFlowers · 02/05/2010 19:29

Tidey have you ever been out?
Ate you by any chance outside the UK ?

Bless

OP posts:
Tidey · 02/05/2010 19:32

I have no idea what that sarcastic reply was in aid of, I am in the UK and of course I go out, I just don't happen to have seen any animals at it, apart from on nature programmes which I'm assuming didn't count?
