to think that a 3 y/o is too young to be on the street unsupervised?

this has got me so mad, a neighbour's son got bumped by a car, it was nothing at all. car pulled over to let another pass and reversed slightly to drive off and bumped a 3 year old boy. He didnt know he had even touched him.
Kid gets up and goes home, mother comes out cuddling the child who is now crying. driver has been allerted to the accident and goes to talk to the mother who is back indoors. Father sais to man go away man goes to police station to report the accident.

Then a Traffic Car with female officer arrives followed by one ambulance and one paramedic car. Way to go wasting my taxes
DH spoke to paramedic and there was nothing wrong with the child but mother insisted they were taken to hospital, paramedic was disgusted with the state of the house and the fact that her other three children were running around in the middle of the road still
Many of the neighbours says it was only a matter of time before one of them got hit by a car

Neither work both are able to, the kids are running in and out of everybodys gardens, I have seen them running around swinging the garden rake (god help em if it had of caught my car) two of the boys were kicking their football against DH coach and damaged it, a bit later the sister of the boys came to the door to tell us what they had done, when confronted mother had a massive row with us saying it wasnt her kids!

We are lucky enough to have a park with a play area currently under construction but nearly done, so why cant they play there instead of on the busy streets!

At three y/o is he too young to be running around the streets on his own?

tbh im surprised u even asked this question and if anyone gives u any answers any different to mine then i will be very surprised.

Of course 3 is too young to be in the streets on his own, my god!!!
This really has angered me too, 3 years old, my son is 4 and is never out of my site outside of the house unless he is with another responsible adult eg. family and nursery

YAcertainlyNBU! God, I'd be terrified! DD is 4.5 and I've had to break the news that it will be next summer, not this one before she plays out.

BUT that doesn't mean the three year old is not to receive medical attention - how weird that you felt you could decide how serious it was - things may look ok, but actually not be.

My neighbour seems to think its ok though she sends them out in the morning and they go all over, They both have the time to supervise the children yet neither does!

YANBU 3 yrs old and playing out alone thats neglect of sorts I would have thought, especially if child has been run over. Interesting to see what happens when the story comes out to police and at hospital as I'm sure they have a duty of care to report it.

I don't think your suggestion that the children should go play in a construction site is a helpful one.
Perhaps once the play park is complete it will be a safer alternative, But surely it is very dangerous for any child whatever their age to play near construction.

YANBU, I will not let my daughter play out unattended until she is much much older.

My dd 3 will not play out until she is a lot older. She has 0 road sense or safety awareness.

YANBU my ds1 is 6yrs old, and the only time that he is allowed outside to play is when dh or I are able to sit outside to watch him. I started letting dd1 outside to play when she was 9yrs, and dd2 was 8 yrs old as she used to go out with dd1.

Hmm well I think YANBU, however I have a older DD1 nearly 9, she is very sensible, we live in a quiet cul de sac and the children all play out!
My DD2 is 2 and a half and desperate to play with the big girls, I will sometimes let them play on the drive or walk down the road with her, I will usually be in the kitchen with the door open so able to see out!
Half hour tops or I know they get bored with her and their attention lapses, and FWIW accidents can happen even with a supervising parent!
I was out the other day with the little one, she was playing on the skateboard with the big one and a car came quite fast round the corner, I was about a metre away and shouted for them to move, but if he'd been going any faster it could have been an accident, and I was right there!
Just another viewpoint, and it doesnt sound it in this case, but things not always as they seem !

Internal injuries are called that for a reason, hence why the child needed to go to hosptial

I would never let my 3 year old out if I lived in a neighborhood, but we live in the country, and I often let DS (3.11) and DD (2.7) out in the back garden; it is gated, and I can see them from the kitchen, so they will happily muck around while I make lunch/tea. But, if we lived on a busy-ish street...no way.

The garden is fine it's usually made safe and locked and doesn't have other people driving through it at speeds we can't control!!!

I am more shocked at all of your attitude to a 3 yr old being knocked down by a car and it not being serious.

The paramedic was completely unprofessional saying anything and an ambulance was absolutley required.

The rest of the tale about the family is completely unnecesary.

it's serious a 3 YO was knocked down but I think the point is the 3YO should never have been out there in the first place!!!

my DS was found outside with his dad when he was 3 and I went balistic - 3YO's do NOT play out alone on their own - it takes about 30 seconds to snatch a child much less have a car accident.

But we don't know whyt eh 3 yo was outside and where it was. Was it a driveway? Pavement? Cul de sac? Had he run out of the house? Were his siblings there?

Agree that 3yo shouldn't play outside on their own but that doesn't mean that the child and parents shoudl get no sympathy ffs.

YANBU to think that a 3 yr old shouldn't be out playing unsupervised. My 4 yr old isn't allowed to play out. I couldn't trust him to stay off the road or wander off.

Ok let me clear up a few things
I saw it he barely got touched by the car it didnt knock him over it merely bumped him, his brothers have shoved him over harder he was stood and remained stood during and after the bump.

4x4 pulled to one side to let another pass child stepped behind the car, as it pulled away it rolled slightly. The child then went inside the house. The man didnt even know it has happened.

Children were in their garden, the road, the neighbours garden and I'm told that someone fetched them back from near the main ring road.

My point is WHERE WERE THE PARENTS????

The rides under construction are fenced off as per health and safety. I'm not saying for them to play on them, but the great big GREEN GRASS PARK area is great for them to play football run free safely well safer.

Those children deserve better, the poor mites are out half dressed sometimes, its not all their fault they are the way they are they havent been taught any better.

well tell Children's Social Care, with all of you neighbours, put your money where your mouth is. If you think the kids are neglected, then take responsibility.

Childrens Social services have been contacted.

I forgot to mention that the child was back out on the street hours later with his siblings running aroud cars laughing and is doing the same thing this morning.
