this has got me so mad, a neighbour's son got bumped by a car, it was nothing at all. car pulled over to let another pass and reversed slightly to drive off and bumped a 3 year old boy. He didnt know he had even touched him.
Kid gets up and goes home, mother comes out cuddling the child who is now crying. driver has been allerted to the accident and goes to talk to the mother who is back indoors. Father sais to man go away man goes to police station to report the accident.

Then a Traffic Car with female officer arrives followed by one ambulance and one paramedic car. Way to go wasting my taxes
DH spoke to paramedic and there was nothing wrong with the child but mother insisted they were taken to hospital, paramedic was disgusted with the state of the house and the fact that her other three children were running around in the middle of the road still
Many of the neighbours says it was only a matter of time before one of them got hit by a car

No win no fee me thinks!!!

Neither work both are able to, the kids are running in and out of everybodys gardens, I have seen them running around swinging the garden rake (god help em if it had of caught my car) two of the boys were kicking their football against DH coach and damaged it, a bit later the sister of the boys came to the door to tell us what they had done, when confronted mother had a massive row with us saying it wasnt her kids!

We are lucky enough to have a park with a play area currently under construction but nearly done, so why cant they play there instead of on the busy streets!

At three y/o is he too young to be running around the streets on his own?

Ah, sorry, didn't spot the AIBU by stealth seeing as how you said the child got up after being bumped.

Anyway, nto sure what you are trying to prove by thsi thread apart from a mass judging session.

No-one is saying that YABU and a 3 yo shoudl be allowed on teh street, and it is highly unliekly anyone would.

If a child that young is playing unsupervised and in danger and NO adult is prepared to return the child to safety, then call the Police. They will act
when other 'responsible adults' won't.

Well hang on there are 2 very distinct issues here
1 Standard of parenting, cleanliness of house etc, parents not working.
2 A driver has reversed into a pedestrian.No 1 doesn't mitigate number 2.

And FYI it is standard practice to send out an ambulance to each and every RTA whether needed/wanted or not.It doesn't cost the taxpayer anything because it is always billed to the drivers insurance co (doesn't affect no claims). The mum was right to get her child checked out at the hospital.

we live on a very quiet street with a small grassy area out the front and my ds has been allowed to play out for short periods since he was 3
i kept an eye on him but he was out there without an adult (usually with other children)
he was very sensible and would never go near the road
i've been ranted at on here before about this but not all children are the same and not all streets are the same

if however a child is at risk or being neglected then you know what to do
