It's odd isn't it?
Meet Anna, Alan and Aliteration.
Why?

My DH's ex has 3 children whose names all start with J... and they now have a dog whose name also starts with J.

Just shows a lack of imagination I think, as does naming your children after yourself

bumpsoon · 26/04/2010 15:13

my three have the same first letter , i have to admit i did sort of shudder when dh chose ds2's name ,my only consolation is none of them will be at the same school at the same time ,such is the age range

bumpsoon · 26/04/2010 15:21

mind you i know someone whose childrens names all end the same .

Mylittlebubble · 26/04/2010 15:30

My dad and his 4 siblings have the same initial and I always quite liked it thought it was sweet.

Lonnie · 26/04/2010 15:36

Ive read this thread with interest... (and discovered the Olivers are expecting another child in September wonder if they will go with William if its a boy - waits to see if anyone gets this one)

I dont have a issue w same initials dd1 has same initial and by chance same initial middle name as MIL (but dd1 then has a 2nd mn Mil doesnt have) Mil loved it when I was expecting dd2 I did for a while look for names that began with PH for the next one as I adore how that looks but I didnt find any I liked..

I dont mind themed names like the Olivers Poppy and Daisy are sweet names I am not mad on Petal (and Rainbow is just mean)

Im less keen on rhyming names dd1 watches a childrens programme When Timothy goes to school there is a Doris with older brothers called Moris Boris and Noris that completely goes over the top with me.. (yes I realise its fiction)

I dont mind people naming their children after them I love dh's name (Nicholas) but I realised He had a point when he said " we will have a Nick Jnr" even I couldnt do that to a child but I still love the name. All of my childre for their middle names have been named after family members we loved dd1 after my paternal grandma and Mil dd2 after sil ds after late Bil and dd3 after my step grandfather to me thats special and wonderful

I dont care for off the wall names like entire football teams I have 4 names for all my children and thats hard to get onto name lines.. nor do I care for stuff like Cinderella or Chardonnay I just think thats a name to lumber your child with

Fleecy · 26/04/2010 15:56

My two have the same initial - not planned really, but when DS was born, the only boys name we both loved started with the same letter as DD's name.

It doesn't bother me if people think it's a bit strange or even twee - but having said that, I wouldn't use the same initial again if we had a third as it would feel contrived.

Missus84 · 26/04/2010 16:00

Me and my sister both have the same initial, but my brother's name starts with something else. Don't think it was deliberate though, they were just the names my parents liked.

My dad has 4 sisters and two of them have names starting with the same letter.

timmyinatizzy · 26/04/2010 16:06

My ex PIL had neighbours whose kids all began with P

Paul
Paula
Pamela

I was a bit [shocked] when the third wasn't called Pauline!!

bronze · 26/04/2010 16:14

Lonnie ~William would probably be a horror
I kind of like how it would fit without making him look like a knob though

maduggar · 26/04/2010 17:28

My DDs names start with teh same letter. And no, im not really a Duggar

princessx2 · 26/04/2010 17:29

Both my girls have the same first and last letter to their names - Emma and Eva. I didn't mean for it to be like that - I just really fell in love with the name Eva before she was born and had a meaning for me.

Doesn't make any difference to me - I have had comments that if I have another will I move on to F, but I'm not having any more so a simple no is the answer!

MiladyDeWinter · 26/04/2010 17:30

Have you never read "Ballet Shoes"?

Pauline, Petrova and Posy Fossil. One set of name tapes for all

MiladyDeWinter · 26/04/2010 17:31

Saying, "P. Fossil" obviously.

maduggar · 26/04/2010 17:33

I do that i buy one set of name tags with just the girls initial and surname on. Makes life very easy when passing down clothes!!

aendr · 26/04/2010 19:50

My husband, I and my son all have the same first initial (though I have kept my maiden surname). But my husband has 3 initials and goes by his middle name, and my son and I have 4. We're not sure what to do about the DD we're expecting, whether she'll feel left out of not having the same initial or feel special if we go with a different initial.

On the cheap nametapes front, if you only have 2 children then you can do what my mother did for my older siblings. AA Surname BB (where AA and BB are their initials). Just fold over the end you don't want. On the other hand, the P. Fossil style means you don't have to do any different sewing, not that I will be bothered to change DS's nametapes for DD's when she inherits his clothes - it's an unusual enough surname that I think nursery/teachers/youth leaders will cope.

helyg · 26/04/2010 19:52

DH and I have the same initials. In fact we had the same initials before we were married as my maiden name starts with the same letter as my married name.

So we immediately ruled out calling the DC anything with the same initials as it would be far too twee confusing!

trumpton · 26/04/2010 20:00

First 2 had J as initial letter ( boy then girl ) 3rd had A .So name tapes were ordered " J XXXXX A " Boy had surname only girl J XXXX and last had XXXX A. Still got some left !!1 Mostly used indelible marker to write on clothes. must admit that Joseph was our name of choice if 3rd had been boy so nearly had 3 with same initial.

RunawayWife · 26/04/2010 20:03

My sisters ex husbands sirname was Morris and he really and truly wanted to call his children Horace, Doris and Boris, I kid you not.
Thank God they got divorced before they had children

lifeissweet · 26/04/2010 20:13

I teach a girl and her two sisters have the same name, but with one letter different. Something along the lines of

savannah
savennah and
savonnah

Only obviously not that name. Her parents could clearly only makeup choose one name and decided to stick with it.

The younger too have equally ridiculous nicknames because 'otherwise it's really confusing at home'

lifeissweet · 26/04/2010 20:13

too? too?!! meant two

FleeBee · 26/04/2010 21:34

My nephews are named Leon and Dion.

When DD2 was born I really wanted to call her a name starting with P. But DH wouldn't agree as DD1's name starts with P but her name is a Ph so pronounced as an F so didn't think there would be much confusion. I still prefer my P name to the name we did give DD2. Oh well.

SoMuchToBits · 26/04/2010 22:23

Runawaywife in my family tree there are 2 brothers called Wallace and Horace, but sadly their brother was Elbridge! And they didn't have a rhyming surname. However they did have a 1st cousin caled Maurice, and another 1st cousin called Doris....

fernie3 · 26/04/2010 22:32

I have two children with the initial "J" one girl one boy - hopefully that will cut down on confusion! I also have one "B" and one who is a provisional "E" but not certain until she pops out and we decide she suits it . I dont see the problem!

GlastonburyGoddess · 26/04/2010 22:37

Two boys both with names beginning with Al, not done deliberately, ds2 born and named on sight rather than his name being preplanned. didnt think that might have a problem when theyre older if they both get shortened to al, ah well nevermind, one of those things.

DreamsInBinary · 26/04/2010 22:39

My two children share an initial, which I'm not thrilled about, but I thought it important to give them each my favourite name (and the ones that fitted after they were born).

Choosing less loved names in an attempt to mismatch seemed ridiculous.
