WIBU?

Had a terribly bad day and decided to take it out on a driver who was lacking indicators.

He turned left at a roundabout, didn't indicate.

He turned left into my street, didn't indicate.

He pulled over to park on the kerb, didn't indicate.

So as I drove past I stopped as his window was open.

WIBU to shout "are your indicators not working?" he replied saying "don't know" and I informed him he hadn't used them since we'd been on Durham Road. He just looked at me a bit confused. (probably freaked out by a mad cow)

yanbu

Mrs1GeneGenie · 23/04/2010 19:52

Love it!

TrillianAstra · 23/04/2010 19:52

YANBU. If someone is not using their indicatros correctly (or if they are broken) they need to be told.

juneybean · 23/04/2010 19:53

He really did get the brunt of my day haha, if only I could now take that energy and shout at the people I work with!!!

YANBU! As a full time pedestrian, one of my favourite pastimes is shouting "I am not psychic, use your bloody indicators!" at car drivers who don't indicate before turning into the road I have decided to cross on the basis they appeared to be going straight on.

Fuckers.

SlartyBartFast · 23/04/2010 20:02

i too get annoyed when people dont use their indicators.
and taxi drivers, for just driving basically.

Alouiseg · 23/04/2010 20:02

YADNBU.

I would have done the same bad day or not.

YANBU and you are now my hero.

juneybean · 23/04/2010 20:18

Hahah yay!! Dare I even add that he had a red L plate even though he was the only one in the car? I thought it was illegal to keep it on when it wasn't necessary...

OP posts:
GoldenSnitch · 23/04/2010 20:25

Ooh, L plates on a car without a learner in it really wind me up for some reason. I thought it was illegal too.

YWNBU

Swanky · 23/04/2010 20:36

L plates with no learner are illegal - and YANBU re the indicators. I used to joke there was a by-law here to say they are not required, its so poor for them!

TrillianAstra · 23/04/2010 20:44

L plates with no learner are illegal? Really? How is that practical? And why would it be illegal? When I was learning we had stick-on L-plates and I obviously didn't drive the car all the time as it was my mum's car.

GoldenSnitch · 23/04/2010 20:50

That's why I never got stick on L plates. Seemed like an expensive option when you have to take them off whenever someone else used the car.

I bought magnetic ones so they could be popped on and off whenever I was/wasn't driving while I learnt.

GoldenSnitch · 23/04/2010 20:53

Here it says "You can purchase 'L' plates which can be tied to the front and rear bumpers of your vehicle or magnetic plates which can be removed if the car is being used by a fully licensed driver."

Doesn't say why it's illegal though...I would guess because it's misleading other road users

GoldenSnitch · 23/04/2010 20:56

Direct gov says "[Laws MV(DL)R reg 16 & RTA 1988 sect 87]

Vehicles. Any vehicle driven by a learner MUST display red L plates. In Wales, either red D plates, red L plates, or both, can be used. Plates MUST conform to legal specifications and MUST be clearly visible to others from in front of the vehicle and from behind. Plates should be removed or covered when not being driven by a learner (except on driving school vehicles)."

bluecardi · 23/04/2010 21:02

You wnbu. I was beeped at as I let someone cross the road in slow moving traffic & then beeped at as I stopped to turn off the main road - wtf - I can't pull into oncoming traffic.

bluecardi · 23/04/2010 21:04

Should add indicated I was turning as well & was only a few seconds wait for those behind!

outnumbered2to1 · 23/04/2010 21:20

i have a tendancy to yell "you paid all that money for your car and they've forgotten to put indicators on it!!!!!"

i also have a sticker on my car that says "no i don't f*ing yield for taxis"

juneybean · 24/04/2010 16:38

It was quite a fancy car as well, maybe they were an optional extra and he opted for the iPod jack instead?

JaneS · 24/04/2010 16:45

I wish I had the balls to do this. Nice. Nearly got run over by some idiot yesterday who swung into the side-street without indicating and was most surprised that the pedestrian on the pavement had stepped out in front of him at the same time. [grr]

juneybean · 24/04/2010 16:51

Seriously, usually I'm this meek thing and wouldn't say boo to a goose, but he really boiled my piss haha.

OP posts:
violethill · 24/04/2010 17:12

YANBU - I have done this too, as a pedestrian, if I'm crossing a road and some idiot just turns in front of me without indicating. I usually point at the indicator in exaggerated fashion, and mouth "Not working!"

SeaTrek · 24/04/2010 18:12

YANBU

Durham Road! I used to live in Chester-le-street and I have a friend who lives there. Silly to be excited about that I know, but I am a long way from there now!
