To HATE going to the hairdressers?

Is it just me? I thought women were mean't to find the whole experience pampering & relaxing- I just come out wanting to kill someone!!! Why is what I want done always wrong? I either need it cut slightly shorter/longer than they want it, or want the wrong type of fringe. All I want to do is have it cut the length I want it with a few layers & a front bit that pushes back, but oh no. I have to have straigteners, backcombing, hairspray & a full discussion on why what I want is not trendy!

AIBU?
Maybe I should go to the barbers next time

Sorry, needed a rant before I explode!

I hate going too...it's not so much not cutting it right, it's the mindless chat I can't be bothered with.....just shut up and cut my hair!!

southeastastra · 23/04/2010 15:15

they don't do that in mine, i'm in and out and they just rough dry it, mostly i don't even have it washed. shop around for one you like!

Ivykaty44 · 23/04/2010 15:16

I go to the barbers - he swears a lot but it a good cut going later...

Mouseface · 23/04/2010 15:16

Find a new hairdresser.

It took me ages before I found a fab one. Then we relocated to a new area but the one in our tiny village is great.

She listens and always cuts my hair (v short, see profile) just how I like.

minibmw2010 · 23/04/2010 15:17

I'm with you here ... I have very very long hair, and generally it needs cutting every 8 weeks or so, and usually I hate the outcome, i.e. I'm getting it cut because I know it needs it to be healthy, but the layers end up too short, etc. My general hairdresser also takes ages and I'm not a real talker in the hairdressers at the best of time, so its a kind of "just get on with it and hurry up" while I smile tightly at her in the window ...

pugsandseals · 23/04/2010 15:19

I just wish I lived near center parcs [spoilt brat emoticon!]

That was the only haircut I've actually enjoyed- so relaxing too with that spa music & being the only customer around!

I'm with you - hate the experience and put it off far too often even to the point where my hair gets out of shape

Relaxing? Waiting for ages (they're always running late), trying - usually unsuccessfully - to explain what I want, the mindless chatting you're supposed to engage in. Not to mention the whole rigmarole of wash, condition, cut, blow-dry (which takes forever) and straightening... I consider it anything but relaxing.

pippop1 · 23/04/2010 15:54

I have my hair cut by a man, the owner of the salon, and he only talks if you talk to him.

CMOTdibbler · 23/04/2010 15:55

Me too. I have very long hair, and they never do it right. I haven't been to the hairdressers since last June tbh - have done the front of my hair MN Haircut stylee, and am v pleased with the resulting fringe/layers round the front

EndangeredSpecies · 23/04/2010 16:03

Definitely not BU. Cannot do mindless chatter, my hair only looks good for 10 minutes after I've been for my three-monthly visit so perhaps I should just save the money and resign myself to looking like a mop head.

diddl · 23/04/2010 16:04

I loathe it-hot & smelly & they "faff" too much.
Used to have someone come to house which was OK as she would just spray to wet & cut.
Do it myself now.

MiladyDeWinter · 23/04/2010 16:06

YANBU I hate it too. DH likes to treat me but honestly if I am going to have the luxury of three hours away from DS then I would prefer to be not stuck in a chair under bright lights with all the noise.

Now I go to someone who works from her house, it's lovely and all finished in an hour and a half (and I can nip out for a smoke, too )

Molesworth · 23/04/2010 16:07

Hate it too. They always mess up my hair and I detest the inane chitchat. Ugh!

Whoamireally · 23/04/2010 16:07

I loathe it too - the time, the cost, fitting it in around childcare, having to make polite conversation when the sudden shock to the system of not being at the beck and call of two kids just makes you want to doze off...list is endless.

I don't help my cause by having expensive blonde highlights that take ages to put in as my hair is so thick.

drloves8 · 23/04/2010 16:07

i hate it too, have put off going for higlights that long that i now an sporting the german shepard look.need to get done or will soon be an afgan hound look.

expatinscotland · 23/04/2010 16:08

YANBU.

I do all my hair myself because I think hairdressers charge way too much.

lovemyOJ · 23/04/2010 16:16

take in a picture?

sorry but if you said to me 'All I want to do is have it cut the length I want it with a few layers & a front bit that pushes back'

would not be helpful to me in a salon. Show them what length you want it physically use your hands and point to the exact length you want, if you say to them and inch your inch is probably not their inch, on lady whos hair i cut said she wanted an inch cut off and when i asked her to show me how much she wanted off she actually wanted 3inch (her husband must think hes very well endowed if thats what she thinks an inch is!)

show her how short you want the layers to be.

a front bit that pushes back?????????
to be fair if you came into a salon and asked for that i wouldnt have a clue what you were on about BUT i would then sit with you and discuss what you mean so i was absoluty clear before i started to cut you hair and if i was still stuck id get pictures our to get you to show me what you mean.

were not mind readers so visual aids really help.

when i first started hairdressing i hated it when cleint bought in a picture as i thought god they want me to re create that, but now with years of experience i prefere it because even if you dont want THAT hair style you just like the was the fringe is or the length of the layers are or way its shaped around the face its really helpful as alot of cliets say the want their hair layered when really they mean shaped around the face, the say they want it featherd which means shaped around the face but really they wanted the layers a bit choppy.

its more about communicating, if you have a good hairdresser they will ask you million and one questions before they begin to make sure that you are both on the same wavelength, saying that you could get a hairdresser that does that and they are still shit!

sorry its not really helpful, its a case of trying to find some one that you like and sticking with them.

DramaInPyjamas · 23/04/2010 16:16

I have a bit of a phobia about them. I've cut my own hair at home for years.
But I do take the kids to the barbers to get theirs done, don't trust myself to give them DIY haircuts!

oh and a Wash cut and blowdry shouldnt take longer than 45minutes, anything less than 30min will result in a shit hair cut anything longer than that and they are fannying around!

i dont recommend a wet or dry cut as you wont get the same results as a Cut and blowdry.

unless of course your having a complete restyle then id expect it to take longer

diddl · 23/04/2010 16:24

Maybe that´s why I don´t go anymore then-cut & blowdry?
No thanks, all I want is a trim.

cyb · 23/04/2010 16:24

I find the whole process of going to the hairdresser very stressful, as I never know how my barnet is going to turn out. Its HUGE my hair and when they blow dry it it expands to about 3 times its size. I hate the fixed rictus grin I adopt when they give me some horror hairstyle.

i have to sleep on it to deflate it and see what cut they really gave me

Molesworth · 23/04/2010 16:25

God yes, the massive bouffant cyb, I hate it hate it hate it. I have very thick hair and have never found a hairdresser who understands it.
