In thinking Sophie Dahl is a cheesehead ??

Grrr, irritating, she must have used the word 'melencholy' more times in the past 20 minutes than most people use in a lifetime.

And does she really think people believe somebody as skinny as she is scoffs vast quantities of cream and bread fried in chicken fat more than once in a lifetime

I won't watch it. She clearly doesn't eat what she cooks. It's all just smoke and mirrors to sell books and give her another career strand.
The lovely Ms Dahl chowing down on cupcakes, tearing into a fresh baked loaf, slurping up her risotto, mangia her pasta - NONE OF THESE THINGS HAPPEN...
She hasn't eaten a carb since the day she decided to be a thin model.

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 14/04/2010 09:31

We do tend to use food as terms of insult for some reason ie muffin muncher,

cracker brain,

spud,

cheesehead,

coconut,

stinky kipper etc

Dunno why tho

OMG I started the same thread and I got bollocked. And it wasn't even in AIBU I don't think!
YANBU.

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 14/04/2010 09:55

She is v annoying but the food she cooks looks/sounds lovely! I am a bit tempted to buy her book but then I do have a bit of a thing about recipe books

SeaTrek · 14/04/2010 09:59

WOW - I am impressed that you managed to watch it for 20 mins+.

I watched it for about 1 min, before turning over.

I thought it was so cringeworthy. Absolutely awful (I concede I only managed 1 min - she was stirring chocolate sauce to over icecream and then wondered through London talking c*). I would describe it as a comedy stetch of Nigella, that wasn't funny at all.

traceybath · 14/04/2010 10:03

I also spent a lot of time staring at her engagement ring - its massive!

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 14/04/2010 10:06

I sat open mouthed in shock and despair that anybody can be paid for uttering bullshit drivel.

She should at least cook food she eats !!

I then switched over to Heston to watch him build an edible house. Ah, good old Heston won't let me down, he'd more likely push a kid over in the snow than cry at his misfortune !

YANBU, this programme makes my skin crawl! The first one I saw, she stuffed her face with cake and then skipped off to a vintage shop to buy a trinket to 'remember the day' - WTF?

DP is obsessed with it/her though and bought the book (!) - he made some cheesy baked onion and mushroom thing from it last night and it was yum. But still.

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 14/04/2010 10:07

I noticed that too, bet she spends hours poking bits of food out of it !!

I managed to watch this for all of 2 minutes last night and was completely baffled by the references to Eeyore - I was not sure if I was watching a cookery show or a children's programme?? I came to the conclusion it was neither and switched over.

ProfYaffle · 14/04/2010 10:18

McDreamy - don't bother buying the book, give it 6 months and the charity shops will be full of them .....

AstronomyDomine · 14/04/2010 10:21

I like her - she's so bad she's fab! Rather watch her poetic nonsense than Heston knobhead Blumenthal any day of the week!

MissWooWoo · 14/04/2010 10:26

well I think she's lovely and am feeling rather protective of her in a good old fashioned mumsy way. yes, it's all very contrived but awwwww good luck to her I say. The girl thinks that "foraging" for food means taking a trip to Borough Market (as fabulous as it is it is not foraging) - you can't get cross with someone like that can you? It's all expensive silk tea dresses and wellies, vintage china cups and lace and a dollop of 6th form english lit mixed with yummy but very easy to make food. It's Nigella for the (younger) beautiful people.

It was a bit up it's own arse but can't bring myself to put her down for it.

Do wish they could have come up with some alternative ways of saying melancholy though

BambinolovesBeccie · 14/04/2010 10:36

She reminds me of a Persian cat, all pinched nose and huge eyes - albeit a skinny version. She does come across as very boring but did make me think that I'd quite like bubble and squeak one day soon.

I did laugh at the chocolate most chocolately biggest chocolate thing - which turned out to be chocolate sauce.

tethersend · 14/04/2010 10:36

Someone told me I looked like her the other day.

I was extremely chuffed, although I have to say, reading this thread has burst my bubble somewhat.

Sort of like a child in the snow with one wellie with a hole in and then it starts raining, but raining raisins or actual diamonds and then the snow melts and the wellie falls off anyway. Or something.

SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 14/04/2010 10:38

oi, leave heston out of it !! Least he dosent needlessly prattle on about kids in snow and bloody Eeyore.

And in a desperate attempt to kill time, films himself moodily ambling around shops buying trinkets to remind himself of his cheese on sodding toast !!

OP posts:
SwissCheeseIsHolyCheesus · 14/04/2010 10:41

And don't get me started on the license fee paying for this crap !!

I like Sophie Dahl. And I really love cooking programmes.

I couldn't watch this guff though, it is painful and tedious. The person responsible needs to go on a training course in how to do their job better.

displayuntilbestbefore · 14/04/2010 10:46

Do you mean none of you watched the show and then thought
"Oh gosh, quick darling, let's get our pinnies on and rustle up our own utopia in a bowl"

?

taffetacat · 14/04/2010 10:46

Actually DD (3.8) has hit the nail on the head.

She looks like this

taffetacat · 14/04/2010 10:54

Oh sorry tethersend I didn't see your post.

I am only joking about her looks in a silly way, because she is so implausibly beautiful.
