To want to buy my DD some slighter more expensive clothes?

I only mean Zara/Next as opposed to Asda/Tesco/Matalan/Primark!

Its not like the things break the bank is it? Its all a matter of choice....but one of my friends only ever buys from the cheaper stores and I am sorry but you can tell.

We are far from wealthy, they probably have more disposable income than us, but I buy fewer, better quality items I guess.

Spent the morning with a friend who made lots of digs - can you tell

I would get some nicer friends

TootaLaFruit · 13/04/2010 16:29

She's jealous. Ignore the remarks, sit back, and admire your dd's pretty clothes.

CheerfulYank · 13/04/2010 16:34

I have a friend who's the same-her DC have tons of clothes but they aren't of very good quality. I'd rather DS had a handful of MiniBoden shirts that would last rather than a closetful of Wal-Mart clothes that would lose their shape and fade after a wash or two. She always makes comments "Oh I see your DS is wearing BabyGap in his pictures again..." and then she'll sing song "spoiilled..." which is beyond irritating. I actually get a lot of his things new from eBay, and I do go with the brand names b/c I know that they'll look good for a longer time.

llareggub · 13/04/2010 16:34

I am lost for words.

ABitBatty · 13/04/2010 16:35

I wouldn't spend my time with someone who made digs about my kids clothes get yourself some new pals!

hophophippidtyhop · 13/04/2010 16:36

Next time they make snide remarks, tell them you bought it off ebay for 99p! That'll stop 'em !

The thing that bothers me is, I would never say anything to my friends about their children's clothes because I don't care! I choose to dress/feed/raise my DS one way, and they might choose another, and it's all well and good. As long as you aren't outright harming your DCs I couldn't care less. But when people don't give me the same courtesy (as in the above friend), that's when I get irritated.

usualsuspect · 13/04/2010 16:39

That poor baby in its primark clothes ..call the SS

SusieCarmichael · 13/04/2010 16:42

i get stuff from everywhere, jeans usually next or zara, dd has loads of cardis from primark at the mo and they are lovely she actually has a pair of jeans from primark that everyone is commenting on and saying 'oh are they next?' so i think it depends WHAT you buy rather than where from.. i NEVER buy t shirt tops with slogans so sometimes have to get those in zara etc

i live right next to a next clearance store though so is cheap and easy to buy next

oh, the best one for little girls is h&m though, cheap but nice and no slogans! in fact if i'm honest she has loads from h&m

mrspear · 13/04/2010 16:42

I tried Primark for 0 - 3 months and you could tell - t-shirts had no buttons / envelope neck so you have to stretch to get on and were very thin / joggers - waists went. Also tried ASDA sleep suits - much smaller in length than Next so grew out quickly plus again very thin. I said to OH that is quality rather than quantity next time. Have some lovely t-shirts and joggers from Marks, jeans and sleep suits from Next.
However I also found some good quality t-shirts from QS of all places!

So i agree and ignore your friend - she has the green eye monster!

Swanky · 13/04/2010 16:43

usualsuspect I don't care what anyone wears - I buy MY clothes from supermarkets (wish I could fit in Primark ) but I find the adult clothes are much better quality if you pick and choose and mix and match....plus they don't get as much wear and tear.

I wish she didn't comment EVERY time and ask where I get things from. DD had a pair of sandals that were £17 on today and even THAT got a comment

Maybe you guys are right about the friend, not the clothes. We get on really well otherwise tho - maybe I ought to only see her without my children

ooojimaflip · 13/04/2010 16:43

Tell her to fuck off.

OrmRenewed · 13/04/2010 16:44

Ooookay. It's up to you of course but apart from the odd 'special' thing I don't see any point in spending money on 'label's for children. They grow out of them before they get a chance to trash them.

And the comment "Its not like the things break the bank is it suggests that you only have the one child. Try affording brand new Next for 3 DC.

pigletmania · 13/04/2010 16:44

At the end of the day the child cannot tell the difference tbh, i need loads of clothes for dd as she is always spilling and getting her clothes really dirty. If i got crapGap or Mini Boden it would cost the earth, and sometimes you just cant tell the difference. I bought a lovely ITNG outfit for dd from Asda £14 whereas a similar one in Next was £22 wtf, it looked nearly the same and bet it was the same quality.

Swanky · 13/04/2010 16:45

SusieCarmichael I think we have a particularly poor Primark here sadly as I know friends elsewhere have got some fabulous things from their local ones!

OP posts:
OrmRenewed · 13/04/2010 16:45

Not that it has got anything to do with your friends. Are they joking perhaps?

shesdrivingmecrazy · 13/04/2010 16:45

Zara is a rip off though, considering the shit quality of the clothes. It's basically H&M stuff at 4 x the price.

SusieCarmichael · 13/04/2010 16:47

we just got a big shiny new one(bristol) but you do have to pick and chose what you buy like i said

Swanky · 13/04/2010 16:47

ormrenewed I do mean the odd thing, I should have said that - I also have 3 children one of whom is a drain on my bank balance teenager! She had a Zara top on with H&M cropped leggings and a BOGOF Pumpkin Patch sale cardigan...the cheaper items were ignored tho

I like them to have a few nicer bits and I can fill in the gaps with cheaper bits and bobs now.

OP posts:
Swanky · 13/04/2010 16:49

ormrenewed sadly not joking - maybe jealous? I don't have a very jealousy-inducing life tho really

OP posts:
Swanky · 13/04/2010 16:50

shesdrivingmecrazy It can be very expensive in Zara, I agree, hence why she only got 2 things from there and things that are reasonably priced not OTT.

OP posts:
OrmRenewed · 13/04/2010 16:51

Oops. You have 3 DC? Apologies

RedRedWine1980 · 13/04/2010 16:52

but one of my friends only ever buys from the cheaper stores and I am sorry but you can tell.

Wow you sound like a lovely circle of backbiting bitter friends- im so envious!

Swanky · 13/04/2010 16:53

cheerfulYank omg thats so rude! I would definitelay say something if that were the case!! Esp as I tend to only buy my DC clothing 2-3 times a year!
