was getting on the train with peter and the kids and the doors shut before i could get on with soph.

all i saw when the train left was 3 screaming girls and peter trying to comfort them/

didnt have a mobile with me, so spoke to guard who got me clearence for the other end as trasvelling without a ticket, due to peter having all the tickets in his pocket, phone my MIL who phoned peter to tell him i was ok and would be home an hour after them.

Peter has fed and watered the girls, mopped up their tears.

usually i dont travel with peter, as he is at work and its just me and the kids.

misdee · 12/04/2010 19:30

it has prompted an 'what to do if youever get seperated from your parents' talk to the kids though. and we have a plan in place.

That's not good . What station was it (I know you are quite close to me - we're on the Beds/Herts border).

MaureenMLove · 12/04/2010 19:31

Aw, you poor thing! That is one of my worst fears.

Glad everone is safely together again.

Was this an overground train? Aren't conductors supposed to check the door are clear before closing them? Utter madness that this could happen!

misdee · 12/04/2010 19:32

stevenage. going to wgc.

guard bloke was utterly useless. didnt seem to care less.

OP posts:
misdee · 12/04/2010 19:33

yes an overground one. i was more worried about one of the kids trying to keep the doors open and losing their hands.

Hi, my DH is a train driver and i know from him telling me everything this should of never happend!!!

The conductors are suppose to check make sure that the door are clear then signal to the driver .. that is really bad and very scsry.

misdee · 12/04/2010 19:38

my friends hubby is a train driver, will messge her in a bit, and then fire off a stroppy email to train company.

was so lucky dh was with me, and dd2 didnt hurt herself trying to hold the door open when it started to close.

I saw a child of about 8/9 jump on a tube as the doors shut leaving parents on the station

I have always told my children in the event of this sort of thing happening get off at the next station and wait for me find a guard or ticket office person and tell them.

Hope your little ones are over the shock.

Snooks14 · 12/04/2010 19:43

That really is one of your worst nightmares isn't it - thank goodness your hubby was with you. You definetly need to make sure you complain as this sort of thing should not be happening.

phoenixflower · 12/04/2010 19:46

YANBU, that is awful Misdee. That is always one of my fears, that the chn would get on train and it go withot me. Thank goodness your DH was with the girls, these train companies can be so careless.

I am around your neck of the woods so will be extra careful if I am ever at the station with the chn.

misdee · 12/04/2010 19:58

runawaywife that is the plan we now have in case this ever happens again and the girls dont have an adult with them, as usually travel alone.

I fucking knew it was First Crapital Connect before I read to the end of the OP.

And I knew it would be Stevenage!

Typical of them.

Complain, complain, complain- who knows what could have happened to children separated from their parent? Don't be fobbed off.

cornsilk · 12/04/2010 20:19

tram driver once attempted to shut doors as dh was getting on with trolley with ds2 in (metrolink) so the trolley could have been trapped in the doors. When I rang to complain the woman practically called me a liar. She said it couldn't have happened as I said, due to the alarm going off when the door closes. Then after actually investigating it she found the alarm wasn't working on that occasion. She offered me tickets as compensation which never arrived.

AnyFucker · 12/04/2010 20:29

someone I used to work had something horrid happen to her

her toddler (no more than 3yo) was on the train while she struggled with buggy/shopping and it set off without her !!

thankfully a kind lady saw what happened and looked after dc while she ran to the office for someone to intercept at the other end

she was utterly traumatised for weeks !

As previous posters have said - shouldn't have happened. Guard doesn't appear to have been doing his job properly which has serious safety implications as well as anything else. Complain very loudly.

misdee · 12/04/2010 22:03

wasn't sure if i was overreacting.

am getting more annoyed about it but am also laughing as appaently dd3 was more upset about the doughnuts in my bag which i had promised they could have on the way home lol.

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 12/04/2010 22:15

Tethersend that is fantastic!

OP that is terrible- the implications of this are pretty shocking, thank goodness all children involved were with adults. Complain very, very loudly, with set timeframes for replies and investigations. If these are not met, complain higher and louder!

Glad everyone was ok- luck rather than judgement on the train manager's part. Could have all been very different if your DH wasn't there.

misdee · 12/04/2010 22:22

will have to find out who to contact. is it FCC or GNER? who owns stevenage station?

OP posts:
tethersend · 12/04/2010 22:33

Depends on the train you were getting on- as it stops at WGC, I assume it's FCC.

Station staff are employed by FCC I believe.
