to think that the new Pret A Manger coronation chicken sandwich is the BEST sandwich you can buy ready prepped from a shop by a long long chalk?

Thank God I don't work in town anymore. I would be size of house. They really are yum, honestly.

YANBU, coronation chicken is officially THE best sandwich filling ever.

Although I think you need to try the Philpotts (suspect only small local northern chain so you may not be able to) coronation chicken with homemade Indian chutney and gourmet salad - now THAT is a sandwich worthy of a thread...

tasmaniandevilchaser · 08/04/2010 17:49

They used to do one, but I thought they'd stopped it. It's made my day to know it's back, thanks!

chachachachacha · 08/04/2010 17:52

I mourn the loss of their black pepper chicken bloomer complete with pine nuts...mmmmmm

oh, and that there is no pret in my town!

BunnyLebowski · 08/04/2010 17:55

Oh emsyj you've just reminded me of my £5 a day Philpott's habit when I used to work for a law firm in town.

I ended up skint and decidedly porky but Oh My God their buttys are gooooooooood

Re: the coronation chicken thing I bought a tub of sandwich filler from Co-Op last week and when I got home and read the side it told me there were PEACHES in it. Boke. Sultanas I can handle, peaches I cannot. It went in the bin.

Are there peaches in the Pret sandwich?

Fimbo · 08/04/2010 17:56

Their saltbeef sandwich with gherkins is gorgeous. Had it for the first time at Stansted airport at Feb half-term. I hate gherkins normally especially a la MacDonalds but they are simply divine with the beef. Had to come home and have another at our local branch

Ooh no, philpotts down south too (well, bristol anyway) Great sandwiches, tis true! Though my fave is freshly cooked bacon and egg with tommy k for brekkie. It is the business

MarthaFarquhar · 08/04/2010 17:59

ooh, Philpots...hot chicken and gruyere

emsyj · 08/04/2010 18:09

I have been very good lately and only have a Philpotts about once a month, but my god their homemade Indian chutney is gooooooooooood. And their chocolate cake - although they have been gradually making the slices smaller and smaller and they are now barely a sliver... I no longer buy it on principle.

V exciting to hear Philpotts is a nationwide phenomenon! I don't remember ever seeing one in London when we lived there, so assumed it was a northern thing. I must also give due credit to the sandwiches in Paul, particularly the cheese & ham one (with thick sliced wedges of ice cold butter all over it - mmmmmmmmmm) and the tuna one, which has the tangiest mayo saucey stuff ever, and is fantastic.

Fliight · 08/04/2010 18:11

Only if it is free range chicken...NOWHERE sells it in sarnies

Oh I think M&S might but not sure, might just be the egg ones.

Very frustrating, I loathe buying battery hen meat, it's wrong. Have to put up with nasty tesco cheese sandwich instead as it's the only veggie/non intenstive farmed option.

MayorNaze · 08/04/2010 18:12

YABU

best sandwich ever is tuna, tomato and cheese toasted ciabatta from local independent sarnie shop.

they are my treat

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/04/2010 18:23

No no no no no no no.

Oh no, we are not going to have to go through this again are we?

Fish and cheese is wrong.

Tuna melt is an abomination.

Really.

lalala tuna and cheese lalala

OTTMummA · 08/04/2010 19:47

sorry but as much as i luuuuuuuuuuuvvvvvvvvvvv pret, theeee bestest sandwich/roll, is from a wee little bakery in cliftonville SE, its roast beef with onion and coleslaw - HM obviously, i had 2 the morning of my wedding!

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/04/2010 19:47

However, is tuna melt more disgusting than my very own dh's philadelphia and tomato ketchup sandwiches?

Hmmmmm ...

MayorNaze · 08/04/2010 19:50

phlidelphia and pickle is nice.

and philadelphia and salt and vinegar crsips. not had them since student days...

badgermonkey · 08/04/2010 19:52

Fliight, I feel your pain. I can't eat battery chicken but it rules out so many sandwiches! And these shops with 3,000 permutations of sad chicken can't manage to stock ONE free-range chicken sandwich or even a bloody ham salad most of the time.

beanlet · 09/04/2010 10:46

No. Pret cheddar and pickle is THE BEST. . .. yummmmmm.

bibbitybobbityhat · 09/04/2010 15:16

Cheddar and pickle? Forgive me, but isn't that just a little bit, I dunno, ordinary?

OP posts:
MayorNaze · 09/04/2010 16:29

did i mention tuna melt???

bibbitybobbityhat · 09/04/2010 17:28

WAIT!!!! Is there a Phillpotts in London then?

I used to have the corrie chicken baguette with indian chutney from a Bristol branch, assumed it was a small local chain, am still talking about it and have not lived in Bristol for 9 years. I must know!

upahill · 09/04/2010 17:32

My fav butties (homemade that is )
