dd 2.9, is ready for new shoes

i think she needs 3 pairs at least

trainers,to go with jeans etc
shoes.to go with dresses and skirts etc
and wellies. for rainy days

and ideally 2 coats

dh thinks she doesn't need 3 different types of footwear

That would probably be ideal, one pair of shoes, wellies and one coat do-able too.

Depends on your income I suppose.

CarrieDaBabi · 02/04/2010 15:34

we can afford it.

YABU - they need at least 10 pairs of shoes and 6 coats!

Their feet grow so fast, and they're up to so much at this age (I have DD who is 3) that they do need updating and replacing more often.

My DH has no idea how many pairs of shoes our daughter has - he couldn't give a hoot so long as she has some.

CoronaAndLime · 02/04/2010 15:34

Sounds about right to me.

My Dd (2.3) has, shoes, boots, wellies, trainers and I'm going to get her sone sandles as well.

She also has a few coats (4 I think) they dont cost as much as foot-wear and need washing so its good to have a few.

nappyaddict · 02/04/2010 15:36

DS has 4 pairs of shoes. However I don't think he needs trainers cos he doesn't do any sports. He will have some when he starts reception and does PE.

Shoes
Wellies
Sandals
Beach shoes

nappyaddict · 02/04/2010 15:38

My friend's DD only has one coat so it is doable but I imagine it is stressful getting it washed and dried in time for the next day.

diddl · 02/04/2010 15:39

I loathe trainers with jeans.

Shoes look much nicer imo.

CarrieDaBabi · 02/04/2010 15:43

oh shit i forgot sandals

i don't think dh would think twice about putting her in trainers with everything, even a party dress

time for a big clothes sortout

I suppose you could manage with only three pairs of shoes but if you can afford it, I think you need at least four pairs:

Trainer type things for jeans/leggings.
One pair of party shoes.
One pair of "proper"/smart shoes
One pair of wellies.

Two coats minimum - one warm quilted thing and one smart one.

My DD is 2.6 and has a lot more pairs of shoes than that but she loves wellies - has four pairs (inc one pair permanently at nursery).

Also, I have a thing about coordination so we need multiple colours of shoe.

And, feel the need to justify myself for some reason.

MrsStig · 02/04/2010 15:44

DD has 3 coats, and

School shoes, casual shoes ,which at the moment are baseball boots, trainers (which I bought for her tennis lesson, but she sometimes wears them with jeans),wellies, and snow boots.

She also needs a smart pair of out of school shoes, which I need to get, but can't decide to go for some start rite mary janes, or lelli kellys, or sandals.

CarrieDaBabi · 02/04/2010 15:50

anna gave me a good tip, a couple of years ago, go for silver party shoes, ballet flats, as they go with almost everything.

ShowOfHands · 02/04/2010 15:57

DD has one coat, one pair of shoes, one pair of wellies.

The prices they charge, they're lucky she's not barefoot and shivering.

I ask for shoes/coats/pjs etc in lieu of presents at Christmas. Nice day out measuring and trying on with Grandma and shoes I wouldn't ordinarily afford.

SMacK · 02/04/2010 15:58

My 19m old dd has one pair of shoes and one coat.

I don't geddit. She doesn't have 6 feet, or 2 bodies!

CarrieDaBabi · 02/04/2010 15:59

nice day out!

bloody hell your dd must be better behaved in shoe shops than mine.

i hate shoe shopping with her

DS nearly 3yo has one pair of shoes, and one pair of wellies.

There's no need for him to have any more because his feet grow so fast it's just not financially worth it (even if we were rich, I just don't see the point!).

SMacK · 02/04/2010 16:05

Don't really see the point of wellies tbh. I don't wear wellies when it rains after all. Why to my children need to?

foxinsocks · 02/04/2010 16:10

do your children not run through puddles sMack?

mine only have trainers, school shoes and wellies. Can't see the point of any more than that tbh. Before they went to school, they only needed one pair at a time (and a pair of wellies).

lovechoc · 02/04/2010 16:10

If DS isn't wearing wellies when it's raining the bottom of his trousers are soaked and it means having to get another pair on - more washing for me to do so wellies are worth the couple of pounds

jenduff · 02/04/2010 16:11

When mine were that age it was one pair of outrageously expensive Clarks shoes for everything bar puddle jumping in cheap wellies and cheap jelly sandals for the beach.

Now they're older and easily influenced by friends we have one pair of Clarks for school, one pair of Clarks for home, wellies in winter, sandals in summer, party shoes, plimsolls for school, trainers for sport etc etc - wish they were 2 again!

petisa · 02/04/2010 16:12

DD's wellies have been fab this winter. She's done a lot of splashing about in puddles and little streams even.

I agree, ideally 2 coats, 1 pair nice leather shoes, 1 pair wellies, 1 pair sandals in summer/warm boots in winter. Don't feel the need to buy trainers for her yet (23 months) nor party shoes, as her lovely startrite shoes do the job fine, and she'll need a new pair in a couple of months!

ImSoNotTelling · 02/04/2010 16:13

Good lord. Mine has one pair of trainers and some wellies that they keep at nursery.

Her feet grow so fast it seems silly to have multiples.

ImSoNotTelling · 02/04/2010 16:13

Mind you DD is always in jeans/trousers.

If we have a wedding or something to go to then we buy a frock and shoes/sandals.

nowwearefour · 02/04/2010 16:14

sorry i think you yab a little bit u. they need wellies and one other pair of shoes i reckon- boots for winter or clarks shoes or trainers. but if you have the money, why not get whatever you would like her to have? i have never bought boots but my ma in law thinks i should have them for both my dds so she bought them for them! they are graet. i have never had trainers for them just a pair of clarks/ startrite shoes or wahtever.

CarrieDaBabi · 02/04/2010 16:15

smack what do you do when those shoes are soaked through though?

OP posts:
nowwearefour · 02/04/2010 16:15

and i really dont get why more than one coat. that v strange concept to me. i could buy more than one each but i cant see why on earth i would?
