I clean the fridge and freezers out every week, rotate the stock etc. Dishwash the fridge shelves and racks. My mum and DH think this is ridiculous and that I am obsessed with it.

I should say that I used to be a pastry chef in a 5* hotel and we stripped and cleaned our service fridge and rotated the stock daily so my clean-fridge obsession is probably a hangover from that. I am rather Monica about the house which again stems from 10 years in luxury hotels.

AIBU clean freaky ?

OMG this thread has just reinforced my idea that i'm actually a total slob!

My fridge gets a clean every once in a blue moon, and as for taking it out and cleaning underneath it! Altho in my defence there are spiders and things that hide in the corners so its not really my fault!

And as for my oven, well i spray a little mr muscle feebly into it again every once in a blue moon, and my freezer only gets defrosted when i cant fit my tubs of ben and jerrys in

Who wants to come round for dinner???

Stillcounting · 31/03/2010 14:11

once a month (thoroughly) for fridge with bicarb

wipe shelves and veg boxes out once a week when I've done my veg shop and do a general chuck/tidy then

Freezer only gets done once or twice a year ...

Am about to clean my oven for the first time in over 5 years

GoldenSnitch · 31/03/2010 14:13

In my defense, we have our milk delivered by a milkman and DH never thinks to wipe the bottom of the bottles (lots of trees outside my house and lots of resulting leaf mulch in autumn/winter/spring) so my milk shelf actually needs cleaning at least weekly.

DaftApeth · 31/03/2010 14:20

Goldensnitch, can I ask what make your kitchen is? I think kick board drawers are such a good idea but no companies seem to mention them.

I haven't looked that hard though

nappyzoneloveslindor · 31/03/2010 14:27

Freezer gets doen when ice is so thick i can close drawers. Fridge needs doing now and more so as mil is coming to babysit and weekends and i know she judges me.

GoldenSnitch · 31/03/2010 14:29

IKEA.

Whatever you do don't have the kitchen delivered from there though - part of it came battered and ruined and we had to collect the rest. The oven got put off so many times it ended up taking over 6 months to arrive and they don't do a matching slimline dishwasher front.

Extra tall wall cabinets are fab for creating extra space though. No more wasted space on top

Notalone · 31/03/2010 14:33

I used to clean mine once a week too. I don't do is as often anymore because I have lots of assignments at uni to do, but when I get more time I will again. Fridges can get really minging! I blame my MIL for my obsession - she once proudly showed me the green and black cauliflower like sproutings she had found at the back of her fridge which scarred me for life

DaftApeth · 31/03/2010 15:10

Goldensnitch I can't find mention of plinth drawers in the Ikea catalogue or on-line [pouts]. Are they only suitable for a particular kitchen style, do you know?

GoldenSnitch · 31/03/2010 16:21

All IKEA kitchens are the same units (FAKTUM) just with different door fronts on.

Maybe try their customer services and ask?

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 31/03/2010 16:59

Oven cleaning..? My oven regularly gets heated to temperatures of over 200C. Down in the lab, we call that 'sterilisation'. Why would I want to go wiping it with a germy dishcloth?

OhFuck · 31/03/2010 17:03
Grin
Pogleswood · 31/03/2010 17:12

Well, in the case of my oven, Heathen,I am not in the least worried about germs, but am a little put off by the thick layer of greasy brown goo covering everything

Ok,that was an exaggeration...a slight exaggeration,anyway!

Think I will bite the bullet and follow Pol's advice and find an oven cleaning company - thanks Pol!

MudandRoses · 31/03/2010 19:37

i only clean my fridge when it stinks or is covered in something sticky. WHich is not very often. And if that means it's full of bacteria, well, what's the problem? Neither I nor my DP/DC have tummy upsets or health problems. I think we're all a bit bacteria-phobic, frankly.

zippy79 · 31/03/2010 22:09

Good for you- My sort of person!

SamanthaB · 02/04/2010 01:37

You are completely mad.

GardenPath · 02/04/2010 02:14

I clean my fridge once every six months whether it needs it or not.

My veggie drawer is a SSSI.

Mallory and Irvine are not lost, they are in my freezer.

ToccataAndFudge · 02/04/2010 05:44

how the f*ck do you fit the shelves in the dishwasher

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 02/04/2010 07:21

Talking of leaving things in the freezer..the worst food poisoning I EVER had was when my lovely ex BF made me some chicken nuggets...which he had found in the freezer of his rented flat, ahd had no idea how long they had been there.

Longtalljosie · 02/04/2010 18:45

I have cleaned my fridge out this weekend, all because of this thread!

Some of the shelves went in the dishwasher, but the big ones had to be done by hand...

activate · 02/04/2010 19:06

yes you are clean freaky

PiratePrincess · 02/04/2010 19:34

Please come and do mine!

QOD · 02/04/2010 19:44

hey did you ladies know that if you leave a microwave curry in the freezer for over a year and then eat it, you get food poisoning?
Also, if whilst running to the loo to vomit you clamp your hand over your mouth, curry really really burns your nostrils when it shoots out - and rice is a bugger to get out of your sinus...

blueshoes · 02/04/2010 20:07

What is food rotation?

Never cleaned my fridge or freezer beyond wiping up spills and obvious grubbiness. Also don't follow use by dates, instead go on smell.

Don't recall ever having food poisoning.

25 minutes x 52 x the number of years of adult life adds up to a lot of time that could be better spent ...

If you say you are Monica about the house, does this cleanfreakiness extend to other areas of the house?

RedBlueRed · 02/04/2010 20:14

I'm eye-wateringly bored this evening so whilst I would normally just click on past, here I am trying to muster a little give-a-fuck about this topic.

YANBU Its your fridge, do what you want with it.

AliGrylls · 02/04/2010 20:18

You do sound slightly obsessed but who cares - I bet you always know what is in it.
