To be annoyed that people have got UGG boots so very wrong

So my brother has turned into an Aussie so I've been loving my UGG boots for about 15 years (on pair number 2) but:

  1. They are basically slippers.
  2. They should be worn around your house/garden and ONLY AS FAR AS THE CORNERSHOP.
  3. They do not protect your feet, or give them support. (They will end up with the 'sloppy UGG boot foot look' where you are treading over the sides of them and you look stupid walking along)
  4. They are shit in the rain and snow.
  5. This last winter especially many toddlers and kids and teenagers were bought them as their main winter footwear. I saw many with wet cold feet in the snow/slush.

Rant over. thanks for that. apologies if this is an OLD discussion I havent the energy to search the talk-logs!

links on ugg foot damage to follow.

They are minging.
I honestly wince everytime I see themn.

Ponders · 24/03/2010 23:22

They are fine in the rain/snow if you waterproof them regularly.

ZacharyQuack · 24/03/2010 23:22

YANBU

mumblechum · 24/03/2010 23:23

They're hideous and permissable only if you're under 16.

Ponders · 24/03/2010 23:24

and I've been wearing mine for months this winter without developing the 'sloppy UGG boot foot look' (that should only happen with the cheap cardboard imitations)

Maggie00 · 24/03/2010 23:26

I think they're hideous. Never owned a pair! they're astonishingly expensive too. You could buy nice boots for the price. Really don't get it at all

But if you're 6 foot and 8 stone and you are one of those rare individuals who would like to look a bit shorter and a bit fatter, then they really are the boots for you.

Ponders · 24/03/2010 23:26

and I don't understand why people have to be so rude & dismissive about them - they are sensible boots which keep your feet warm without socks - what's the problem?

poshwellies · 24/03/2010 23:32

minging vote here-they are a expensive version of slippers. You look shit (and they are probably fake).

They do go well with Jack Wills clothes (ie under 17's)

MadameCastafiore · 24/03/2010 23:35

Ooohhhh sounds like you ripped that one straight off of BBC News the other morning - was basically everything they said about them!

Shitemum · 24/03/2010 23:39

So Uggs are the new Crocs then?

BTW YANBU

ClarksPiestoAmmanford · 24/03/2010 23:40

YABU- and what most people also 'don't get' is that 'proper' ugg boots originated in Australia years ago and are made from a single piece of high-quality sheepskin (NOT suede) which has been used for centuries to keep feet warm and dry. They are also hygienic and don't harbour sweat and odour.

They do need waterproofing but if you look after them they last for years. And you can buy them with arch supports. As Ponders says, it's only the cheapy nasty imitation ones that get that sloppy look.

Authentic Ugg boots made in Australia don't cost anything like what the famous & horrendously expensive 'Ugg Australia' brand charge for them. I get mine direct from an Australian website for £50 including P&P. Also, Ugg Australia are American and not actually anything to do with Australia at all-their boots are more likely made in a sweatshop in China by a small overworked child.

Ponders · 24/03/2010 23:40

I like crocs too

(lovely non-sweaty slippers...)

Just wanted to add I will agree they are not the most aesthetically pleasing shoe...but at my advanced age I like my comforts

poshwellies · 24/03/2010 23:52

'i just get annoyed with their misuse/abuse in the name of fashion'

What is their proper 'use'

IMoveTheStars · 24/03/2010 23:53

YANBU - Old hat in Aus.. farking boring too.

Why are they so expensive??

angel886 · 24/03/2010 23:53

I love my uggs. I haven't been able to wear my normal healed boots whilst pg and they have been a great, stylish alternative. Yes they are expensive but I felt they were woth it. And yes, mine are genuine.

RonaldMcDonald · 24/03/2010 23:54

they are fuck ugly
