To be annoyed that people have got UGG boots so very wrong

So my brother has turned into an Aussie so I've been loving my UGG boots for about 15 years (on pair number 2) but:

  1. They are basically slippers.
  2. They should be worn around your house/garden and ONLY AS FAR AS THE CORNERSHOP.
  3. They do not protect your feet, or give them support. (They will end up with the 'sloppy UGG boot foot look' where you are treading over the sides of them and you look stupid walking along)
  4. They are shit in the rain and snow.
  5. This last winter especially many toddlers and kids and teenagers were bought them as their main winter footwear. I saw many with wet cold feet in the snow/slush.

Rant over. thanks for that. apologies if this is an OLD discussion I havent the energy to search the talk-logs!

links on ugg foot damage to follow.

YANBU

Uggs and Crocs both look bad, but I have caved in to Crocs as beachwear in the summer for the kids, and they're unbeatable when potty training.
Plus they're not harming anyone. Unlike UGGS. Personally I wouldn't wear Australian wool if you care about animals.

You can take my word for it or if you're feeling brave then google "mulesing"...

noopska · 24/03/2010 23:57

just worried about your poor feet - if you are doing lots of walking in them

they are bloody comfortable .. thats reminded me just got to get my boots of and my UGGs (slippers on) been working late and have not yet made that transition!

lotser - one more who will never buy uggs. had no idea. erghhh/.

angel886 · 25/03/2010 00:01

They are incredibly comfortable! You are meant to get them a size less than you are or if you are a half size then 2 sizes less. Did you do this? Just thinking that may be why you think they are uncomfortable and can't walk far in them.

Admittedly, I would look far better if I could actually fit into some skinny jeans

I don't have the classic ones, I have the cardi ones which I love. I agree that they would be totally inappropriate to wear in heavy rain / snow...

IMoveTheStars · 25/03/2010 00:03

blergh... knitted shoes are just wrong (sorry, I just don't understand)

noopska · 25/03/2010 00:06

um posh wellies perhaps footwear can also be good for walking in as well as a statement of fashion?

I watched an undercover Peta video of it once and practically lost my breakfast.

You may also want to avoid swordfish...

angel886 · 25/03/2010 00:06

I think they are lovely www.alltheshoes.co.uk/uggs/ugg_boots_cardy.html (not where I got them from - just an illustration)
Maybe I just have good taste though

IMoveTheStars · 25/03/2010 00:09

swordfish [vom]

no chance i'll ever eat that.

farking uggs.

lotster · 25/03/2010 00:09

I felt quite sorry for my friend who got the grey fold-down ribbed ones with the buttons from Jones Bootmaker - then the following week Tina whatserface (Mimi McGuire in Shameless) madethem famous slobbing about in them on Celeb BB..

noopska · 25/03/2010 00:10

oh yes jareth this seasons knitted look .. one of my best friends got her 3yr old daughter the primark versions of these and i'm too much of a wuss to say what i think!

so i'll just skulk here on the net

They are really, really bad for your feet. They give no support and don't fit round feet properly so your feet just slop around in them.

Morloth · 25/03/2010 09:13

YABU, it isn't annoying it is hysterical. Never ceases to brighten my day seeing otherwise well dressed people wandering around in slippers.

Bonsoir · 25/03/2010 09:18

OP, YANBU. I particularly loathe Ugg boots combined with Moncler down jackets and skinny jeans, which is what all the seriously unimaginative mamans bourgeoises were wearing for the school run this winter.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 25/03/2010 09:36

i'd love a pair of UGGs, I think I could carry them off. 5'10" tall but horribly overweight. DD has a rip off pair that she nobby's around in. Her teacher has a real pair (she is from Aus). DD noticed that hers didn't say UGG on the back so made a little label and selotaped it on. Bless.
