To think hosting a sleepover for four 9yo girls can't be that bad?

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 13:34

I've never done the sleepover thing before.

Everyone I mention it to raises their eyes to heaven and says nothing and just sort of looks at me.

It can't be that awful.

Can it?

My lot spent the evening watching Bedknobs and Broomstick, how quaint! They are now all in bed, and sort of quiet, although I can hear the odd dull thump. I'm off to bed myself in a mo so will stick my head in and see how they are doing. One has a drama class at 10.00 tomorrow so I will have to get her up and dressed! I must say they have been really good on the whole.

SinninHinny · 19/03/2010 22:59

I must admit that I generally coordinate so that DH is away. He is a wee bit more grumpy than me about giggling and whispering and the like

teenyweenytadpole · 19/03/2010 23:03

Just been up. my DD is sound asleep but her friends are still rustling around and whispering. One down, two to go!

cakewench · 19/03/2010 23:04

aww 'rustling'

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 23:05

Well done Teeny.

Sinnin, really?, about the mobiles?

I think it's pretty uncommon at 9 in their school, tbh, although I have seen quite a few of the Y6s with a phone.

They're getting grumpy now.

One after the other coming down and whining "xxx is keeping us all awake".

musicposy · 19/03/2010 23:11

Ha, am enjoying this thread! I won't stay awake until 4am for updates but will check back tomorrow!

Small 4am tip When I've finally got desperate I've been known to threaten that if they aren't at least quiet I will sleep one of them in the garage, one in the shed, one in the dog kennel and one in the bath, and it will be a random choice who goes where! They usually giggle a lot at this but are often suprisingly quiet afterwards!

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 23:12

Whispering now.

"What would you do if you broke up with your bestest friend?"

"I would literally cry".

Word for word.

musicposy · 19/03/2010 23:14

It all sounds very sweet - and quite manageable actually! You might be lucky and get sleep yourself!

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 23:15

They've been fine, and it's getting quieter by the second.

OP posts:
Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 23:17

It's incerdibly hot in their room, considering there's only four of them.

OP posts:
Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 23:17

That'll be the wine then

OP posts:
Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 23:21

Cadelaide my dd went to her first sleep over in November, 8 were invited only 2 stayed and when I collected her the next day, the dad told me she was the last to fall asleep at about 12, and it wasn't too bad

Although they asked for her to be collected at 10 and when I got there everyone was in their jammies and the mum was still in bed

sounds like you got off lightly

btw my dd dosen't have a mobile either but shes the only one (followed by me saying tough!

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 23:31

I can't believe all of these 9yos with mobile phones.

I'm not suggesting they shouldn't have them, by any means, just that it seems to be commonplace except for in DDs school.

Luddites 'round yer see.

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 23:31

How funny that the Mum was still in bed!

Poor woman!

I really should go to bed, shouldn't I?

OP posts:
Cadelaide · 20/03/2010 08:21

Right, they were all up at 6.15.

That's not too bad, is it?

They've flooded the bathroom and used every towel in the house ( and I have a lot of towels).

Now I'm off to make hot chocolate with that appalling squirty cream stuff and marshmallows. They're all very excited about that.

OP posts:
musicposy · 20/03/2010 08:33

It sounds like you did pretty well! What time are you getting rid of them they being collected?

Cadelaide well done (and fake squirty cream is the height of excitement here too - hence why we have to visit Starbucks for a 'treat' on a Saturday).

'I would literally cry' made me, like, literally cry with laughter.

Mobiles - they all have them here. DD1 has had one since she was 9. She's surgically attached to it now. My mum actually bought her the first one against my wishes

Have a wonderful and restful day today, YOU SURVIVED

Cadelaide · 20/03/2010 10:12

I have yet to pull out my ace card, a jacqueline wilson video picked up from the charity shop for 50p (along with a worst witch one).

They've been lovely, just come in from rolling about in the field.
