To think hosting a sleepover for four 9yo girls can't be that bad?

I've never done the sleepover thing before.

Everyone I mention it to raises their eyes to heaven and says nothing and just sort of looks at me.

It can't be that awful.

Can it?

Hey cadelaide!

It really isn't that bad as long as you accept several things as given:

  1. They will not sleep.
  2. They will eat a huge amount and it won't be healthy. Fill your fridge with popcorn and pizza. Forget the apples
  3. The room they are sleeping in will look like Pilton after the festival.

As long as you accept those three facts all will be well

OrmRenewed · 19/03/2010 17:04

Oh and

  1. Something will get broken or lost.

Hi Orm. I have piles of junk food, I left the days of offering carrot sticks behind long ago! I may get DP to pick up more on the way home from work though. That's if he ever gets home, I think he's avoiding us.

I am a bit concerned about points 3 and 4 (spot the local calling it "pilton" and not "glastonbury") as they're all sleeping in the boys' room 'cos it's bigger. One boy is at Gran's and the tiny will be in our bed, since he always ends up there anyway. DS1 has been very generous about the whole thing, I do hope they don't trash his stuff.

Oh Lord, they're watching Tracy Beaker, she's always vile after that.

The room will be exceedingly frowsty after being trumped in all night - junk food and all that . I second the 11 year old thing - also beware of the smell of nail polish remover and the like - suppose that goes with the frowsty territory outlined above.

OrmRenewed · 19/03/2010 17:14

DS#1 is being generous because he won't be there!

Last year one of DD's friends took a fancy to him and kept knocking on his door and saying 'are you awake yet Alex' every 10mins or so from about 5am He was feeling very harrassed and got at!

OrmRenewed · 19/03/2010 17:15

Sorry 'him' referred to my DS#1

SinninHinny · 19/03/2010 17:15

Tracy Beaker . 'Tis iCarly here now we are 11

ilovesprouts · 19/03/2010 17:17

i bet you will NEVER have another one

Kneazle · 19/03/2010 17:17

I agree with all of the above plus they will probably break the toilet. They will consider this hilarious and there will be lots of screeching at all times.

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 17:18

trefusis, I like your "ferrets" post.

Funny

Oh they'll be fine. My DD1 has had loads of sleepovers and we've had no structural damage or visits to A&E yet

They disappear up to her room, listen to music, watch TV and loads of DVDs, scoff popcorn and plait each other's hair and usually crash before midnight IME.

Totally agree with whoever said that how the sleepover goes depends on who's invited. I now have a 'yes' and 'no' list for DD1s friends.

M44 · 19/03/2010 17:20

do not give them pop corn.....you will be finding it for months if you do!!!

loungelizard · 19/03/2010 17:20

One will whine and want to go home in the middle of the night.

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 17:21

This is how I imagine it. At about 8.30pm they will go up to their room, I will throw the junk food in behind them and then they will be very noisy for several hours.

I'm really hoping they will stay upstairs, and I'm really hoping they won't interrupt...no, I can't tell you, it's too embarrassing.

I want to hide this thread so much.

It is going to be the MN equivalent of a multiple pile up near Toddington services.

I don't want to look, but I can't stop myself turning my head,

mathanxiety · 19/03/2010 17:27

They'll get their second wind at 4 AM if my experience is anything to go by.

pointydog · 19/03/2010 17:29

Sleepovers here haven't been that bad. They retire to the bedroom by about 10 and then they are asleep between 12 and 1am.

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 17:30

What is this "4 am" people keep refering to?

OP posts:
Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 17:31

referring

OP posts:
pointydog · 19/03/2010 17:33

I have never ever experienced any problems at 4am with a sleepover. Keep your fingers crossed

SinninHinny · 19/03/2010 17:38

"I'm really hoping they won't interrupt...no, I can't tell you, it's too embarrassing."

Ooh I'm agog......tell tell tell

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 17:43

How low of me to tease like that.

How needy

Thing is, I have this thing I like to do on a Friday night. It involves a glass of red wine, possibly chocolate and Doc Martin.

Sometimes I watch "Kingdom" too.
