To think hosting a sleepover for four 9yo girls can't be that bad?

I've never done the sleepover thing before.

Everyone I mention it to raises their eyes to heaven and says nothing and just sort of looks at me.

It can't be that awful.

Can it?

Ooh, I feel all cleansed now

how embarrassing. You won't see much of it tonight aha ha ha

Shodan · 19/03/2010 17:47

I still have a nervous twitch from when ds1 had 5 friends iover for a sleepover four years ago.

DH caught them throwing Smarties at each other and gave them the 'starving children in Africa' speech. I was torn between childish giggles and being mortified.

They didn't sleep at all, you know. Two of them watched dvds all night.

And one had to be up and alert and fed at 9 a.m for football.

Never, ever again.

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 17:48

How old Shodan?

trefusis that's brought back very happy memories of my own sleepovers. We did indeed sleep in a pile like ferrets. Lovely!

teenyweenytadpole · 19/03/2010 18:08

Hey I have 2 8 years olds plus my own DD's aged 8 and 5 here at the moment. I am cooking their tea now (pasta, garlic dough balls etc) and then they are going to watch a movie and eat junk. The last sleepover they all went to sleep about 11.15. Fingers crossed for us all!!

teenyweenytadpole · 19/03/2010 18:12

PS I have just cracked open my first beer...and DH is away for the night, so if small DD ends up in my bed that's fine by me.

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 18:14

Oh how funny teenyweeny, I'm burning cooking pasta and garlic bread as I type.

They don't have tvs upstairs and I really don't fancy having them down here all evening.

I don't have to entertain them do I?

They're up playing with the poor hamster now. Thankfully he's a robust, friendly type.

One of them says she's scared of the hamster and is getting a bit shrieky. I guess the hysteria builds from here then?

No sleepover here and I'm eyeing up the red wine! But I am going to have one next month

Oh Cadelaide, there is no hope now the shrieking has started. It just builds and builds. Although I am talking here about my DDs I s'pose, they are shrieking harpies at the best of times.

OrmRenewed · 19/03/2010 18:26

Now I did indoor rock climbing for DD's 9th. Was a doddle compared to a sleepover

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 18:30

The small one has not done at all as expected.

He fell asleep at about 4.30 and is still asleep now. That's just rubbish isn't it?

He'll probably wake at some unholy hour just as they're all falling asleep

OP posts:
Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 18:59

Now they're all sat around the table, post-pasta, talking about those at school whom they "hate".

It's horrible. Just like an adult dinner party.

5Foot5 · 19/03/2010 19:30

Never had more than 3 at a time (DD and two friends) but at 9yo they were fine - and asleep by about 11pm

It has been the two most recent at 12 and 13 that were fraught. There always seems to be someone gets a stomach ache, feels sick, gets tearful and can't sleep and i end up having to separate them and put the tearful one in the spare room so they can all sleep. Maybe this is just group dynamic or something

Miamla · 19/03/2010 19:36

oh my! if DS wakes me up at 4am tomorrow, I'm coming straight on here for an update!

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 19:40

One of them just said "lets get into bed and talk about embarrassing moments"

Am I betraying them here, d'you think?

My dd had a sleepover party with 6 friends for her 8th and 9th birthdays.
It was pretty easy actually (and a cheap party option )
They played some games, had a party tea, watched a film, then disappeared. Didn't sleep obviously till about 4am and were up at about 6am

Depends on the kids I think and how much order you like to have at home.

As far as I'm aware none of them have mobiles.

I'll check though.

OP posts:
OrmRenewed · 19/03/2010 20:00

Ah yes mobiles! Remove. Because otherwise they keep calling 118118 to ask disturbing questions. And then random numbers

SinninHinny · 19/03/2010 20:01

lol at 'like adult dinner party'.

It all sounds suspiciously wellbehaved.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 19/03/2010 20:30

Ohh I love the live updates!

Cadelaide · 19/03/2010 21:03

Lots of thundering up and down the stairs.

DS2 now awake and very grumpy.
