To be out of my mind with worry about a cat?

IHeartKittensAndWine · 18/03/2010 18:11

Let them out at 6.30 this morning, had the backdoor adjar so they could pop in/out as they wished. Was working in the study, one cat came in and out etc, now dozing. Other one hasn't been seen since, despite calling, leaving food just by door etc. He'd normally be coming in every 20-30 minutes and jump all over my computor. I'm so so so worried, he's only seven months old, only started going out about six weeks ago, always comes when I call. To make matters worse, heard rumour that our next door but one neighbour has a pitbull!

I can't concentrate on work or anything, just so desperately want to see his little face.

YANBU I really hope he turns up soon.

I am sure he is fine - but might be worth knocking on next door neighbours to ask if they're seen him/check garages and sheds. it was first warm day in ages down here and we had the garage open for the first time this year - would have been templting for a cat.

waitingforbedtime · 18/03/2010 18:14

YANBU hope he is found safe and well

CockShore · 18/03/2010 18:23

I would think he is just nosing around as it has been a warm and sunny day. Fingers crossed he will come back when hungry.

If you want, maybe go and knock on some of the neighbs homes and ask if they have seen him.

Fingers crossed all will be well shortly.

KimiGaveUpStarbucks4Lent · 18/03/2010 18:25

I am sure he will turn up soon. x

AgentZigzag · 18/03/2010 18:27

YABU they're little buggers for doing a disappearing act for three days odd, worrying you to death, then strolling in like nothing's happened!

Just something you've got to put up with as a cat owner, plus never knowing what they got up to during their disappearance.

I'm sure he's absolutely fine and be in when he's hungry, hope that's soon

I used to have 2 cats but one died last year- I was devestated, he had go knocked over when he was running to a field. My dp sat me down and had a chat with me as I then refused to let my other cat out.

He made me realsie that when you are a cat mum, you have to let them out as they are wild and need adventures (I was 8 months pregnant and in consoulable). Being the proud parent of a cat means you have to accept that they may not ocme home.

Saying that cat 2 has stayed out loads - even in the snow and has always been fine. I'm sure your cat is just enjoying the weather and lighter nights

YANBU - I have a 7 month old cat too - who has also only been going out for a few weeks. He goes off exploring, although fortunately always wanders back after a few hours when his tummy starts rumbling! I had a phone call at the beginning of the week from the builders yard that backs onto our house. Apparently he has been going over there everyday and scrounging their sandwiches!!! They were fine about it, thought he was very cute, but just wanted to check he wasn't lost (he wasn't I'd seen him less than 30 minutes before). Im sure your little fella is just off having fun and will be home soon.

IHeartKittensAndWine · 18/03/2010 18:52

I hope so... I've knocked on all the neighbours doors (all the neighbours that would answer, that is). The thing is, he ALWAYS comes in regularly, its SO out of character.

Hopefully some good news to report in the morning....

YANBU to be worried but I am sure he will be fine. It is horrible when they do go off though, but like everyone else has said he is most likely off having a wonderful time!

Got my fingers crossed for you.

MrsSaxon · 18/03/2010 19:28

Do you have a photo of him? If you do put the photo of him on a plate, sprinkle with sugar and mentally call out to him.

BigMomma3 · 18/03/2010 19:28

Oh IHeart, I have been through the exact same thing (still am actually). Our lovely 6 month kitten went out 3 weeks ago today and we have not seen him since . I have still not given up though and had a call this afternoon from someone who thought she might have seen him but it was'nt him.

I hope yours comes back because I have been amazed by how upset I've been and how many tears I've shed for him when the DCs are in bed. They are still hoping he will come back and we all keep reminicing about the crazy things he did. We have done everything, posted leaflets through letterboxes, rang all the vets etc all to no avail. He was the DCs first pet and I will never get another one after this. It really does feel like a bereavement. I have even dreamed about him coming back. I keep telling myself it's a bloody cat fgs!!

Really hope you don't have to go through the same .

BigMomma3 · 18/03/2010 19:30

can't spell reminiscing btw!

AgentZigzag · 18/03/2010 20:07

for you BigMomma, it's still poss he might come back, if he hasn't been neutered he could be off chasing the ladies? They can roam for miles chasing a scent and still come home.

3cats3dogs · 18/03/2010 20:57

One of our 7 month old kittens disappeared last week, we were abolutely out of our minds worrying, and went out calling and knocking on doors, convinced he'd been eaten by a vicious dog nearby, or if a mad neighbour had tried to steal him.

He turned up 2 days later, thankfully.

I hope yours turns up soon - he's probably got to an exploring age!

ChippingIn · 18/03/2010 21:13

Any news?

If he isn't home by the time you go to bed, put a box out by the door with something warm & comfortable in it and maybe a bit of food.

I hope he's OK. We've certainly been through a lot with our two over the years, so I know how hard it is!!

ClaireDeLoon · 18/03/2010 21:23

oh I hope he is home and BigMomma I hope the same for you, that he comes home soon.

IHeartKittensAndWine · 18/03/2010 21:59

No news yet (sorry for going offline, been round the neighbours I couldn't get hold of earlier). Oh BigMomma I'm so sorry .

My blasted cat went "missing" for nearly 48 hours.

I was out of my mind with worry - I had just printed out some "missing" ads, and had just put the phone down to register him missing with microchip company plus loads of vets in the area and the lil bugger strolled though the door

Hope he come back soon.

MrsSaxon - Does that work?????

motherlovebone · 18/03/2010 22:32

my lil cat went missing for over two weeks (many moons ago)
YABU for the next 13 days.

Good Luck

oldraver · 18/03/2010 22:38

Has he been neutered yet ? Ours went missing just before he was done and the vet said it was common for them to go wandering when they start to become sexually mature

IHeartKittensAndWine · 18/03/2010 22:38

Thank you all so much. It has been such a horrible evening ... OH and I had a little cry. It's cold out and raining, so I just hope that he's warm wherever he is. It'll be so strange waking up without my alarm clock!

OP posts:
IHeartKittensAndWine · 18/03/2010 22:40

Cross-post oldraver yes he has been neutered...

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 18/03/2010 22:51

I hope he comes home soon.

DH and I were just reminising about our cat (put to sleep yesterday aged 15+) When he was young he was a real wanderer and on many occasions didn't turn up at tea time.
We used to do this peculiar double act where we each assured the other we weren't worried but we would then find reasons to go out (eg an extra walk for the dogs/check the hayshed/walk dwn the road to see a friend) so we could look for him.
On one occasion he was gone for 3 days and after the frst day we openly paniced and searched for miles and miles.
Everytime he turned up we would laugh at ourselves and insist that next time he did it we wouldn't worry...

Fingers crossed that he strolls in soon.

ClaireDeLoon · 19/03/2010 09:40

any sign of him this morning?
