I am a foster carer. The children we look after at the moment are due to leave us in June/July. We always go abroad in August each year. This year though because we will have new children with us and we don't know wether they will have passports we have decided to stay in the UK.
We decided on a caravan holiday. Now while our children absolutely love this type of holiday I'm not so keen. To make it bearable we always book the best accomodation possible which means booking ahead.
So I phoned a resort and was told of a privately owned van which would be ideal.
I phoned the owner to book. I asked the lady if the van was available in August for 2 adults and 6 children, it was and she began to take my details. She then asked for the names and ages of the children. I gave her details for my 3 dc but said as I was a fc I could not give details of the other 3 as they were not with me yet.
At this point sounding absolutely horrified she said "oh I don't think I can have that sort of child in my van, they might cause damage or upset the other residents".
After telling her to stuff her van I put the phone down, but I am so mad. My children are not bad they have had bad things done to them by the adults in their lives. Even if they are a little excitable I am perfectly capable of keeping them under control.
I'm so angry I keeping wishing for bad things to happen to her caravan. I know it is her right not to let anyone stay in her van so AIBU to hate her for her crap attitude.

Not in the slightest. What a ridiculous thing to say. I am a bit confused about why she needs their names? Does she put potential renters through a police computer?
Silly mare.

piprabbit · 18/03/2010 12:06

YANBU to hate her crap attitude.

Niftyblue · 18/03/2010 12:06

YANBU
for you
Why do some people think like that ??
i don`t get it

Kids are kids fostered or not

Who needs her poxy place anyway
Fingers crossed she gets NO business at all for all of the summer

MaMight · 18/03/2010 12:06

Ugh. What a horrible, ignorant woman. YANBU.

MarshaMellow · 18/03/2010 12:08

Thank goodness we have people like you dolphin! What an ignorant woman, how sad that she has decided what sort of children require foster care, very sad

TubbyDuffs · 18/03/2010 12:08

YADNBU, what a cow bag she is!

StaplerStuckInBackOfHead · 18/03/2010 12:12

hate, crap attitude, disappointment, disillusion, loss of a good caravan... I think YANBU to let out your emotions. But let them fizzle out quick and start searching for another caravan.

You are not really going to look for the caravan site to burn her caravan, are you? It's so not worth it unless you are planning a big campfire on the the last night.

dont bloody well give her the money, lets hope it stays unrented then.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 18/03/2010 12:37

fucking, fucking bitch.

I had a girl moved once from one children's home to another because there was an angry mob outside the house (seriously) threatening her and staff. I remember there were issues that had led up to it (think she had been trespassing) but as soon as they found out it was a children's home and she was in care they were baying for her fucking blood. The company had to sell the house!!! Fuckers.

StaplerStuckInBackOfHead · 18/03/2010 12:41

I think the plan for woman whose caravan might be burnt to the ground is not to lose any money by having to fork out for repairs that little but possibly unruly dolphins might do to her caravan.

StewieGriffinsMom, fancy a caravan holiday this summer? lol

frasersmummy · 18/03/2010 12:42

"that sort of child"

what sort is that.. presumably the sort who will be really happy to get a holiday because their home life circumstances wont allow it at the moment

I think anyone who fosters has a fantastic heart and is really brave.. i couldnt get attached and then hand them back

so well done you..

I believe what goes around comes around so she'll get her come uppance

MmeLindt · 18/03/2010 12:43

What a horrible woman. No wonder you are upset.

Did you want to go to a specific park?

NicknameTaken · 18/03/2010 12:44

The woman probably believes everything she reads in the Daily Mail.

Btw, I think it's lovely the way you leap to the defence of your foster children like that. Mama bear!

saggyhairyarse · 18/03/2010 12:48

Please complain and write her a shit review on www.ukcampsite.co.uk.

What a bitch!

Hobnobfanatic · 18/03/2010 12:50

Can you not report her somewhere? Surely this kind of discrimination is illegal? She couldn't refuse someone on race, gender or sexual preference - why should she be allowed to get away with such a horrible, prejudiced attitude to children?

Unbelievable!

Hobnobfanatic · 18/03/2010 12:51

Or at least contact her local paper?

nobodyisasomebody · 18/03/2010 12:52

YABVU To not post her phone number and personal details...

Good for you for defending your position..

DorotheaPlenticlew · 18/03/2010 12:54

Horrible attitude. Can't understand how anyone can be so cruel as to be prejudiced against children who've been through such a lot already

Well done you for telling her to stuff it. Hope you find a really good place to stay.

melpomene · 18/03/2010 12:54

Horrible.

AFAIK discrimination against foster children isn't specifically outlawed, but I'm wondering whether this might potentially count as discrimination against people with disabilities? Because children with disabilities are more likely (I think) to enter foster care, this policy could be indirect discrimination. If that is the case (I'm not exactly an expert), then she could be acting contrary to the Disability Discrimination Act and could be sued. So it could be worth seeking advice about that, especially if it's likely that some of the children you will be looking after will have disabilities.

BessieBoots · 18/03/2010 12:58

Your OP made me feel a bit sick. What a bloody bitch. I'd be livid if I was you

FromGirders · 18/03/2010 12:58

Def write a review on ukcampsite - I always check there before I book somewhere.

MrsChemist · 18/03/2010 13:01

YANBU, what a cowbag!

The last thing these children need is that sort of attitude.

dolphin13 · 18/03/2010 13:10

Thank you ladies. I feel much calmer now so I will not be sneaking off to a certain south coast resort with a can of petrol and box of matches.
I have found her website so will spend the rest of my life posting crap reviews,(It is a lovely van would even keep a campsite snob like me happy).
Kat that is terrible, why are some people so blinkered?.

Not sure if she is breaking any laws it is her property, but I am going to ask my sw what she thinks and may take further action.

piprabbit · 18/03/2010 23:18

Oooh, please point us in the direction of her website.... I'd love to read your reviews.
