Cannot believe I, or any of the rest of us, have not mentioned Charlie Brooker

Makes me pmsl too often (I know he's not a comedian per se....but deserves elevation into the MN Hall of Comedy Fame, non?)

stillenacht · 16/03/2010 23:05

I was about to mention Mr Brooker and then started thinking about who I fancied (comedians) and am now watching Russell Howard on youtube.....anyway...yes Charlie Brooker...vg

The best live stand up I've been to have been Chris Rock and Frank Skinner.

Didn't really enjoy Jimmy Carr.

I'd like to see Eddie Izzard, Bill Bailey.

I want to be best friends with Shappi Khorsandi.

iwastooearlytobeayummymummy · 16/03/2010 23:14

sounds like Russell Howard is heading up the leader board of most fancied comedians

specialmagiclady · 16/03/2010 23:18

Like Sarah Millican of the current ladies crop.

stillenacht · 16/03/2010 23:19

Sorry but I love this quote:

Frankie Boyle:

"You have each been selected for this mission as you are unkown to the enemy and you each have a special skill. Professor Hawkin, John Leslie, Phil Neville, the Woo Tan Clan, Usher, the Sugar Puffs Monster and Daniel Day-Lewis. Welcome to operation MindFuck!"

Ah yes Valpollicella - follow us, our is the true way! We've got the DVD and still laugh every time we watch it.

dillydallydolly · 16/03/2010 23:53

Charlie Brooker - pure gold that man.
Any one remember Mark Thomas?... love his stuff - funny, thought provoking and informative, in the vain of the american guy Michael Moore.

Victoria Wood obviously - the shoe shop sketch
better now

BritFish · 17/03/2010 00:06

Valpollicella

you are my kind of woman!

"Fran will fail. You'll toil your life away. And I'll die alone, upside-down on the floor of a pub toilet."

Charlie Brooker's books are fab, i read them on holiday when i dont have my laptop and cant get at my beloved 40D, BBCiplayer etc...

Valpollicella · 17/03/2010 00:19

Actually that might make a good MN nickname {grin]

Britfish - I think we've found our comedy soul mates in each other

Love

Jeremy Hardy
Paul Merton
Mark Steel
Dylan Moran
Dara O'Brien
Andrew Marvell
Sarah Millican
Dermot Morgan
David Mitchell

Hate Mark Thomas - preaching without being funny.
The Pub Landlord
Frank Carson

We have recently seen Rob Brydon, Jimmy Carr and Lee Mack.

Rob Brydon was the best live. Both Carr and Mack were better on their previous tours imo, which we saw on TV. I fancy Lee Mack (but dp knows and doesn't mind).

On our wish list, Frankie Boyle.

Don't like Dave Gorman.
Don't think Russell Howard is funny.
Don't think Arthur Smith is funny.

I don't think anyone who makes lazy jokes about Amy Winehouse and Kerry Katona is funny. In fact, I think that laughing at these jokes has contributed to the rouble in their lives and their recoveries.

Tripoli · 17/03/2010 08:44

I used to have a half-baked theory about today's comedians being political philosopers. You have the brightest minds meeting at the top drama clubs in the top universities in the country (what is it about Cambridge in particular?), receiving a world class education and then becoming a comedian.

I suppose Ben Elton, with his rants, exemplified this.

David Michell on cocaine, if he tried it, he could either love it, which would lead to a life of addiction and misery, or he could not like it. So if he decideds to try cocaine, he must hope to experience the least harmful outcome, he should hope that he has a bad experience.

Our comedians are probably (case by case) the best educated profession. Harry Hill did medicine. Dara is a physics nut.

Has anyone read Jimmy Carr's 'The Naked Jape'. I have bought 8 copies and everyone I have given it to has loved it, including 2 nonagenarians.

Tripoli · 17/03/2010 08:47

Sean Lock

Dp went to see Eddy Iz recently but the venue was too big.

Not Sarah Mullican at all. I don't understand why she is on the telly.

Does anyone know of new people?

Tripoli · 17/03/2010 08:55

Linda Smith on how she understands the issue of Weapons of Mass Destruction because she is just like that with scissors. She looks and looks and looks but she can't find them, and the only difference is that she genuinely knows that the scissors are there.

I think she first said about giving the oxygen of publicity, 'Don't give him the oxgygen of oxygen'.

MarthaFarquhar · 17/03/2010 09:04

Bill Bailey and Ross Noble were both amazing live
Ricky Gervais less so
I would love to see Chris Rock next time he's in the UK though.

I bought DH tickets 2 tickets for Frankie Boyle in November for his birthday. However, I am now up the duff with a due date around a week before the gig, so it looks like I'll be stuck at home with a newborn while DH goes with SIL .

Tripoli · 17/03/2010 09:10

The News Quiz and the Now Show

Jeremy Hardy. I don't know what he looks like, is he only on the radio.

Tripoli · 17/03/2010 09:11

Lee Mack
' I'm in a relationship now...

' Sorry ladies...

' It will have to be your place.

artattackandvine · 17/03/2010 09:20

Tim Key, Stewart Lee, Count Arthur Strong, and am currently obsessed with Police Squad! - the one with Leslie Nielsen.

Cannot abide Mock the Week. Makes me want to stove the tv screen in with a mallett.
