To think abusive parents should bear the blame

Children who have been in the media recently and have comitted horrific crimes against other children, (the Bulger case, The two boys in Doncaster are the two that spring to mind)have all come from horrific homes where they have witnessed and been subjected to violence on a daily basis and watched hardcore porn.

The behaviour they displayed has surely been learnt from the adults responsible for them. Does anyone agree with me when i think that not only should the children be sent away and rehabilitated, the parents should also serve an equal jail sentence for severe neglect.

So let me get this straight.......... One is only allowed to reply to a post if one agrees with certain mumsnetters.

GypsyMoth · 15/03/2010 19:07

Alouise.......common sense?? How would you get them to sign consent form? Medical proffesion need it before an op? So you'd be forcing them in, strapping them down?

Alouiseg · 15/03/2010 19:07

If so could I have a list?

Alouiseg · 15/03/2010 19:08

Yes 3bb, rather like the electric chair.

You are only allowed to post if you agree with me. Ignore the others, especially the ones who can't spell

ImSoNotTelling · 15/03/2010 19:13

But most people who abuse children are not prosecuted, do not come to the attention of teh authorities. So how is generational abuse going to be wiped out?

If there were a way of identifying everyone who abused their children, and there was the money and political will to do it, then we could deal with the problem without resorting to sterilising people.

GypsyMoth · 15/03/2010 19:19

And how many abusers are natural parents or step parents or a boyfriend/ girlfriend? Is there any research on that?

Would you sterilise those abusers too? And all the paedophiles who aren't parents yet?

Where would I end?

ImSoNotTelling · 15/03/2010 19:33

mrsR ppeat said that people should be sterilised, first post in response to the OP

Alouiseg · 15/03/2010 19:35

3bb, if one hurts a child, whether ones own or someone elses. Punishment should follow, firstly to protect the children you have access to and secondly to stop more children being created by evil, cruel abusers.

Frankly prison would keep them out of the way for a while but it's expensive and just seems to teach old dogs new tricks.

Sterilisation is far more cost effective.

What would you like to see happen to them? A cup of a tea and a nice chat with a probation officer once a week?

tethersend · 15/03/2010 19:43

Isn't castration even cheaper?

Actually, I'm pretty sure a bullet to the head is even cheaper than that. Especially if you shoot two at once.

Or perhaps some sort of gas? That must be the most cost-effective solution. A bit final, but a solution nonetheless.

GypsyMoth · 15/03/2010 19:46

Sterilisation is not going to be more cost effective is it?
Not when the enforcers of this mad idea would end up needing extensive legal support when they are dragged through the courts for enforcment of human rights!

Alouiseg · 15/03/2010 19:50

Ok so what would you do about it?

BattyKoda · 15/03/2010 19:52

I agree - they should be sterilised. They gave up their human/moral rights when they took away their childrens.

tethersend · 15/03/2010 19:54

How do you stamp out paedophilia?

I don't know.

Does that mean I have to accept forced sterilisation?

tethersend · 15/03/2010 19:55

You don't 'give up' human rights, no matter what you do.

Alouiseg · 15/03/2010 20:02

Human Rights are actually worthless if there is no responsibility attached.

I still would like to know how the anti sterilisation brigade would punish them/protect children.

ChynaDoll2006 · 15/03/2010 20:04

I DEFINITELY disagree with the demonisation of children. It really is disgusting and uncivilized.

I agree up to a point with blaming abusive/neglectful parents. But everything is so complicated. Parents go through mental illnesses, abusive situations, and although none of these make any excuse for what happens to these children, they are definitely not cold blooded monsters as so many people seem to think. Most of them probably love their children dearly but just are unequipped to raise them. And no that doesn't mean I agree with sterilization because it's barbaric.

Vulnerable in society are everyone's responsibility. If we don't get our act together and help today's abused children, they will probably be the abusers of tomorrow. You don't get a manual of how to be a balanced person when you turn 18!

tethersend · 15/03/2010 20:04

"Human Rights are actually worthless if there is no responsibility attached."

Can you point to the part of the Geneva convention where it says that from, Alouise? I can't seem to find it...

Oh, and I still have no 100% effective method of eradicating paedophilia. HTH.

GypsyMoth · 15/03/2010 20:05

i dont work in ss so dont know, but i would think they would need better training and more social workers. restructuring, more money....who knows?

and how do you define abuse??

is it a slap on the hand, leaving home alone? shouting? not feeding them their five a day? no toys? no goodnight kiss? what criteria would you use to say 'this child has been abused, call the surgeon '(if there is one who would agree to do this)

Alouiseg · 15/03/2010 20:07

This a conversational thread, are we allowed opinions or does everything have to be backed up by research?

I didn't ask how to wipe out paedophilia I asked how to punish abusive and neglectful parents. Your opinion that is, not a dossier of evidence.

ChynaDoll2006 · 15/03/2010 20:08

Exactly ThreeBlondeBoys, and it would all be judged from a top-down white middle class man perspective so families from other cultures would probably get it disproportionately

GypsyMoth · 15/03/2010 20:09

was that aimed at me Aloise? cos i'm not being horrible,or using the hmm face?i'm just speaking to you nicely
