To think dh has no taste?

Yeah yeah I probably should have put this in DIY/property but that's dull!

So what do you think of these tiles?

Scroll down to SPRING (the pink one).

We're having a Victorian style bathroom, roll-top bath etc. I want two of these on either side of the shower on the cubicle walls (i.e. inside the shower). We are having the walls dark pink below the dado and off-white above the dado.

Fantabulous and poncetastic, non?

Dh has said no, but I am ignoring him slowly talking him round.

I think with the dark pink/off white walls, they will look gorgeous! Cant see why people dont like them, whats not to like?!

EggyAllenPoe · 13/03/2010 22:35

ah but Lequeen - genuine victorian bathware is every bit as floral, crenellated and decorative (take a look on ebay - there are usually a few pieces, minimum decoration being a large blue makers mark)

and since when was victoriana (or edwardiana, whatever, the old queen drew breathe past the turning of the clock...) tasteful?

honestly, this is why on Grand Designs you so often see some fantastic house, filled with good quality blandititude that looks just look like the interior of an up-scaled 3 bed semi.

mark my words, decorative will come back in with avengeance.

ninedragons · 13/03/2010 22:41

They're fireplace tiles, not bathroom tiles.

Sorry, another vote for your DH here.

baskingseals · 13/03/2010 22:52

also had the mirrors - one for each season I think

i actually think they're pretty

i say tile and be damned

Picante · 14/03/2010 06:28

Pmsl at you lot. Might do it just to spite you all and put pictures on my profile to show you how utterly gorgeous my bathroom is.

Do you want to sell the house in the next 10 years (ie before bathroom next re-decorated)? If yes, for the love of god don't use these tiles. If no, go for it - personally I think they are naff but who cares what I think? It's your house and you'll have the added satisfaction of annoying your DH every time he has a pee.

SugarTits · 14/03/2010 12:30

This is the sort of thing that my parents friends had in their houses in the 70's complete with an overwhelming smell of red wine and garlic. No, No, No

cece · 14/03/2010 12:34

I agree with your DH

catastrojb · 14/03/2010 12:34

uck. Sorry, not my taste....but if you like them, keep working on him. Give it a day or two and he won't notice them anyway!

tethersend · 14/03/2010 12:38

SugarTits, were our parents friends?

Olifin · 14/03/2010 12:39

Arrrgghgh hideous. My MIL would love them.

BUT....we're all different, if you like them, go for it

And to PP: a vengeance, not avengeance, I tell you! (pedant alert)

tethersend · 14/03/2010 12:43

LeQueen, Eggyallenpoe.

We need to talk.

A bathroom in a normal Victorian house is a construct- it can never be authentic, because there wasn't one in Victorian times.

No point trying to be authentic really, as if it's authenticity you're after, simply move the lav to the bottom of the garden and put a large tin bath in front of the (gas) fire. As an optional extra, smear the kids in coal dust before bathing each one in the same 3" of water your DH just used.

tethersend · 14/03/2010 12:44

Olifin, I think I safely deflected the pedant-beam on to myself there

LC200 · 14/03/2010 12:55

I love them. I would love to have things like that in my 2004 George Wimpey box, but that would look WRONG.

Kaloki · 14/03/2010 12:56

Ooh I love them! But then I love Art Nouveau (especially this picture) and Mucha pictures are gorgeous!

EggyAllenPoe · 14/03/2010 12:57

lequeen the tongue and groove in the family bathroom painted in F&B's Lulworth Blue...

how this made me giggle, so very Mumsnet...
now i have to google that to see what shade it is.

..ah, a decidedly tasteful shade of blue - not quite bright enough to be 'sky' coloured and dark enough to be victorian-esque without actually creating the kind of cluttered, looming interior of the period. I expected no less!

thumbwitch · 14/03/2010 13:02

I quite like them tbh. Not keen on the pink one, not my colour, would rather have the first one, but hey, it's your colour scheme.

Better than black and white chessboard tiles, anyway.

ifancyashandy · 14/03/2010 13:12

Heavens to Betsy - No! They are baaaaaad repro's. Surely better examples available?(if you must....)

Bonsoir · 14/03/2010 13:16

How can you think that Art Nouveau tiles would be right in a Victorian style bathroom?

Art Nouveau anything is very, very difficult to marry with anything that is not Art Nouveau.

thumbwitch · 14/03/2010 13:26

Just in case you missed it:

"That picture is called Printemps (1900) so ner ner. "

Fits into Victorian era, just.

MrsJamin · 14/03/2010 13:35

Picante, your taste is the same as our mothers! I can't believe you'd even consider them. We'd have to laugh at tolerate them even though you aren't thinking about moving in the near future. Please for the sake of my DN and DN, no!

Morloth · 14/03/2010 13:37

Those are seriously off.
