i keep reading stuff about men refusing to use them because they dont like them blah blah blah.

so go on, why are they so awful?

they smell a bit but surely you dont notice that during?
and for risk of sounding like a family planning clinic, they are the only way to prevent against STD's and the like.

i mean, if you spend more than half a second thinking about it when you're doing it, you're doing it wrong

of course, this doesn't include people who get allergic reactions to them. and they do them in all sorts of exciting shapes sizes and thickness now....

go on, why are condoms so unreasonable?

I've tried the female condom and used to carry one in my bag in case I needed to get a litre of water for my car's radiator when in the middle of nowhere, this was in the Holocene, before bottled water ya understand...

They really were the mose crinkly floppy things. and LOUD..

I remember putting one on my dingy student flat intercom phone (cold water tenement, up 5 flights) when having a party (very very dingy student dive). It was a hit there!

lovechoc · 09/03/2010 22:43

I've used the female condoms. They were fine, got a load from FPC but didn't go back to get more, ended up using condoms again.

DH doesn't like them (noticed no one else has brought this next issue up) because he can't ejaculate whilst wearing them so for him the sex doesn't have a climax, hence not that enjoyable IYKWIM.

However, I don't fancy having any more DC so we'll have to use condoms until we come up with a better solution. Pg with no2 just now so currently researching this issue..

That's interesting eurostar what you are saying about the female condoms going to be remarketed.

TheFallenMadonna · 09/03/2010 22:50

I like condoms. DH raises no objections.

Never had one split

SOH, if you can find someone to fit a cap for you, it is quite easy now to get the spermicide to go with them. It is called GYGEL and is made by marlborough ( I think). It is also possible to order gynoll II from here . There was a while, about tow years back when it was virtually impossible to get it because one company stopped supplying it in the UK and nobody else had a licence toproduce it. Since then, I've never had a problem getting it here. Th GP usually gives me five tubes at a time.

If you order it from the link, I have always found them to be extremely reliable in terms of service. orders are usually despatched same day and take between 7 - 1o days to arrive here. Just don't order too many at once or you get clobbered for import tax!

ShowOfHands · 10/03/2010 01:25

Thanks sayithowitis. DD is 2 so that makes sense, was asking for a cap after she was born. Problem is I live rurally, all local surgeries and clinics no longer allowed to fit them. Might ring around further afield because this coil is bloody ridiculous. I'm going to pull the damn thing out myself.

Clothilde · 10/03/2010 08:36

My DP can't climax in them either, which makes them a bit pointless.

MiraMoreVino · 10/03/2010 08:41

When I was single and had multiple partners (God, that makes me sound like a right slack 'un, but you know what I mean ), i had no problem with condomds. They were just a complete and utter necessity, like brushing my teeth. I wouldn't even consider sex without one, and if a man started whingeing about them, it really put me off him, to be honest.

I really loathe them, nowadays, though. I can't take the pill/implant/injection for medical reasons, and we aren't 100% sure we have finished having children, so a vasectomy/sterilisation is out, which means I ma faced with few choices, contraception wise. So condoms it is. But they are fussy, they take the spontaneity away from a good quickie and I find myself much more sensitie to them these days. I think I may even be allergic to them. is that possible? They make me sore and a bit thrushy.

lovechoc · 10/03/2010 09:20

clothide it's crap isn't it? we have arguments over it and then end up just bare-backing it.

lovechoc · 10/03/2010 09:21

does anyone know how you get past this problem? if so we would love to know!

ABetaDad · 10/03/2010 09:40

Agree with others about smell and spontaineity. However, from a blokes point of view it is the loss of sensation.

Lovecoc/clothide - it is worth doing a bit of research. Part of the problem is people just dash in the chemist and just grab whatever standard condom is there. However, we cannot use any other method of contraception (complicated) so I figured it was worth putting some thought into it.

These Pleasuremax Warming ones were a real revelation after 25 years. Also the RealFeel ones are new and said to be even better.

They can be bought online as not all chemists have them. I notice they are even doing England Supporter ones for the World Cup.

ShowOfHands "Contraception is a pain in the neck."

Yeah, but kids are more of a pain in the neck and the arse and the pocket...

Pofacedagain · 10/03/2010 10:30

they look excellent abetadad, thanks for the info.

Malificence · 10/03/2010 10:57

From what I've read, it's more likely to be the spermicide that causes irritation, unless you have a known latex allergy of course.
Spermicide is apparently partially responsible for the rise in STDs because the resulting irritation makes it easier for infection to be spread!
So go for non spermicidal condoms if you are getting sore.

Has anyone tried the Boots ultra sensitive ones?

Morloth · 10/03/2010 10:59

Tried them all Mal and they all give me the itchies.

ShowOfHands · 10/03/2010 13:07

Oh I disagree. I'd have an army of children, not a pain in the neck at all, but another labour would tip me over the edge (have ptsd from the last time) and much as I'd love to have another baby- I planned a big family -the idea induces terrible panic attacks.

Of course the fact that I can't find a contraception that a works and b suits me is an utter pain.

lovechoc · 10/03/2010 15:18

thanks ABetaDad, have written these down so we can look at the sites later.

Morloth · 10/03/2010 15:20

I like the idea of a big family with 6 plus kids (like the one I grew up in), but I am pretty sure I wouldn't like the reality of it with me as the Mum!

Contraception is annoying though.

lovechoc · 10/03/2010 15:22

"Contraception is annoying though."

totally agree with you, morloth
