for making a quip about seeing me in there every day and beginning to think i was a member of staff and how i must have loads of spare time on my hands.

I'm not in there every day. i pop in when passing for essentials, the occasional paper or wine on my way somewhere else, usually in a tearing hurry, perhaps 4 times a week maximum.

I don't work there. the uniform wouldn't suit me.

Spare time? what's that. I work very long hours, i study, i work extras to pay the sodding bills.

Daft cow.

Love Waitrose. DS spilled some juice, and not only did they clean it up, but gave him another one

nickytwotimes · 05/03/2010 10:13

I've never been in a Waitrose.

I don't think there are any on Scotland at all, are there?

gramercy · 05/03/2010 10:17

I was in Waitrose a while back and suddenly a 60-something man started shouting "HOW DARE YOU?!!!! HOW DARE YOU COMMENT ON MY SHOPPING!!!!!" at the next check-out lady. He was purple in the face and demanded to see her supervisor.

When he'd gone my check-out lady asked her neighbour what she'd said. She was in tears by this point. Apparently she'd said that a pudding he'd chosen looked very yummy. And for that he'd gone apeshit.

Just shows how dangerous it is making polite conversation.

Rocky12 · 05/03/2010 10:27

With regard to the OP. I wouldnt bother studying for anything. With your sort of attitude NO ONE will want to work with you.

MarineIguana · 05/03/2010 10:35

Where I live, Waitrose and Asda are the friendliest and you always get a chat. Agree if you don't like it, go to Tesco!

I'm always in Waitrose too as it's handy - the other day I got a large online shop delivered, then popped into WR later the same day to pick up some bits I'd forgotten, and bumped into the same woman who'd delivered my stuff. If she'd remarked that I might like to work there/move in with a sleeping bag I'd have laughed, she'd have had a point.

MarineIguana · 05/03/2010 10:37

Incidentally I nearly commented on someone's shopping the other day. It was the healthiest trolleyful I've ever seen - like a display of grains, seeds and fruit & veg arranged by Gillian McKeith. "Wow what a load of fantastically healthy stuff" I nearly blurted, as it sat next to my chocolate and steak. But she looked a bit scary.

OrmRenewed · 05/03/2010 10:40

eccentrica! I never thought you were a rude and angry person.

Poor Waitrose lady trying to be friendly. I'm quite a sad old cow but it cheers me up when people talk to me.

But am glad you didn't actually slap her.

Whoamireally · 05/03/2010 10:56

I used to work in Waitrose on a checkout as a teenager and I've never forgotten it - the selection process was rigorous and I will always remember that you were not allowed out on the shop floor unless the checkout manager had checked you over to make sure you were 'properly' dressed, that your lovely brown dress was straight and that you were wearing your fetching cravat

That is why I shop at Waitrose, despite the cost - because I always felt proud to work there. If that doesn't sound too crass?

OrmRenewed · 05/03/2010 11:02

Whois - we don't have Waitrose round here. Too common and rural I think But I work with all the retailers and I always like speaking to Waitrose people - they are always friendly and chatty.

porcamiseria · 05/03/2010 11:03

eccentrica

simple, go to iceland or asda where they will ignore you

talk about an overeaction!!!!

runnybottom · 05/03/2010 11:09

pretend you don't speak english?

EccentricaGallumbits · 05/03/2010 11:54

Dear god! If you actually read what I have written it is blatently obvious I didn't actually assault anyone and did indeed only think some rather uncharitable thoughts, then had a small rant about it in a safe place.
I know I was being unreasonable and overreacting following a somewhat tense and stressful day. I said I knew I was being unreasonable.
And I am not normally a rude, unpleasant, violent bitch and some people do like working with me. So there.

EccentricaGallumbits · 05/03/2010 11:55

And Feck me. 5 pages and 115 reactions to a small rant. and the moon's not even full.

OP posts:
OrmRenewed · 05/03/2010 16:21

But.... you did ask if you were being unreasonable.

MorrisZapp · 05/03/2010 16:30

Oh get a grip and stop seeking attention. You knew fine well you'd get a big response to your slapping in Waitrose thread.

And YABU

mayorquimby · 05/03/2010 16:48

so you were just a rude and unpleasant bitch on this occassion?

runnybottom · 05/03/2010 16:49

to who, mayor? she wasn't rude or unpleasent in the shop at all.....

major major over-reaction peeps.

EccentricaGallumbits · 05/03/2010 16:51

oh bog off. the rant is over. finished. ended.

OP posts:
MadameDefarge · 05/03/2010 16:51

steady on mayor, no need for that...

EccentricaGallumbits · 05/03/2010 16:52

I d have a new one about NHS apointments if you'd care to insult me there..

OP posts:
mayorquimby · 05/03/2010 16:56

i was just referring to her assertation that "I am not normally a rude, unpleasant, violent bitch" so if she's not normally one it means she's admitting to sometimes being one. I was wondering if this was one of those such occassions.

catinthehat2 · 05/03/2010 16:59

MQ -
Eccentrica was not physically abusive to the checkout lady. She committed a ThoughtCrime. THere is a bit of a difference you know, even under the current legal system in the UK

LEMisdiscombobulated · 05/03/2010 17:31

Yawn 2/10
