Engagement Presents?

Would you think i was being unreasonable not to give my dsis a present for her engagement (she's having a party Tonight), Ive got her a card. When i got engaged we didn't get any cards or presents but we didn't have a party. What should i do? my dh says just give them a card but i dont want to seem rude or upset her if i dont put anything inside it.

We didn't have an engagement party.

Friends bought us a bottle of bubbly, and my future PILs bought us some saucepans (it least partly because future DH was about to be living out at uni and would need some). Nobody else bought us anything. I wasn't expecting the bubbly and the saucepans!

I've never given anyone an engagement present.

This thread is four and half years old...

So it is.

No zombie warning :(

Maybe OP should come back and tell us whether the couple ever got married.

It's weird that others have had the same experience with engagement parties. I went to a really lavish one where the bride-to-be wore a knee length white dress and it felt like a wedding warm up. Two months later they broke up. Maybe the stress of planning then gives couples cold feet?
