To dislike baby pics instead of your own pics on facebook

I know your baby is cute. I know you have a baby. I know your family is wonderfully happy. But you are still you - why, when you are asked for a picture of yourself for your profile pic, do you put one of your baby? One of you with the baby is bad enough - one of just the baby is the worst though. And I bet it's the same people who moan about no longer having their own identity - er, I wonder why! I like pics of your baby, I am happy for them to go in your photo area, but as your profile pic - no!

Am I being unreasonable? Probably...

I have one of my son as my profile pic as I Hate Hate pictures of me. It was either that or a picture of some random landscape...

But I can understand where you are coming from.

Btw - I haven't lost my identity

yellowflowers · 26/02/2010 11:58

Haha antdamm - that seems fair enough, and I am in foul mood today! Just I went on facebook and about half my friends had baby pics as their profile.

Lots of my friends have avatars, pictures of famous people, pictures of cars etc. Not many of them have photos of themselves and when they do, they are often with others or taken from weird angles. YABU. Doesn't matter!

mangoandlime · 26/02/2010 12:06

YANBU..Though it doesn't matter, I know what you mean. They all look the same to me, babies in profile pics, that is!

SpicedGerkin · 26/02/2010 12:08

Why do you care?

plonker · 26/02/2010 12:10

I have my children as my profile picture.

They're far better looking than I am.

Not sure why anyone else would give a damn tbh though ...

Bleatblurt · 26/02/2010 12:11

I don't want my fat head staring back at me when I use FB.

TinaSparkles · 26/02/2010 12:11

I get what you mean about a baby instead of you
but really, why on earth is it bad enough to have a picture of you and your DC?

Of course YABU!

SpicedGerkin · 26/02/2010 12:14

Not long ago i had a pic of me as a baby on there, is that acceptable in the world of monitoring other peoples FB accounts?

OP - Why don't you mail said friends and tell them that verbatim. Then do tell us what sort of a response you got.

EmiAbi · 26/02/2010 12:20

I don't particularly mind it other than when I'm searching for friends, for example school mates that may have changed their names or have a name that is shared with a lot of others, and need their pictures to identify them.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 26/02/2010 12:29

I have a photo of DS on mine. I despise the way I look in photos, whereas he is a cute little blonde mop (in fact, most of what you can see in the pic is just his hair). I tried having a pic of myself for a bit, but it got me down every time I saw it.

I never complain about losing my identity, either, so you got me all wrong

I don't use FB much but figure it's not up to anyone else to decide whether my profile pic is OK with them! There are worse things on FB by far than a few baby pics in profiles ... like effing Farmville, for a start.

hatwoman · 26/02/2010 12:32

I know where you're coming from. but I tend to have pictures of the gorgeous countryside (wild and rocky, not green and fieldy) where I live. mainly because I have reletively recently moved here and lots of the southerners I left behind have no clue what it's like nor why I moved...

SpicedGerkin · 26/02/2010 12:37

Don't diss the farm [mad]

SpicedGerkin · 26/02/2010 12:37

or

BariatricObama · 26/02/2010 12:39

cats are worse

PuzzleRocks · 26/02/2010 12:41

No no, this is

chopstheduck · 26/02/2010 12:42

I find it a bit odd. Especially playing scrabble with random strangers and I can see their kids rather than them. I quite like to see who I am talking to/playing against. I don't care if they are fat or ugly.

I have a pic of myself, I don't particularly like photos of myself, but it was taken in Nice during a weekend break with my dh and holds nice memories. Sod what I actually look like!

staranise · 26/02/2010 12:43

I have virtually no photos of me on my computer and 1000s of the children. I don't like pictures of me.

I would like one of those pictures of a famous person who supposedly looks like me but nobody has ever said I look like anybody. Except 20 years ago, some weirdo on a bus said I look like Timothy Dalton's daughter. Really.

foreverastudent · 26/02/2010 13:41

Just as bad is those pictures of people and their partners.

2shoes · 26/02/2010 13:43

yabu
diferent strokes.
I have on of me as a little girl at the moment

MollieO · 26/02/2010 13:46

I have a picture of ds as my profile picture on fb. Simple reason is I don't have any pictures of me. Single parent so no one to take a photo of me although now ds is getting older that may change.

Nymphadora · 26/02/2010 13:51

I have pics of me but not recognisable ones, eitehr from a distance or psrts of my body

Floopy21 · 26/02/2010 14:44

YABU. FFS it's the internet, didn't you know you can be whoever you like?! EmiAbi's comment is interesting, that's exactly WHY people don't have their pic up, so randoms can't find them!
